The Amazing Race – Recap – Episode 7.5

Archive

Well, Wednesday gave us a Recap episode of The Amazing Race. What’s that you say, you didn’t see it because you were watching Lost? Well, have no fear, because I’ve got the info on all the stuff you missed.

Not long ago, from Long Beach, California, eleven teams embarked on the journey of a lifetime – a race around the world for one million dollars.

So far, teams have traveled over 13,000 miles, to Peru, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Botswana. This Very Special Episode will recap the previous seven legs, AND it will give us “never before seen footage”, such as the brothers rummaging through their stuff for their first clue.

Credits

Long Beach. New footage where Lynn says he accidentally shoved Amber, shrugs, and then says “Survive that”, thus showing that his asshole streak started from the beginning. Rob couldn’t believe they left last.

At the airport, Ryan and Chuck and Ron and Kelly discussed politics (apparently they’re all Republicans), while Rob and Amber discussed strategy – love me, have fun with me, and don’t be last.

To Ancon, where Debbie and Bianca and Susan and Patrick got an early lead, and were joined by Romber, to their chagrin. “They don’t need to win again”.

Before heading to Peru, some teams ran out of money, and we see Uchenna and Joyce and the Barbies begging for money. Uchenna does backflips, and the Barbies appear to flirt and show off their tattoos (on their lower backs). Gretchen gets money too, despite not being in her 20’s, blonde, and showing cleavage.

Cusco, the zip line and Detour. Lynn and Alex tried Llamas, and they even hated on the llamas, saying they got a gay one, because it was bitchy. The Dudes bonded with the locals on the delivery truck back into town. Romber’s truck broke down on the way in, but Rob fixed it quickly. And at the Pit Stop, Debbie and Bianca finished first, and Ron and Kelly just beat out Ryan and Chuck to avoid being Philiminated.

Leg 2, teams headed to Arequipa, Peru. Kelly took pictures, and Amber gave Rob a crash course in Spanish. We see Rob getting help from several people, but NOT the security guard who Lynn and Alex ask later. So Rob, it seems, was in fact not lying. Ray notes that it was like a Romber hate fest, which Rob obviously didn’t like. Ray says that Rob WAS lying though, so I’m still confused about that one.

Rob: “This ain’t Survivor, okay? You can’t get voted off. Just don’t be last.” Well said.

Rob thinks it’s funny, because everyone is thinking that it’s the fastest bus, when it might not be – they’re just kinda sorta trusting his word on that.

Before the teams boarded the bus, Patrick managed to whack his head and get a cut, Forrest Griffin-like, but without as much blood. We see the Dudes and the Barbies flirting, and then we see a lady selling what I assume to be dried or smoked lamb. Uchenna thinks it’s the best lamb he’s ever had. Rob literally licks the bone clean, and Lynn is disgusted.

In Arequipa, teams shined shoes, and headed to Santiago, Chile, via Lima, Peru. The Dudes and the Barbies shared a room during the layover. Megan calls the brothers “perfect gentlemen” and says that “they didn’t try anything”. And then smirks.

In Santiago, teams Shopped or Schlepped. Rob and Amber carried all the books, Ron and Kelly didn’t, and Romber finished first. And in another footrace, the Dudes beat out the Barbies.

Leg 3
Teams left Chile for Argentina, and Rob took Debbie and Bianca’s taxi. The two teams then made a truce. Teams enjoyed a wonderful mountain view. Except Debbie and Bianca, who missed the turn and got a wonderful ocean view.

Lynn and Alex couldn’t believe that Argentina had a Wal-Mart. Ignorant morons. We review the Bikes/Rafts Detour, and then the eating Roadblock. We see the non-Roadblock teammates try to support their partners. We review Rob’s penalty strategy (of quitting) and getting Ray and Deana and Meredith and Gretchen to quit as well.

Ron and Kelly are upset at Romber quitting, Lynn and Alex finish first, and Debbie is WAY too happy about eating 4lbs of meat. Debbie finishes pretty fast, but her teams still gets Philiminated.

Leg 4. Gaucho Roadblock. Deana has a bit of trouble making her horse even move. And achieves Flo-levels of complaints. And Patrick is, as usual, pissy.

At the airport, teams are happy that Romber aren’t on the early plane. Until, of course, they get on. Rob admits that they’ve been lucky.

Recap of the Shipwreck/Island Detour. G mentions that he and B are trying to have a lot of fun.

Meredith and Gretchen didn’t have enough money to pay the cab fare, but they manage to pull through and finish seventh. Susan and Mr. Positive are Philiminated.

Leg 5. Teams leave for Johannesburg, RSA. Rob thinks he should Yield “Frick and Frack” because he thinks that they be the next strongest team. I dunno about that, but I am so using that name from now on. In South Africa, teams have problems with their cars, like having the steering column (and turn signal) on the wrong side. Fun and dangerous driving ensue.

Review of the Tunnels/Tribes Detour, and Gretchen’s even more Forrest Griffin-like gash. “No close-ups”. Review of the Fast Forward, with Ray and Deana getting it and arriving at the Pit Stop first.

Shopping Roadblock. Joyce is touched by the children. Meredith and Gretchen finish last, but it’s non-elimination, and Phil robs them of everything but their passports and the clothes on their back.

Leg 6. Teams feed some lionesses. Rob messes around with Meredith and Gretchen since they don’t know where they’re going. In Botswana, Romber find a magazine with them on the cover. “We fly everywhere in first class.” “Not anymore. Not on this trip.” Heh.

Bushman Roadblock, which is apparently more difficult than it looks. Driving across the rough terrain. We see the Dudes accident again. And once again, we see Lynn and Alex stop (although in the Insider we saw Alex insist that they keep going) and get mad at Romber for not stopping.

Food/Water Detour. Ron and Kelly finish first. We again see the footrace between Ray and Deana and the Dudes. Ultimately, Ray and Deana are Philiminated. “We deserve to be.”

Leg 7. The teams navigate through the heart of Botswana. We see the Carry/Milk Detour. The goats don’t like Lynn and Alex. Can’t blame them.

River/log Roadblock. Brian and Greg’s bumper fell off, and they make up a story about a lion.

Romber finish first for the third time. B & G get Philiminated in style.

After checking in, teams are treated to some Botswanan entertainment.

Amber feels like she and Rob are very lucky people. Ron thinks that it’s an amazing part of his life that he’s glad to have seen. Lynn thinks that he and Alex have been drawn closer together by the Race. Meredith feels that Gretchen has touched the hearts and souls of people she’s met along the way. And Uchenna feels touched by being in the land of his ancestors. Well, not exactly (since his family is from Nigeria) but you get the idea.

Hope you enjoyed the recap, and I’ll see you on Tuesday!!
