Housewives Unstoppable in Sunday's Ratings


ABC’s evening started slowly, but two of its top rated shows pulled in enough viewers to win Sunday night’s ratings.

Overall, ABC averaged a 9.9 rating/16 share, ahead of CBS’ 8.8/14. NBC was a distant third with a 5.7/9, with FOX coming in fourth with a pathetic 2.8/5. The WB was fifth with a 1.8/3.

CBS started the night off in front with a big 12.7/23 for “60 Minutes.” CBS received a big boost from late coverage of The Masters as Tiger Woods won in a playoff. NBC’s “Dateline” was second with a 4.9/9, followed by ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” FOX was well behind with the 2.8/5 managed by “King of the Hill” and “Malcolm in the Middle.” The WB’s rerunof “Charmed” was fifth.

At 8 p.m., CBS stayed in first with the 10.2/16 for “Cold Case.” ABC made the move to second with the 7.7/12 for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” NBC’s “The Contender” was a distant third with a 3.8/6, narrowly beating FOX’s “The Simpsons” and “Arrested Development.” The WB’s “Charmed” had a 2.5/4 for fifth.

ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a huge 15.7/23 for “Desperate Housewives.” NBC was not a close second with the 6.9/10 for “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” The first hour of CBS’ film “High Crimes” was third with a 6.7/10. FOX only scored a 1.9/3 for an encore of “24,” which still topped The WB’s “Steve Harvey’s Big Time Challenge.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” held onto much of the “Housewives” audience for an 11.9/19 and a big win 10 p.m. win. NBC’s “Crossing Jordan” was second with a 7.1/11. CBS was third with its movie.
