'Cops' Not Going Anywhere

“Cops,” one of the original reality shows on television, will be returning next year for its 18’th season on FOX.

FOX is also preparing for the 600’th episode special, featuring some the shows most memorable arrests and takedowns, on Saturday, April 30.

With the renewal for next season, “Cops,” which premiered March 11, 1989, cements its place as the longest continuously series in the history of FOX. Its Saturday-night companion, “America’s Most Wanted,” debuted a year earlier, but it was briefly cancelled in 1996 before the network changed its mind and brought it back after public pressure.

FOX’s back-to-back episodes of “Cops” — usually one new episode and one repeat — averages about 7 million viewers per week on Saturday nights, where it’s aired for virtually its entire run. The show leads its time period in the ad-friendly demographics of adults 18-34 and adults 18-49.
