Emmy winner Alfre Woodard is moving to Wisteria Lane for a regular part on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” beginning next season.

Specific details on Woodard’s role are not clear, but The New York Post describes the new character as a religious single mother who has to leave her old neighborhood because of her son. Woodard’s character will be introduced at the start of the 2005-06 season.

Although she’s rarely been a network television regular, Woodard has become one of the its most decorated actresses. Since 1984, she has earned 12 Emmy nominations, winning four trophies, mostly recently in 2003 for a guest spot on “The Practice.”
