NBC Wins Wednesday's Rating Battle

ABC is lost without ‘Lost’ in the Wednesday night rating fight. FOX and NBC did well, with NBC getting a bonus from the premiere of ‘Revelations.’

NBC barely won the night among households. It averaged a 9.6 rating/15 share to FOX’s 9.5/15. But FOX led in total viewers, 15.6 million to 14.3 million. CBS ended up in third place at 5.6/9, followed closely by ABC at 5.5/9. UPN came in fifth at 2.6/4 and with The WB trailing the pack at 1.7/3.

Fox dominated the race among adults 18-49 with a 6.9 rating. NBC was second at 4.6, and ABC, 3.0, finished third. CBS averaged 2.5, UPN 1.7 and The WB 1.1.

NBC started off strong by winning the 8 p.m. hour, drawing a 7.4/12 with a “Dateline” special on “The Da Vinci Code.” ABC’s rerun of “Lost” was second at 6.9/11. CBS placed third with “60 Minutes,” although “The Simple Life 3,” 3.9/7, and the premiere of Pamela Anderson’s comedy “Stacked,” 5.0/8, averaged more total viewers for FOX. UPN’s “America’s Next Top Model,” 3.6/6, put the network in fifth, ahead of The WB’s “Smallville.”

Fox’s hour-long “American Idol” results show easily won the 9 p.m. averaging 14.5/22. On NBC “Revelations” debuted to a 9.9/15, which is well above the network’s season average for the time period. ABC dipped to third with “Alias,” 5.2/8. CBS was right behind with “The King of Queens,” 5.2/8, and “Yes, Dear,” 5.0/7. “Kevin Hill” did well for UPN by keeping it in fifth ahead of the return of “Jack & Bobby” on The WB.

NBC took back control 10 p.m. with “Law & Order,” 11.5/19. “CSI: NY” averaged 7.1/12 for CBS, while “Eyes” slid to 4.3/7 on ABC.
