ABC's Strong Sunday Nights Continue

CBS’ TV movie ‘Locusts’ made a good showing but it was not enough to overtake the dominant ABC.

Viewers were drawn to ‘Desperate Housewives’ despite the fact it was just a clip show.

The overall ratings have ABC out in front with an average a 10.1/16 for the night. Second place CBS’ managed 8.7/14. NBC trailed badly in third with a 4.3/7. They did manage to beat Fox who only ended up with 3.0/5. The WB trailed with a 1.8/3.

ABC easily won among adults 18-49, with a 6.9 rating in the key demographic. CBS stayed in second place with a 3.5 rating, followed again by NBC’s 2.7 rating and the 2.1 rating for FOX. The WB finish fifth with a 1.2 rating.

At 7PM CBS started strong with “60 Minutes” which had an 8.1/15 for the hour. ABC started in second with “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” NBC’s
“Dateline” ended up in third with a 4.1/7 but still beat FOX’s “The Simpsons” and “Malcolm in the Middle,” which had a 3.5/6 average between them. The WB’s “Charmed” was fifth.

CBS stayed in top spot at 8PN thanks to the 10.5/17 rating for “Cold Case.” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” bumped ABC up with a 9.3/15 for the hour. NBC fell out of the fight for top spot with a third place finish for ‘The Contender’ which got 3.5/6. FOX’s “American Top 40” special barely finished out of the cellar byt just beating The WB’s “Charmed.”

ABC took charge at in the 9 p.m. hour with a 14.6/22 for the “Desperate Housewives: Dirty Laundry” special. The first hour of CBS’
“Locusts!” had an 8.1/12, which was good for second. NBC took third with a second hour of “The Contender.” Over on FOX, the Ryan Seacrest-hosted musical event had a 2.3/4 in its second hour, with The WB’s “Steve Harvey’s Big Time Challenge” finishing fifth.

The new medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” continued its strong start, doing an 11.4/18 to close the night. CBS’ movie was second, beating the 5.8/9 for on NBC’s “Crossing Jordan.”
