The Amazing Race – Recap – Episode 9

For those interested, Frick and Frack show both the good and the annoying side of themselves in The Race Insider. They really need to get over themselves and their fixation on Rob and Amber, y’know?

Last week, teams traveled within India from Lucknow to Jodhpur, in the second half of a rather long leg. Animals were the theme of the day, with teams pushing elephants and riding camels. Well, except Uchenna and Joyce, who went for the Fast Forward. Joyce had her head shaved, and ended up looking better than before. Four teams are left, is anybody going home tonight?

Speaking of which, I’m hoping Scott goes home. Seriously, that was another bad performance from that guy”¦

We’re in Jodhpur, India, the eighth Pit Stop in a race around the world. Teams have a mandatory rest period, don’t know what’s in store, yadda yadda yadda.

Uchenna and Joyce, who were the first team to arrive at 11:24am, depart first at 11:24pm. They must now fly 4000 miles to Istanbul, Turkey, and an island called Kis Kulesi. Joyce feels stronger now that she’s shed her hair. They decide to find a travel agent,

Ron/Kelly and Rob/Amber, 11:26pm. Sanjoo’s still with them, and helps the teams decide what to do. They decide to head to a travel agent. Rob realizes that 2 teams aren’t always better than one.

Meredith and Gretchen, 11:33pm. They tell us they have $82 for this leg.

Uchenna and Joyce go to a hotel to find flights.

Ron and Kelly and Romber buy tickets through Dehli that arrives in Istanbul at 8:45am the day after. They try to find a hotel.

Meredith and Gretchen get the same tickets. They run into Uchenna and Joyce, and wait for the couple as they buy the tickets. Looks like we’ve got two mini-alliances going.

The next morning, all four teams head to the airport, and find out they’re all on the same flight. Rob asks Gretchen about an “earlier flight to Turkey”, playing with her mind a bit. But will that backfire?

Uchenna borrows a cellphone and manages to secure a flight to Dubai, to get a connecting flight which lands at 6:20am.

In Delhi, all teams head out to find travel agents and earlier flights to Istanbul. Ron and Kelly talk about commitments.

Romber go to a travel agent, who tells them that there isn’t a better flight. Rob decides to look elsewhere.

Uchenna and Joyce and Meredith and Gretchen get their Dubai tickets.

Romber arrive at Turkish Airlines, as well as Ron and Kelly. Rob can’t get the info he wants, so it looks like those two teams may be SOL.

Uchenna and Joyce and Meredith and Gretchen board their connecting flight. Meanwhile, Romber and Ron and Kelly are wondering what’s going on there. Rob thinks Uchenna and Joyce are just coasting, and makes fun of them for joining up with Meredith and Gretchen. We’ll see, I guess, after the

We’re back, and Rob is confident that he and Amber and Ron and Kelly will be in the lead.

6:20am, Uchenna and Joyce and Meredith and Gretchen take the train into the city. They get on the ferry.

8:24am, the second flight arrives, and Romber get onto a train ahead of Ron and Kelly.

The ferry arrives, and Uchenna and Joyce get to the cluebox first. The teams must search an island for a “Travelocity gnome”. The team that finds the gnome with an airplane will win a special prize at the Pit Stop. After that, they must travel to Galata Kulesi tower. Both teams find gnomes rather easily, and head out to the tower.

Rob and Amber enjoy the sights. Ron and Kelly know they’re behind.

Uchenna and Joyce reach the cluebox – it’s a Detour – Columns or Kilos
In Columns, teams travel 2 miles to an ancient well, and use a grid to find four specific columns. After which, they pull up a lockbox and open it up with the numbers they find.

In Kilos, teams must weigh enough people to total 2500 kilograms.

Uchenna and Joyce decide on Kilos.

Romber get on the ferry. Uchenna and Joyce are blowing through the detour.

Meredith and Gretchen reach the tower and go up to the top. As usual, they seem a bit top.

Uchenna and Joyce finish the task. They receive their clue, which tells them to head to Rumeli Hisari, a European fortress. Meanwhile, Meredith and Gretchen head up again and see the cluebox down below. They decide to do Kilos.

Romber reach Kiz Kelusi, and Rob finds out that the other two teams have already come and gone. Rob is shocked. Well, he was asking for it.

Ad Break.

Rob channels Danny: “Unbelievable”. They get the gnome and head to the tower.

Ron and Kelly arrive at the lighthouse. Romber head out. Ron and Kelly find their gnome and head back out. Ron thinks they might be eliminated. They take a taxi.

Uchenna and Joyce reach the cluebox. It’s a Roadblock – Storm the Fortress – Climb a wall, find a key, rappel down and unlock a lockbox. Uchenna takes it. He climbs the ladder easily, but can’t find the key.

Meredith and Gretchen reach the detour, and of course can’t find the scale man. Uchenna finds the key. He rappels down and finds the clue – head to the Pit Stop within the fortress at Rumeli Hasari Overlock. They arrive as team number one, but their gnome doesn’t have the prize.

Meredith and Gretchen finally find scale guy, and start weighing people. The ferry arrives, and Romber get a taxi. Ron and Kelly are still worrying about being last.

Meredith and Gretchen finish the Detour, and head out. Romber reach the cluebox, and decide on Kilos.

Ron and Kelly reach the tower, and head up. They see it down below. Romber get directions to walk to the Detour. Ron and Kelly get to the cluebox, and decide on Columns. They take a taxi.

Romber reach the square, and start weighing. Ron and Kelly reach the Columns, and seem to be doing well with the column searching.

Meredith and Gretchen reach the Roadblock, and Gretchen takes it. Romber finish weighing, and get their clue.

Ron and Kelly pull up the lockbox, and start trying the different combinations. 6301 is the magic number. They head out to the Roadblock.

At the Roadblock, Gretchen has hardly gotten anywhere. “I’m in trouble. Big trouble.” We’ll see how big, after the

Back at the fortress, and Meredith “guesses” that Gretchen is having a hard time. She’s doing okay now, and reaches the top!!

Theo other two teams are heading to the Roadblock. Meanwhile Gretchen finds the key and rappels down. They get to the Pit Stop as team number two, and their gnome doesn’t have the plane.

Romber arrive first, and Rob takes it. He gets up there easily. Ron and Kelly arrive, and Ron takes it. Rob finds the key, as Ron gets to the top. Rob rappels down, and reaches the bottom as Ron finds the key. Rob opens the clue, and gets to the Pit Stop as team number three!! Their gnome does not have the plane, so we know Ron and Kelly win that trip. Rob knows they made a stupid mistake, and they can’t do it again.

Ron finishes the Roadblock. They are the last team to arrive, but it’s a non-elimination leg, and Phil robs them of all their possessions aside from the clothes on their back and their passports. Luckily, they were wearing touques and jackets throughout the leg, so it’s not as bad for them as it was for Meredith and Gretchen. Their gnome, of course, has the plane, and they win $20,000 to spend at Travelocity, AND get to spend the rest period in a first class suite. Nice consolation for coming in last, I gotta say.

Next time, on The Amazing Race. Uchenna helps Meredith and Gretchen on a Detour, and a Roadblock drives teams crazy.
