NEW YORK (Billboard) – Inspired by the success of her 2004 tour, her first in over a decade, veteran singer/songwriter Carole King plans to return to the road this summer for six weeks of appearances across North America.
The “Living Room Tour 2005” will visit theaters and amphitheaters that have been scaled down for more intimate performances.
The outing will begin with a July 3-4 stand in Rama, Ontario and run through Aug. 14 in Santa Rosa, Calif. The itinerary is highlighted by a July 13 show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, the Brooklyn native’s first concert in the Big Apple in more than 12 years.
The 1990 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee conceived of the tour while playing one-off shows in private homes and small venues in recent years, many of them benefits for political and environmental causes.
“I realized I could do the same thing in a large venue and make it feel like a living room,” King says. “The idea of bringing the show back to basics really appealed to me.”
The upcoming shows will largely feature King, 63, performing solo on piano, but she will be backed on some selections by guitarists Gary Burr and Rudy Guess.
Fans should expect to hear such classics as the No. 1 Billboard pop hit “It’s Too Late” and “I Feel the Earth Move,” as well as hits penned for other artists, including “One Fine Day” and “Will You Love Me Tomorrow.”
King has not released a new album since 2001’s “Love Makes the World,” but her 1971 solo debut, “Tapestry,” has achieved diamond status from the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 10 million copies.
The set spent an astounding 513 weeks on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog chart and sold more than 154,000 copies in the United States in 2004 alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
