Hello all and welcome to the Marvel handbook. I’m not sure who the editor on duty is this week. I think Daron keeps switching it up just to screw with me. Either way I guess we’ll find out together.
I would never keep changing editors to screw with you, Jim…would I? Maybe I would. *ponders*
Nice to see I have competent editor for a change. I’m kidding of course.
Wow, I’m not sure if that was a shot at me or Tim…seeing as I’m the one here. Well since I AM the one here, I guess we’ll assume it was meant for, Tim. Damn Tim, you gonna take that $h!t?
Let’s start this up.
Oh, right, the column…

I remember Archangel v Wolvie. That was great. I also liked the few issues of three-ways between Warren, Sabretooth and Caliban in X-Factor. Archangel is a good fighter.
Longshot ought to be on the list too; he could handle himself in a fight.
Yep and I agree I missed Warren. Hellm I should’ve just put my top ten.
Holy Crap! Someone agreed with me, and about Archangel as well, the end most definitely is nigh… – Daron
And I think Cyclops should be on the list. Remember that he beat up Wolverine, Storm and Nightcrawler all at once after getting beaten by Proteus. He did use his powers briefly, and they were rattled, but it counts.
Sorry I just refuse to put Cyc on any list of fighters. I think he’s the biggest pansy and sissy on the X-Men team. Total suck up.
Huh, did you just channel me for that little diatribe, that so didn’t sound like you, Jim. And I have to say I’m surprised, I too like the Cyke, don’t know if he’d make my list of fighters, but I’m a big fan of both of the Summers brothers (though I have to admit I like Alex quite a bit more…) – Daron

Hey Jim,
Movie zone reviewer Ryan here, Apocalypse wasn’t an External, this was made clear a few times but the first time it was mentioned was when all the Externals were dying. (along with it coming out that Sam wasn’t one either) Also during the 12 its shows by the fact he needs to put his “energies” into a new body every once in a while.
The only External that’s still alive for sure is Selene, I think Candra might be but I’m not 100% on that one.
Yeah he was believed to be one and I forgot that. He’s still immortal in a way. Oh and remember Selene needs energy as well to stay young and the like. But she is still an External.

I have a question… not sure you can answer it though. Where does wolverine’s claws go after he retracts them? if normal anatomy applies, he wouldn’t be able to bend his wrist once his claws retract. I’m under the assumption they only retract down to his carpals and metacarpals, though it would be viable if his claws went all the way down to his ulna or radius. thanks!
Who ever said Wolverine had normal anatomy? Well technically he dosen’t since he has the claws to begin with. He was born with bone claws remember. But here’s a theory:
Wolverine’s claws retract beyond his wrists. When he unleashes his claws, his wrists automatically straighten out. They’d be held in place by existing tissue in the hand, and the muscles attached to the base of the claws that control sheathing and unsheathing the claws.
Where’d you pull that one out from, Jim? For those of you English speakers who don’t have degrees in anatomy, it basically comes down to this… When Wolvie retracts his claws, the are held in a casing above his forearms. This in no way detracts from the flexibility of his wrist. The question really should be, how does he bend his wrist when his claws are extended? – Daron
Skyywolf
I was a big fan of the Surfer back in the day, thanks for the recap.
But I seem to remember a story that may or not be in continuity that you did not mention, wonder if you could shed some light on the Surfer and when he had Quasar’s Quantum Bands. I think it was in another series, perhaps Guardians of the Galaxy? Had someting to do with an alive Galactus.
Actually you are talking about the future Surfer also known as the KEEPER. Cosmic entity Eon has chosen the Surfer to wear the quantum bands and become the Protector of The Universe!
Oh and also is Galactus really dead?
Actually Galactus came back and now is in a human like form in another universe.
And was there any explain ation of what you had said about after “Galactus'” death as in what was the bigger threat to come?
I believe the threat he was talking about was Abraxus who appeared in Fantastic Four not to long after Galactus “died”
I’m not sure I know what Jim is referring to, but the regular 616 Universe Galactus is very much alive and eating planets again. He just appeared in FF a couple months back. I can’t remember exactly how he came back, but worry not, the big guy IS alive and kicking. – Daron

Tyrant:
Identity/Class: Extraterrestrial artificial creation

Tyrant is extremely powerful, able to challenge even Galactus. He draws on power from the biospheres of planets in the universe; every planet that Galactus consumes leaves one less planet available to Tyrant

Red Shift:

Occupation: Herald of Galactus
First Appearance: Galactus: The Devourer #1 (September 1999)

Stardust:
All I can tell you right now he’s the Herald facing Beta Ray Bill in his current Limited series.
i stopped reading somewhere in the morg saga (thanks for putting the name with the face). also i saw some stuff where johnny storm was to become a herald of the big G or something. what was that about? always a pleasue.
Actually he was Herald of Galactus in Storm Rising: FF # 519-522 and had ampted up Sue Storm powers.

Dear Jim,
Great columns.
Been reading the Spiderman/Human Torch mini, which leads to some questions.
How many times have the two heroes teamed up?
They’ve teamed up in some format around 90 times or so. These guys get along pretty well, but they pull a lot of pranks on each other.
What’s the story of the Spidermobile?
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #130
Originally, the Spider-Mobile came equipped with web-shooters, a Spider-Signal spotlight, and ejection seats.
Corona Motors, in an effort to promote their new non-polluting car engine, hired the advertising firm of Carter & Lombardo to approach Spider-Man about building a Spider-Mobile. Initially turning down the offer as a dumb idea, Spider-Man reconsidered when he realize how badly he needed the money for rent and expenses. Turning to his friend Johnny Storm, the pair began working on a Spider-Mobile
After some quick driving lessons from Johnny Storm, Spider-Man quickly puts the mobile to good use by using it to apprehend a gang of Hammerhead’s thugs
At some point, Mysterio tricks Spider-Man into dumping the Spider-Mobile in the river. Corona Motors demands their engine back and threaten to sue, so Spider-Man goes looking for the car only to find it missing . The Tinkerer recovered the car and modified to become an engine of death for Spider-Man instead. Spider-Man battled the Spider-Mobile and defeated the Tinkerer as well returning the destroyed car to the offices of Carter & Lombardo
What else has Dan Slott written, and why doesn’t he have a regular Spidey title?

Hey handbookers, going to add somethings for ya.
Quote: Molly Hayes aptly refers to herself as Bruiser because of her super-strength.
She is the token mutant of the group and the youngest memeber. That is affirmative action at its finest, ladies and gentlemen.
Molly calls herself “Princess Powerful”, Chase called her Bruiser, she didn’t care for it, but it stuck.
Quote:
Chase Stein took the name “Talkback” and his father’s wrist gauntlets.
He also took Gertie’s heart, in a sort opposites attract, we bicker all the time kind of way.
Chase gave the gauntlets to Alex, alext was killed wearing them and chase now has no powers, thus being the getaway driver and not getting into action in the new series.
Quote:
Grey Hulk still exist and is back with Peter Davis now writing it. He actually had both Hulk’s fight again.
The grey Hulk PAD had in the book was a robot, and if the current issue holds up, may not have existed at all.
Yep, I know. Remember, I write most of these handbooks during weekends and post them before going to the shop on Wednesday. Hulk hadn’t come out before I posted that response.
That’s it for this week. I think I’ll let my editor this week sign off first.
Well, thanks, Jim. I just wanted to say that Chris, Jamie and I had a blast in Pittsburgh this past weekend, it just may be my favorite con to attend. We’ll have a full con report in a couple days…as soon as we have some pics to go along with it.
Have a great week everyone.
Ok now my turn. Notes:
