The issue begins with The Question taking out Subterranean assault teams at the Science Spire construction site. He then utilized them to thwart the Science Spire’s intended purpose. In doing so he manages to free Six True Word’s spirit from it’s tomb, and the spirit repays The Question by assisting him with Van Vliet.

As Superman returns to Metropolis to investigate the aftermath of the Subterranean attack, he finds evidence of murder. He then confronts Psychopomp in the Supterranean train. Psychopomp reveals himself to be none other than The Question who masqueraded as the criminal to infiltrate the organization.

The Question explains the plot against Metropolis and Superman. Oddly enough Superman, takes offense at the measures Question took to resolve the matter and gives him 24 hours to leave Metropolis. The issue ends with Vic Sage, again, on the train having a conversation with a child.

Veitch has given us one of the best tales set in Metropolis in a long while. Superman is only a guest star, but Metropolis is still a well defined character in the book. The comic is also deep, almost too deep. But that depth makes the read all the more enjoyable. Veitch also writes an appropriately enigmatic Question.

Edwards’ art is mouthwateringly good. Having just reread Batman: Year One I realized that I love Edwards’ artwork because it’s highly reminiscent of David Mazzucchelli’s work. It’s glorious and evocative. This is about as close to a perfect looking book as I’ve ever seen. I truly hope that Edwards continues to work at this level. It’s also nice to see his Christopher Reeve inspired Superman this issue.
