The Sunday HEAT Wave

Archive

Welcome to the second edition of the Sunday HEAT Wave, we are live from Manchester, NH on site for Backlash at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Our host for the night are Todd Grisham and a very special (and may I add, very dressed up) Ivory on the outside of the arena looking in with the fans lining up to head inside.

They start of tonight’s show by pumping up the return of Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels tag- team match tonight against Hassan and side-kick Daivari. Where from there, they send us inside the arena to The Coach who is flying solo waiting for us to deliver news about the special Last Man Standing Match between Edge and Chris Benoit. Cutting to highlights of Edge winning the Money in the Bank Ladder match as WrestleMania, and the RAW footage of Edge versus Benoit that lead to the backstage brawl that got us to this point. Meanwhile, Coach informs us of the rules regarding the Last Man Standing match, which the only way either man can win is by knocking their opponent down for a ten count.

After commercial, we introduced to this weeks slam of the night highlighting Shelton Benjamin’s save of Chris Jericho from La Resistance, which eventually led to Shelton giving the T-Bone to Jericho this past Monday.

This leads to your typical Intercontinental Title match promo, which surprisingly is very short and only gives way to Lillian Garcia standing by backstage with the one and only Captain Charisma himself, Christian. He explains to us that his “Problem Solver” Tyson Tomko is scheduled to take on Val Venis later on in tonight’s broadcast on HEAT. However, he really wants us to know that he isn’t wrestling at Backlash tonight for the simple reason he has a “surprise” for us. One that will only show everyone else why he deserves to be in the main event spotlight. Another great promo by Christian, this guy is starting to get really good if you haven’t noticed!

Then right before the second commercial of the night, we get a highlight video of the ‘pedigree’ for the HHH vs. Batista II main event.

Coming back, we take a look back six weeks ago to Manchester, NH and its fans enduring the brutal weather for the Backlash tickets. Oh common, don’t tell me you haven’t or have even thought about camping out for tickets of such sorts!? But its good to know that there’s still die hard fans like us still out their in this world!

Todd and Ivory welcome us back from the break as we head towards the Hogan/ Michaels vs. Hassan/ Daivari segment of the show. Noting that this is the first time ever that Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels has ever teamed up. And we go onto the match highlight video hyping the match. Then followed up by the always eye- catching Lillian as she interviews Hassan and Daivari who have a few words to say for tonight’s match. More importantly that no matter how legendary these two icons they will fight tonight, Shawn will lose and Hulkamania will die.

Back from commercial, John Cena’s new CD is hyped, which if any of you are interested, will be released this Tuesday! And also a few highlights are shown for RAW’s overseas Revenge Tour show which showed coming off really good and exciting for all those fans.

Cut over to The Coach inside the filling arena, we take our first look of the night over the Viscera and Kane scheduled match for Backlash, (which I’m guessing took Christian’s spot for the night). We got back two weeks earlier to RAW, showing the giant beat down of Kane at the hands of the saving Viscera for Trish. Then highlight last Monday night’s ‘date’ between the Trish and Viscera at the restaurant. Which ends by Trish settling the big man’s moves on her by letting him know business is at hand first. And if Viscera cant get the deed done to Kane, then he shouldn’t expect the deed getting down from her. This promo spot was way overly done, and despite tonight’s HEAT basically being another recap show, they should have used this time to hype the Benjamin and Jericho match which will definitely be leaps and bounds better than this probable car- wreck will be.

Shooting back over Todd and Ivory we get a match rundown for tonight’s Backlash PPV.
– Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels vs. Hassan and Daivari
– Kane w/ Lita vs. Viscera w/ Trish Stratus
– Last Man Standing: Edge vs. Chris Benoit
– Tag Team Turmoil Title match: Simon Dean and Maven vs. La Resistance vs. The Heart throbs vs. Rosey and The Hurricane vs. William Regal and Tajiri (Champs)
– Intercontinental Title: Chris Jericho vs. Shelton Benjamin (Champ)
– Main Event World Title match: HHH vs. Batista (Champ) II

Finally coming back from out last commercial break of the night we are welcomed to HEAT by JR and Jerry “The King” Lawler as our announcers for the HEAT main event.

Val Venis vs. Tyson Tomko
We start the match with a lockup between the two as it breaks up within seconds leading to another lockup that goes back and forth. At last, Venis strikes first with a few shots and a takedown that gets a gauge to the eyes of Tomko, sending him to his knees. Switch-a-roo though as Tomko fakes the injury and uses it to his advantage to lay out Venis over the head and power him into the far right corner. A roll up is followed by Val into a two count then quickly back up only for a knockdown by Tomko to get another two. Momentum is then quickly switched over to Val Venis as he gets in a few clotheslines and begins to ‘heat’ up Tomko into the corner. Sit down power bomb is hit only for two as Val continues to light things up as he heads over to the top rope. Tyson though immediately gets up and counters, hitting Val down to take a seat up top leading to a slam which is converted to another roll up by Venis only for two. Wow, seems as though Val is really working hard to get technical in this match, really surprising. Back at hand though, the match starts to even off and the fans can feel it as the “We want Christian!” chants began to ring out. Um, can anyone here wink their eye and go ‘Wink, wink’!? Cuz I know I can, and hopefully WWE starts the get the ‘Hint, hint!’ Back to the match, Venis bounces off the rope only to get completely leveled by a big boot from Tomko who goes for the cover and gets the win!
-Winner: Tyson Tomko

JR and The King quickly go over the rundown of matches for the night as they end the show with a highlight video package to hype HHH vs. Batista II.

That’s the end of my shift… now onto Backlash. Hope you all enjoy the show and my second outing for HEAT; any comments will still be appreciated! Don’t forget to watch RAW tomorrow night and I’ll see you all next Sunday! Take care, Peace.

HEAT Wave of the night: Basically another recap show for HEAT in the second straight week, however it’s a lead up to Backlash so I can forbear. Nothing but highlight videos and last minute hype from the HEAT crew. And obviously the standout and “Wave” of the night, since it was the only match of the night is the Venis/ Tomko match. Which only leads me to say on a related topic, where’s Christian!?!?
