It looks like the wait is going to get even longer for fans of Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show.” In a statement Wednesday (May 4) afternoon, the cable network announced that production has been halted on the comedy show that the scheduled late-May premiere is now off.

“Comedy Central has suspended production on the third season of ‘Chappelle’s Show’ until further notice,” the statement reads. “All parties are optimistic that production will resume in the near future. The third season will not premiere on May 31st as originally scheduled.”

No network offered no reason for the latest delay.

Production has been difficult “Chappelle’s Show” since star Dave Chappelle signed a lucrative extension with Comedy Central last August.

First, Comedy Central noted back in December that Chappelle and his writing team simply got off to a late start on writing new episodes. Then, the comic was ill with the flu. Despite the delays, Comedy Central announced a late May premiere.

One of the cable network’s most popular shows, “Chappelle’s Show” became a smash when the DVD of its first season became one of the most popular TV-to-DVD entries ever.
