Despite recent poor press, “American Idol” continued to dominate the ratings Tuesday night.

FOX averaged a 12.7 rating/19 share in primetime, easily overcoming its competition. Thanks to yet another “Law & Order” crossover, NBC took second with an 8.5/13, edging out CBS, 8.1/13. ABC was a distant fourth at 4.5/7. The WB, 3.4/5, finished fifth, and UPN trailed behind at 1.6/2.

“American Idol” posted a 14.5/23 at 8 p.m., putting FOX well in front of CBS and “NCIS,” 8.5/13. “My Wife and Kids” and “George Lopez” managed a 4.0/6 for ABC, topping NBC’s “Most Outrageous TV Moments” and The WB’s “Gilmore Girls.” UPN’s “All of Us” and “Eve” came in last.

FOX kept the lead at 9 p.m. with “House,” 10.9/16. NBC made the move to second with “Law & Order: SVU,” 9.2/14. “The Amazing Race” posted another solid night, finishing with an 8.1/12 for CBS. ABC could only get a 5.2/8 from two episodes of “According to Jim.” “One Tree Hill” kept The WB in fifth, topping UPN’s “Veronica Mars.”

At 10 p.m., a new “Law & Order: Trial by Jury”,continuing the “SVU” story from the previous hour, got a whopping 12.5/20 to win the hour. “Judging Amy” ended its season, and maybe the series as well, with a 7.6/12 for CBS. ABC’s “Blind Justice” was third with a 4.3/7.
