Nothing in the mailbag, so it must be time to start another late recap of Desperate Housewives!

Previously, on Desperate Housewives:

Tampering with prescriptions, uncovering evidence, breaking and entering, and a whole lot of revenge.

Carlos tampers with Gabby’s birth control, Mike looks through a file on Dierdre, Susan and Edie try to figure out something about Paul Young, and Rex pisses off Curious George, The Curious Little Pharmacists who starts tampering with HIS prescription.

Fade to white…

Since she was a little girl, Susan Mayer wanted to be a mother in the worst way. And from the first day she brought Julie home from the hospital, she was. Despite her desire to do well by her daughter, Susan suffered through countless failures. Of course, it took Susan a few years to realize even the best of parents make mistakes now and then. But now that Julie was a teenage girl, Susan had started to realized there was no room for error.

We see a montage of Susan making mistakes as Julie’s mother, but now seeing Zach trying to get Julie’s attention, Susan has to take action. So she barges into Julie Mayer’s room, asking what the deal is. Julie isn’t encouraging this activity, however, so Susan decides to put a stop to it by opening the window right as Zach decides to really get Julie’s attention by grabbing a handful of gravel that goes RIGHT into Susan’s face. Now THAT’S funny.

Inside the Mayer house with Zach, Julie and Susan as Zach apologizes but he was just trying to get Julie’s attention. Julie asks what Zach wants now, but Zach just wants to see her again. Julie suggests cooling it for awhile, and Zach walks off, dejected. But Julie’s been waiting for an excuse to break up with Zach for some time now.

Yes, Susan had failed many times as a mother…so she took her victories where she found them.

Ford is sponsoring closed captioning and you are watching Desperate Housewives, sponsored by a bunch of people who don’t know good TV when they see it. Like, say, Lost?

Spring comes every year to Wisteria Lane. It’s the time when flowers start to bloom, when butterflies emerge from their cocoons, when bees begin to search for nectar. Spring is also the time when a young man’s fancy turns to…obsession.

And here’s Curious George walking up to Bree and Rex, as Rex complains that he’s not in good health since the doctor upped his dosage twice and it’s still not helping. Of course, this is only because George is being an idiot with the medicine. George invites Rex and Bree to a Bonsai expo full of Bonsai trees, which Bree accepts but Rex declines. “Wouldn’t it be easier to just shoot me?” “Yes.” However, when Rex notices George getting a little fresh with Bree he tries to get his wife out of this, but George can feel the jealousy which Rex tries to hide. So Rex is forced to not be jealous and let George and Bree go it alone, as Bree talks about buying an orchid with Rex. George hopes that Rex doesn’t purchase a beautiful flower and not know how to take care of it, but Rex hates weeds, they just pop out of nowhere and it’s hard to get rid of them. George finds that with the right chemicals you can get rid of just about anything. Nice.

Flowers are our transition to Gabrielle and Some Random Car Dealer as the woman shows off a nice convertible as Gabrielle seems to enjoy it but the smell seems rather intense. That’s 100% Italian calf, and that’s enough to make Gabby yak inside the car. Afterwards, as cleaning crews clean up the car she mentions how smells have been bothering her lately. The woman now realizes that she has all the symptomps of being pregnant, but Gabby takes offense to that, since she’s on the Pill for God’s sakes.

And now it’s Lynette bringing a file to the office but running into Tom and Annabel Foster.

If there was one person Lynette never expected to see again, it was Annabel Foster.

Eight years ago, Annabel begged Tom Scavo to marry her, but Tom said he wasn’t the marrying type. Of course, after meeting Lynette Lindquist, that all changed and an embittered Annabel moved to Chicago permanently…until now. Turns out Annabel has been working with Tom for about three months now and Tom hasn’t told Lynette a thing. Annabel starts getting fresh with Tom and Lynette seems to be a little steamed on the inside but isn’t showing it on the outside until she joyfully tomahawks her file at Tom before leaving the office.

Paul and Edie are at the construction site for Edie’s new house, and Manslaugher Mike’s a short distance away as Paul talks about Edie being at Paul’s house the other night. Edie tries to lie and say that she was just dropping off the key, but some things were moved around in Paul’s house and he doesn’t want to have to call the police. Edie finally breaks and tells Paul about Susan’s obsession with finding out why Mary Alice killed herself and almost flipping her lid when she found the name Angela written on one of the Young’s videotapes. Susan never found what she was looking for, however, but she does think that Paul is evil. So Paul is off on the prowl to find Susan, and Mike talks to Edie about the whole thing. If Edie liked Susan better, she might have warned her that Paul was on her way to find Susan, but…you know.

Mike and Susan meet at the coffee shop and despite Susan’s best efforts, she can’t avoid Mike as he talks to her about breaking into Paul Young’s house. Mike just came to warn Susan about Paul Young, telling her not to mess with him since Mike knows that he’s a bad guy. Susan was planning on doing that anyway, and she promises to Mike to stay away from him.

And now, a word from our sponsors… The beginning stuff with Susan was pretty boring, but the rest is pretty good stuff, even with Lynette, even though I know that her deal will be resolved in one episode.

Back with Rex and Bree as Rex makes a plea to not have Bree go out with George, since George is still in love with Bree and his hands still tremble when Bree touches him. Rex knows what that feeling is, and he knows that Bree shouldn’t hurt George…again. Rex even suggests switching pharmacies, and Bree reluctantly agrees, despite remembering one great thing about George: He always found a way to make her feel good. So Bree asks Rex if his hands tremble when he touches her, and Rex tells her the truth that they don’t, but they’ve been married for 18 years. They sure have, but Rex still doesn’t know when she needs him to lie.

Going to the pharmacy itself with Gabrielle and Some Random Pharmacist as Gabrielle asks if the home pregnancy test is a good one and the pharmacist does recommend it but can’t let Gabby use the restroom since it’s for employee’s only. But here comes George to scold the pharmacist on being rude to customers, telling her to put a smile on her face or she’ll be back stocking shelves where no one can see her. And then Bree is here so George plasters on a smile to greet her. But Bree has bad news, as she doesn’t think that she can go to the bonsai expo after all, since Rex still thinks that George is in love with her. George thinks that’s silly, because now he’s in love with Ginger, the stock girl turned pharmacist. Bree thinks that’s just wonderful as a friend of her’s is holding a barbecue so George should come with Ginger, so Rex can calm down about the two of them still being together. Gabby interrupts with a loud “son of a bitch” in the bathroom, but then calms down as she exits and makes an excuse for her language as she takes off in a hurry.

Arriving home from work, Tom runs into Lynette as Lynette interrogates Tom about Annabel Foster working there for three months. Tom was going to tell her but he just kept putting it off since he knew how she would react. Tom didn’t actually hire her anyway, it was Peterson who did it and Tom felt bad for blowing her off like that so he was just trying to be a good guy. Lynette wonders if Tom still has feelings for her, even just a little bit, but Tom doesn’t want to talk about it. Lynette warns that she has go to go, at least get transferred because Lynette will be watching Tom like a hawk if she doesn’t skedaddle. Tom is fine with that, because she’s definitely staying.

After taking a look at her mother’s latest project, Susan and Zach meet at the front door, as Zach leaves a present for Susan after blinding her. But Susan doesn’t think Zach should’ve done that, since Zach isn’t going to be friends with Susan anytime soon. Zach wonders how things are going to work for Julie if her mother and her boyfriend can’t get along, but Susan breaks it to Zach that Julie doesn’t want to have anything to do with him, which totally breaks Zach’s heart as he doesn’t believe Susan. And then he turns on Susan, saying that if that’s true, it’s only because Susan tells Julie things about him which aren’t true. Zach is raising his voice at this point but Paul Young yells from across the street for Zach to come home, getting the attention of Felicia Huber, who is watching from next door. Zach begs Susan not to ruin this for him, and then turns to face the music back home, his gift having been denied. The focus is on Felicia now, though…

…as we flashback to Felicia and Mrs. Huber at Felicia’s house, as Martha discovers a picture of Mary Alice and explains how it is meaningful to her. But Felicia only knows her as Angela Forrest, and then asks if this Mary Alice has any kids. When Martha talks about Zach, Felicia realizes that while Angela was working at the rehab center, they had a disturbed young woman give birth to a boy, and a year later the boy disappeared along with Angela and her husband. Felicia had always hoped that they would find a good place for the young boy, and Martha realizes in shock that they stole the baby. Felicia asks Martha not to look shocked since it makes her face look fat and then explains that the mother was a drug addict and so the boy was lucky that they were whisked away. Well, this would explain Martha’s blackmail letter, wouldn’t it?

And now, a word from our sponsors… Paul/Zach/Felicia is the most exciting stuff, but Bree/Rex/George is good and Gabrielle/Carlos is going to get even better when Gabby finds out what Carlos has been doing with her birth control.

Lynette and Annabel meet in the office break room as Annabel invites Lynette to lunch but Lynette doesn’t seem willing to be doing that and cuts to the chase, asking if Annabel still has feelings for Tom. She does, but she isn’t looking to break up a happy couple as that seems to be more of what Lynette does, anyway. In a rather funny moment, a guy comes in to get a cup of coffee, talking about how great coffee is and then leaving just as quickly to break up the tension between Lynette and Annabel. Lynette doesn’t see Annabel as a threat, but Annabel thinks otherwise, since Lynette is here, warning her.

Goin’ to the chapel and we’re gonna join Gabrielle and Some Random Pastor as the pastor quickly wonders what Gabrielle has done now. We jump ahead to the post-pregnancy thing as Gabby complains that God is screwing with her, punishing her for the way she lives her life. The pastor wonders if she’s done something worth punishing and then realizes that the gardener is back with her. Anyway, Gabby just wants to know who she can be angry at. The pastor suggests her not to be angry and to instead be thankful, but Gabby doesn’t have time for this and has a party to plan. Well, a certain scriptwriter isn’t a big fan of men of the cloth.

And we’re whisked away to Edie’s construction site with Lynette as Lynette needs some advice on how to get Annabel away from Tom so that they don’t fool around. Edie is told that Annabel is gorgeous, so there’s only one way to go about doing things: Make Annabel her best friend. When you feel threatened by a woman, you gotta pull her in. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer…

…so back to the Scavo house as Lynette tells Tom that she’s thinking of inviting Annabel to a dinner party that they will be having soon.

Paul and Zach Young are arguing over the “moving or not” decision once again, as Zach doesn’t want to leave Julie behind. Paul thinks it’s just a schoolyard crush, but Zach still thinks Julie loves him. It’s just that Susan is lying to her daughter about Zach. But Paul brings up a point of Julie being a very special girl, able to get any guy she wants, and when it comes right down to it, the truth is Zach’s a wonderful kid, but he’s not really special. Zach looks extremely dejected as Paul once again suggests moving away, but Zach still won’t go and Paul then gets serious, saying that if the police get on Paul’s tail it’ll all be over for him and Zach. Zach doesn’t think anything matters anymore, however, since Julie doesn’t love him anymore.

And now, a word from our sponsors… Don’t care about Lynette, Gabrielle is kinda fading, but maybe it’ll all be worth it in the end.

Dinner party time, with Tom, Lynette and Annabel as the dinner is over but the party is just beginning as the three boys arrive. They hand a picture over to Annabel, a picture they painted of the family being together and being happy. Tom smells a skunk, and the boys confirm that Lynette told them to, but Lynette does her best to silence them. Tom then takes his leave to put the boys to bed, leaving Lynette and Annabel alone. Annabel commends Lynette on planning everything so well that it looked like a commercial for the perfect family, and Lynette is happy about that.

Stuffing trash? Don’t lower that lid too quickly, because Susan finds Paul right behind that trash can lid. Creepy to the max. Paul blows the cover on Susan snooping around in the Young’s house, but then invites Susan to ask whatever she wishes about Angela. Inside the Young house Paul makes up or tells the story of Angela being named after her aunt, and after a falling out with that aunt she changed her name to Mary Alice. Susan doesn’t believe it would be something so simple and that Mary Alice would so such a thing, but Paul mentions that no one thought she would commit suicide. Susan has no more questions…except to see the videotape that she found. But Paul threw that video out in the trash, and suggests Susan leave his family alone now, as the suspicion is getting tiring.

Back at the Dinner Party as Annabel has to take a call from Peterson and Tom is insulted by this party and all the insinuations of the family being happy. Tom wonders if Lynette is so insecure that she has to take those measures, but Lynette points out that when Tom met her, he was technically cheating on Annabel. Tom then launches into a rant of Lynette’s distrust, ending with a horrific line of suggesting that Lynette drive him out of this marriage to prove herself right about being so suspicious of Tom. Any person can take a certain side there, so I won’t bother taking one. So now Tom has to pull an all-nighter to redo a presentation due first thing the next morning, so Annabel and Tom have to go back to the office alone.

And now, a word from our sponsors… Wouldn’t it be wild if the stress from her failing marriage forced Lynette back into her addiction to A.D.D. medication? Susan/Paul was awesome, awesome stuff and I just loved it to death as Paul is one of my favorite guys on this show, just because he’s so evil but he’s so good at being evil and creepy.

The Solis’ barbecue is in full swing as Carlos makes Gabby watch over the grill while he makes a speech, but the scent of the meat seems to be too strong for Gabrielle to handle and she can barely keep from yakking long enough for Carlos to finish his speech about finding out who true friends are when a man is ready to go to jail. Gabrielle finally makes a run for it, stealing a bottle from Susan’s mother, as George keeps Ginger in line, telling her to not bring attention to herself until she is needed and just making a try to fit in. Her cousin was getting “married” (committment ceremony), but George could care less. Oh yeah, and Zach and Paul have arrived at the barbecue, white suits and all, as Susan and Julie get nice and worried.

Inside the house now as Gabby looks to have grabbed a bottle of champagne, but she shuts herself off from all the smells and gets the fan going to get the good air in.

Outside the house, Zach brings Julie a hot dog, but Julie is full and she finally just has to say it to Zach that she doesn’t want to be her boyfriend anymore and she just wants to be left alone.

Inside the house Gabby pours a glass of champagne, and then wisely tosses it out before taking a look at the birth control pills…and then taking a closer look at the pills.

In that moment, while looking at the pills that had been so obviously tampered with, Gabrielle’s nausea was suddenly replaced by an even stronger sensation–rage.

Outside the house, Julie is mingling with a boy, and Zach looks dejected. Here comes George to mingle with Bree, but Rex cuts him off and George spills a drink on Rex. Rex looks a little steamed and can’t believe that George is around but Bree breaks the tension by saying that George has a girlfriend so it’s okay. And we see Ginger stuffing her face as Rex doesn’t quite believe that. But George is wanting an apology, and Bree thinks Rex owes him some kind of gesture…so Rex pauses…and then pushes both George and Bree into the pool. Well, he pushes George, but George tries to stay stable by hanging on to Bree, who spills into the pool. “Rex, have you lost your mind?” “To be fair, I only pushed him.” And here comes Gabrielle to call Carlos a son of a bitch for making her pregnant, and then storming off as Susan looks shocked and Carlos looks pretty pleased with himself. Edie seems pleased as well at how this has turned into quite the party. Edie went with Felicia, naturally.

And now a word from our sponsors… Lots of stuff going on at that barbecue. All the storylines meshing into one locale and everything’s blowing up. Lynette is the only one on the outside, and I fear something terrible is going to happen there. Oh yeah, home stretch, too.

Back on the front lawn of the Solis house, as Gabby and Susan talk about the pregnancy, as Gabrielle is so angry. Susan tries to soften the blow, but Gabrielle makes things rough when she reveals that she doesn’t know who the father is. But before Susan can give her advice on that…Susan’s kitchen explodes in a big ball of fire. The cause of the fire is revealed to be someone leaving the gas on with some candles burning, and Susan’s mother isn’t sure that she blew out the one candle that was burning at the time, but she thinks that she did. And then Susan looks across the street at Paul, who receds back into his house, as Susan promises the firefighter to be more careful next time. Nice work, Paul.

At the pharmacy with Curious George and Bree, as Bree tries to apologize for what Rex did. George knows that Rex hates him, and isn’t going to let Bree and George be friends. George wonders what Bree would do if Rex ordered her not to see George anymore, so Bree decides to keep it a secret that she’s spending free time with George. Ah, but maybe George should keep it a secret from Ginger. Or has that whole thing been blown out yet?

Susan looks worried, so she decides to grab a phone book and make a plea to an investigating company, as she explains that she thinks Paul set the fire and that it has something to do with Mary Alice. The police didn’t take her seriously, but the family’s got a bad secret, and she needs to know everything about Paul Young and his family. The investigator doesn’t think he can do that, he knows he can. Because it’s the same investigator as earlier in the season! Rahhhhh!

Spring comes every year to Wisteria Lane, but not everyone remembers to stop and smell the flowers. Some are too busy worrying about the future…or mistakes they’ve made in the past. Others are preoccupied with not getting caught…or thinking of ways to catch someone else. Still, there will always be a few who remember to take a moment and appreciate what Spring has given them. Just as there will always be those who prefer to sit in the dark, brooding over everything they’ve lost.

Lynette worries about what Tom is going to do, Gabrielle worries about having sex with both Carlos and John and now not knowing who the father is. Bree is sneaking off with Rex, and Susan is trying to catch Paul in the act. Felicia is planting flowers and appreciating Spring, but a man lies in the dark with a lighter burning bright…and that man is Zach Young, looking at the pictures of Julie on his wall.

End show! YAHHHHHHHHH!

Looks like we’re picking up some steam leading to the season finale, but Lynette’s going to have to pick up the slack if anything is going to get done around Wisteria Lane. Everyone else seems to be zooming ahead just fine, as Rex’s bad medication finally catching up with him might not be a bad way to swerve us on the Bree/George thing. Another heart attack from seeing Bree/George together, maybe?
