'Survivor' Finale Can't Beat 'Housewives'

CBS did well with its “Survivor: Palau” finale, but still couldn’t top ABC’s Sunday juggernaut.

Overall, ABC averaged a 10.9 rating/18 share, with CBS’ 10.0/16 just behind. NBC was well back in third with a 6.0/10, followed by FOX’s 4.5/7 and a 1.7/3 for The WB.

CBS started the night in the lead with a 7.9/15 for “60 Minutes.” ABC’s first hour of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” took second with a 6.2/12. NBC’s “Dateline” was third, topping the 3.3/6 managed by “King of the Hill” and “Malcolm in the Middle” on FOX. The WB was last with “Charmed.”

The first hour of the “Survivor” finale delivered a 10.8/17 to give the 8 p.m. hour to CBS. ABC’s “EM: HE” shot up to a 10.0/16 in its second hour. FOX moved up to third with a 5.4/9 for the season’s final new episodes of “The Simpsons.” NBC fell to fourth with “The Contender,” still ahead of the 2.2/3 for The WB’s “Charmed.”

ABC moved into first at 9 p.m. with the massive 15.6/23 for “Desperate Housewives.” CBS stayed strong with an 11.8/17 for “Survivor.” NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” took third with a 7.0/10. FOX dropped to fourth with the 5.1/7 averaged by “Family Guy” and “American Dad.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” finished the evening for ABC with an 11.9/19, beating the 9.7/15 for the “Survivor” reunion on CBS. NBC’s “Crossing Jordan” was a solid third.
