The NBA and the NBA Player’s Association have canceled a previously schedule meeting to discuss a new collective barganing agreement. The meeting was supposed to be held today in New York.
This could be a sign that a new agreement won’t be easy to reach. Commisioner David Stern publicly declared optimism, late last month, that a lockout of the players wouldn’t happen.
The current agreement expires on June 30, 2005.
The league owners are looking to:
1.) Reduce the maximum length of long-term contracts.
2.) Reduce the size of annual percentage salary increases in long-term contracts.
3.) Raise the minimum age for players.
