'TLC' Reality Show Hits UPN This Summer

UPN has set a date for its reality show “R U the Girl with T-Boz & Chilli,” in which the surviving two members of R&B group TLC will begin the search for a replacement for the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

The show, a talent search starring Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, is scheduled to debut at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday, July 27. It’s scheduled to run for nine weeks, which will take UPN into the start of the fall season and, presumably, the return of “America’s Next Top Model” to the same time period.

UPN describes “R U the Girl” as a “journey filled with emotion, comedy, surprises and special guests to look for that one lucky and talented girl who just might be the perfect fit.” Over the course of the show, eight finalists will be put through a series of challanges, with the winner getting a chance to record a single with Watkins and Thomas for their greatest hits disc. The winner will also perform live with the duo in the show’s finale.

The surviving members of TLC insist they’re not exactly looking to “replace” Lopes, who died in a car accident in 2002. Instead, they’re referring to the search as a “bridge to the next stage of their careers.”
