THE MIKE MONDO CHALLENGE

As the camera panned across the faces of the fans at the Davis Arena, Al and Dean welcomed viewers to another week of OVW and to the second round of the Television Title Tournament. Before a match could kick off however, an angry Mike Mondo stomped his way out to the ring with Ms. Blue right behind him (no doubt, as she should be, in Mike’s mind).

Mondo demanded the microphone, asking everyone if they thought what had happened to him over the past two weeks was funny. Of course, the answer was yes. It was not the answer he was looking for though. Mondo was mad. There is no place in wrestling for women, he said. In fact, there are only three things women should be allowed to do: “One, do the laundry; Two, do the housework; and, Three, do me.”

Smugly, he told Ms. Blue to tie one of his hands behind his back. Don’t know if that’s covered under Two or Three above, but there was no time to question it, as Mondo demanded that clips of what had occurred with Alexis the past two weeks be shown while Ms. Blue went to work on the tying up (something she’s no doubt good at). When they came back from showing Alexis humiliating him the past two weeks, Mondo dared any of the women backstage to come out and wrestle him, with one arm tied behind his back to prove how he didn’t need both arms in order to beat any of them.

To his horror, the Queen, the Widow’s Peak Freak herself, Victoria came out to accept his challenge. She did feel that Mondo perhaps should have gotten someone his own size, but to help him understand she told him in what she said was his native language — an Ommpa-Loompa sing-song voice – that she was going to beat him. Better yet, and to further Mondo’s horror, the referee for the match would be none other than Earl Hebner.

Mondo demanded that Hebner check Victoria for weapons. As he did so, Mondo reach in from behind his back and poked Victoria in the eye. Not knowing this occurred, Hebner asked for the match to start and Mondo continued his assault on her with chokes and stomps. Victoria fought back with a slap to the face, followed by returning the eyepoke to Mondo and then slamming him to the mat. As she prepared to do the widow’s peak, Mondo scooted off. Victoria ran to the ropes, but was tripped by Ms. Blue on the outside. Hebner began telling Ms. Blue off as Mondo pinned Victoria.

Seeing that he was not getting his 1-2-3, Mondo got up and pushed Hebner. Heber pushed back, right into Victoria, who rolled Mondo up and got the pin. Victoria followed up the pin by going over to Ms. Blue and kicking her off the apron.

Hebner raised Victoria’s arm in victory as the two headed to the back.

That was certainly not the last we were to see of Bolin Services on the show, as the next segment proved out when Maria arrived to tell the audience how things were going for Round Two of the Television Title Tournament. The matches for the show would be Deuce Shade vs. Paul Birchall and Ken Doane vs. Aaron “The Idol” Stevens. As for Blaster Lashley’s match against Alexis Laree the previous week where he destroyed her; due to his unprofessional and ungentlemanly behavior he was to be fined $5,000 and disqualified from the tournament.

This brought Kenny Bolin out to the announcers’ table. He ranted and raved enough to warrant Al offering him a tic-tac, but what he really wanted was to have Seven meet Blaster Lashley in the ring on the program that night. Al agreed, with the stipulation that no one else from Bolin Services would be allowed ringside. When Bolin started to throw a tantrum about it, Al told him to shut up as they were preparing to start the next match.

TV TITLE ROUND TWO
DEUCE SHADE VS. PAUL BIRCHALL

REF: Deuce Mahoney

Deuce came out with his flashy Vegas-style outfit and threw cards to the fans. Paul came out flashing his smug smile and ready to start as the second round of the Television Title Tournament officially began.

Shade started off with getting Birchall’s arm behind his back, but Paul misdirected the ref long enough to elbow Deuce in the face and then roll Shade up for a near-pin. Birchall continued with the beatdown until Shade pulled out a flying clothesline on Paul for a near-pin. Getting Birchall on his stomach, Deuce folded up Paul’s legs and rode him like a surfboard before slamming him. An attempt for a move off of the ropes led to Birchall pulling up his legs and giving Deuce a Gutbuster, however.

Birchall was back in control, with enough stomps and suplexes to get a two-count on a pin-attempt. He continued in the same manner for some time, but all he could get were near-pins. He then pulled Shade up into a bearhug, which left Deuce spent. An attempt to get fancy with a kick was a poor choice though, as Deuce moved and Birchall missed completely, opening himself up for Shade to drop him for a two-count.

Grabbing Paul by the hand, Deuce pulled him over to the ropes, where Shade jumped to the second rope, bounced to the top rope and jumped back to slam Birchall down with a simultaneous armbreaker for another two-count. The two squared off for a time until Birchall began to setup a vertical suplex. Shade reversed the hold, shoved Paul’s head between his legs and dropped him in a face-first slam for the pin and the win. Deuce Shade will be moving on to the next stage of the Television Title Tournament.

TV TITLE ROUND TWO
KEN DOANE VS. AARON “THE IDOL” STEVENS W/BETH PHOENIX

RE: Chris Kay

Ken Doane was ready to go in the ring, but that was not to be the case with The Idol. Still wearing his spectacular robe, Stevens came out wearing a neckbrace and with a concerned Beth Phoenix by his side. Grabbing the microphone at the announcers’ table, Idol asked for quiet as he told Ken that it was obvious he was incapacitated and requested that Ken postpone the match until he was “100%.” If Doane would do that, then “Beth will do something for you!” Beth began seductively approaching the ring, but Doane – probably remembering the trouble he ran into the year before with Melina – told her to go back.

Beth and Aaron were upset, but a match was a match. Aaron slowly worked his collar off and his robe and crawled into the ring. Before he could even stand up, however, Danny Inferno ran in to attack Stevens. Stevens ran out, tripping over some cables and barely reaching the exit door before Inferno could completely destroy him.

With Aaron gone after getting into the ring, Stevens was counted-out, making Doane the winner without having to wrestle the match. With Phoenix in the ring and defenseless, Doane reached over and gave her a hearty kiss, while Inferno pulled her over his knee for a spanking. Yet, before he could begin, Kenzo Suzuki and Gangrel ran out and began beating down on both Doane and Inferno. A happy Idol then entered the ring to watch the punishment continue.

NICK NEMETH VS. OSAMA
REF: Robert Brisko

The match began with Osama dominating. It was soon cut short by a run-in from a returning Lance Cade. Cade chased Osama off and gave Nemeth a DDT. He then grabbed the microphone to tell everyone about his time in the WWE developmental program. Five years ago, Cade said, he was signed to be in the WWE developmental program and was told that he was being groomed to be the “youngest World Heavyweight Champion ever! EVER! Now I know you’re asking yourself the same question I am: What the hell am I doing here?”

Lance blamed an injury he suffered in his last match in OVW to have destroyed all his dreams. He blamed that injury on everyone in OVW, from Danny Davis and Jim Cornette straight through to the cameramen and even the women at the snackbar. Cade said that he would not leave the ring until OVW owed up to the thing they did to him and have Brent Albright come out for a match for the OVW Championship belt.

Albright came out all right, but not to simply say yes to a match. Instead, he came out swinging and the two slugged away, right out of the ring and into the back as the refs tried to break them apart.

How will such a match against Albright and Cade turn out? Come to Six Flags on June 17 for the match-up between the two for the Championship belt.

THE BLONDE BOMBERS W/JILLIAN HALL VS. RUSSELL SIMPSON & ROBERT FURY
REF: Robert Brisko

After a pep talk in more ways than one from Tank Toland and Melissa Coates to Chad in the back, the Tolands come out to immediately jump into the ring and beatdown on Simpson and Fury. Rarely getting any offense in, the Tolands make quick work of Simpson and Fury, and even continued to beat on them after the match was over and the Blonde Bombers had won.

As they continue this punishment, a man runs into the ring and started beating on the Tolands. With a disguise quickly falling away, the audience and viewers at home find out that the man was none other than former OVW Champion and one-time tag-team partner to Tank Toland, Chris Cage!

The Tolands ran off with Hall as Cage drew cheers from the audience. Cage then took the microphone to let fans know that after four and a half months of waiting, he was back. The restraining order against the Tolands had been lifted and now Cage could strive to get to WWE once again. But first, he planned to take care of the Tolands at Six Flags with the help of Jerry “The King” Lawler. He then warned the Blonde Bombers that he had four and a half months’ worth of frustration to take out on them when the time comes.

SEVEN VS. BLASTER LASHLEY
REF: Chris Kay

Blaster Lashley was out to the ring first, followed by Seven. Lashley came out of the ring and the two began just walloping away on each other, while Kay tried to get them into the ring for the official start of the match. After dropping Seven face-first on the guardrail, the two finally enter the ring.

Once inside, Blaster hit Seven a few times in the ribs. Seven followed with a couple of clotheslines and a shoulderblock, before hitting the fireman’s-carry backdrop. Taping his hands up, Seven then punched Blaster a couple of times and went for the pin. Kay slapped the mat once, twice, and then got pulled out of the ring by Mike Mondo. As Al Snow commented on Mondo being restricted from appearing there, Mondo smashed his helmet into Seven’s skull.

That was enough for Al and he chased Mondo off with his bat. Meanwhile, in the ring, Blaster slammed Seven down and got a two-count for the pin-attempt. Pulling Seven up, Blaster misjudged how aware Seven was and fell backwards as Seven pushed him. Lashley hit Kay on the way down and Kay went flying out of the ring while Seven waited with Blaster in a pin position.

Fellow ref Robert Brisko ran out and got up to two before Blaster kicked out of the hold. Blaster then crotched Seven and completely gave up on a proper win when he punched Brisko straight out of the ring.

With the match in disqualification, Lashley began throwing steel chairs into the center of the ring. Once he got a good pile of chairs setup there, he slammed Seven into the center of it, wrenching Seven’s back. With security being unable to control the wild Blaster Lashley, the show came to an end with a wild ride ahead of all the viewers come the next Six Flags Summer Sizzler series show on June 17.
