Archive

– WrestlingObserver.com’s Dave Meltzer has posted that reports out of Japan confirm that Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome will be added to the ECW One Night Stand PPV Sunday. Matches already announced are:

Chris Jericho vs. Lance Storm
Little Guido vs. Super Crazy vs. Tajiri
Rey Mysterio vs. Psychosis
Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero
Tommy Dreamer & Sandman vs. The Dudleyz

– As you can read in Gene Lindberg’s Byte This! report, it was also announced that RVD will be cutting a 6-10 minute promo at the PPV, and the injured Spike Dudley and Stevie Richards WILL be participating in the show.

– RVD, who was responsible for bringing the ECW One Night Stand PPV idea to Vince, posted the following on his Web site:

Here’s what happened. I said “Have you ever thought of doing an ECW pay per view?”

He said “No, I’ve never thought about that,” and gave me his ear. I told Vince “Dude, it would be huge! Just the guys that were actually in ECW, wrestling totally ECW style for one night!”

“We’re the toughest guys you have in your locker room, you don’t need to worry about anyone getting hurt. We don’t need storylines. You don’t even have to turn all the lights on in the building, it’s not about that. Just one night only. All ECW!”

Vince told me he liked my idea. I’m not going to tell you exactly what he said because, come on, don’t you think this is sticking my head out enough for you?

Paul Heyman calls later and tells me that Vince in VERY interested. “Holy Shit” I thought. This could become a reality.

– 1Wrestling.com’s Bob Ryder is reporting that Perry Saturn, who was slated to be teaming with Kronus at the Hardcore Homecoming show this weekend (but not as of yet announced for ECW One Night Stand) will no longer be appearing due to a neck injury. He had surgery earlier this week to repair this nagging problem, so the Eliminators reunion will no longer take place and that segment of the show is being rewritten. He is also reporting that people have already started gathering at the ECW Arena as the arena gets set up, and tailgating is already planned for tomorrow.

– Alex Marvez’ recent syndicated column is all about ECW.

– Dave Meltzer at WrestlingObserver.com is also speculating that, while no plans are set in stone, it’s safe to say that after this weekend, the ECW brand will be making a comeback in some capacity.

– PWInsider.com is reporting that Pitbull Gary Wolfe will be at One Night Stand, as will be ring announcer Stephen DeAngelis.
