CTV Introduces Canadian Idol’s Top 32
First “Group of Eight” competes next Tuesday, June 14
Toronto, ON (June 8, 2005) – Four months, 8,100 kilometers and thousands of auditions later, the hunt for Canada’s next Canadian Idol is now down
to 32 competitors. On tonight’s broadcast, Canadian Idol judges Farley Flex, Jake Gold, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner revealed their final choices for the exclusive Top 32. Now, CTV announces the names of the 32 competitors who will put it all on the line in front of the Canadian voting public beginning next week.
The 32 competitors represent eight provinces and 25 communities from Duncan, British Columbia to Burlington, Newfoundland. Ranging in age from
16 to 27, the semi-finalists are a snapshot of Canadian youth, representing Canada’s diverse ethnic population, regional distinctions and
rich history of talented performers. Four were born outside of Canada (Cuba, Columbia, India and England). Four speak French as their first
language. Among the 13 guys and 19 girls are an automotive technician, night club host, children’s theatre instructor, Stratford Festival actor,
paralegal, make-up artist, radio DJ and finance consultant. One of them will become the next Canadian Idol.
The semi-finalists have outperformed thousands upon thousands of competitors and survived a grueling seven rounds of auditions in front of
Canadian Idol’s four-member judging panel. Their fate now, however, lies in the hands of the voting public. Starting next Tuesday, June 14, Canadians will vote to determine which of the Top 32 will advance to the Top 10.
The Top 32 have been divided into four groups of eight. Each group will perform over four consecutive Tuesday nights (June 14, 21, 28 and July 5) at 8 p.m. ET/PT (check local listings) on CTV, after which Canadians will vote for their favourite performers (voting details to be announced soon). During a live, half-hour show on Wednesday nights (June 15, 22, 29 and July 6) at 8 p.m. ET/PT (tape delayed in the West) on CTV, the two competitors with the most votes each week will advance to the Top 10. The final two Top 10 competitors will be determined after a Wild Card
showdown on July 12 and the first of nine, live Top 10 shows will begin July 19.
