The Scholar

Previously on….Davis boasting about how he is the big fish, Gerald not stepping up and Amari not feeling confident.

Then in the challenge, Davis messes up and Melissa wins the $50,000.

Melissa talks about leadership. Melina talks about the bond her and Melissa have.

Scot breaks down the groups.

Melissa and Melina.

Davis and Liz

Alyssa and Max.

Scot says he is a loner and how

Davis says his parents make $140,000. His brother is in private school.

Scott assumed that everyone was super poor. He finds out that is not the case. His parents make less than $50,000 a year.

Over to Scot’s hometown in Pennsylvania. Scot’s mom talks about her is son is independent and how he taught himself algebra. They show Scot doing Tae-Kwon-Do. His dad tells us that Scot got 1580 on the SATs.

Obviously Scot is going to be a captain this week. They are giving him huge play.

Captain’s quiz

The host Rob introduces today’s topic: Art

Scot feels comfortable with art history.

The challenge:10 artists, 10 of their works and the players have to match them up. Most right answers wins.

Max is not feeling good about art.

Gerald says he doesn’t expect to be a captain, as he is not good on timed tests. Wow, what a dope.

Liz says her parents know about art so she figures she will do ok.

Rob announces that one person got a perfect score.

Commercial time

Well they are sure pimping Scot tonight. The guy reminds me so much of a friend of mine it’s eerie. They look the same, talk the same and are basically the same person. Well my friend would probably not get a 1580 on the SATs. So because of the similarities I am obviously rooting for Scot.

Admitedly I probably would have been lucky to get 2 out of 10.

Back from commercial and Rob announces that the person with the perfect score also had the fastest time.

Melissa was the person…wow she sure looks to be a step above everyone else.

Scot had the second fastest time….but Liz had more correct answers.

The team captains are Melissa and Liz.

Liz is “thrilled” to do so well. Man this girl is gonna be cannon fodder for a frat boy at some university.

If her team wins Melissa gets to appoint someone to go to the showdown in her place.

Melissa wants to make sure she proves continues to proof herself to the scholarship committee.

Team Challenge

It’s all about school spirit. Rob introduces Lori, the advisor and coach to the USC spirit squad.

The challenge is to get the most number of USC students

They also must create and perform a 3 minute routine

Judge Lori gets to decide the winner.

Alyssa feels good about things as she is a “spirit person.”

Scot was up for an intellectual challenge, not cheering.

They have $500 to spend on campus for things they want to use.

Gerald was his school’s mascot. They show him in his tiger outfit. Oh man he must have gotten his ass kicked fairly often.

He says that there are only 2 black kids in the AP classes in his grade. It turns out that Gerald sits in the front row.

Gerald is a good boy and he wants to give back to his mom. He wants to buy her a house. Blah, blah, blah.

They are giving him a lot of play. It looks like he will step up in what should be “his challenge.”

They show his mom and him praying together.

Time to pick teams.

Melissa picks. Milana

Liz: Gerald

Melissa: Scott

Liz: Davis

M: Alyssa

L: Amari

M: Max

L: Jeremy

Red Team: Melissa (Captain), Milana, Scot, Alyssa, Max
Gold Team: Liz (Captain), Gerald, Davis, Amari, Jeremy.

Jeremy does not seem pleased that he is the last one “picked.” A big drop after being a captain last week.

I think Liz’s selection of Gerald indicates she probably knows about Gerald’s “spirit” background.

Max and Amari seem to once again be the black sheeps, earning little respect so far.

Shawn from the admissions committee talks about how school spirit is important on the applications.

Jeremy has the idea of having a raffle to get people to the game.

They buy a bunch of USC stuff from the bookstore.

Gerald gets more play as he promises to show a different Gerald.

David debates wearing a cheerleader skirt. (oh he is so gay and in the closet)

Liz decides they need to split up.

Peter from the admissions committee is not impressed with the decision to split up.

Amari and Gerald work on the choreography.

The rest of the team is trying to get people to show up.

Red Team:

They are working on the dance competition, the are kinda giving up on the pennant competition.

Max talks about how Scot has no rhythm, since he is white…lol.

Scot looks lost and confused. He has everyone yelling instructions at him.

Melissa feels Milana is taking over and trying take charge too much.

The girls are all arguing about what to do.

Peter talks about how they should be collaborating and are not working together.

The team then decides that they should go give out their flags, which indicate how many people they “brought” to the game.

Shawn talks about how it is a tough challenge to get people to show up for the volleyball game. Yeah Shawn this isn’t football with Matt Leinart, heck its note even women’s volleyball with hot chicks.

Max thinks they should just hand out flags to people going to the game. Kinda cheap but it’s effective. Max starts giving out flags to people heading to the game. Max tries to charm the ladies.

The gold team is using their raffle idea to get people to show up.

Scot is painting his flesh red.

Shawn says Scot is surprising him most as a having good social skills for being home-schooled.

There are 5 minutes left. Davis says there is a problem. He can’t find the gift card they are supposed to give as a raffle prize.

Commercial time.

Oh Davis you dumbass. Didn’t you watch The Apprentice where that guy left the credit card at the Best Buy? How far have the “mighty” have fallen.

After the short break the Gold team discuss how Davis might have lost the card. They try to retrace their steps. Davis decides to use his own money to get another gift card.

The volleyball game starts. They show people eating and not really watching the game, it’s not packed at all.

The teams get ready for their performances.

Scot looks awesome with his red painted face.

The red team goes first. They run out in front of the audience.

They start to dance very much all over the place to reggae music but the fans seem to like it. They start to chant USC. Max is going into the crowd to give high fives and giving out prizes.

If I remember anything from university football games is that we always liked, “Free Shit” and these fans are no different.

Gerald feels bad as there aren’t many yellow flags and the crowd reacted well to the red team.

The yellow team goes with a more traditional cheer like performance. Gerald seems to be leading it. Theirs is actually choreographed.

Davis offers the $100 to the most spirited person in the house. That gets the crowd going.

Lori tells them that she liked the energy and enthusiasm from both teams.

There were 49 red and 16 yellow pennants.

For her it came down to the crowd response.

She gives it to the red team as the crowd only responded to the gold team at the end because they waited too long to give out the prizes.

All of the red team members get $2000 from Wal-Mart to decorate their dorm rooms in September.

Melissa gets to pick one member of her team gets to go to the showdown.

Gerald asks his team who Melissa will pick?

Jeremy and Liz thinks Milana will be picked.

Gerald thinks Shawn won’t want him in the showdown. Davis thinks Gerald and Jeremy are going.

Amari is mad that no one sees her as competition. Honey that is because you are a wallflower that does not stand out, be confident, step up or step out!

Melissa has an idea in her head whom she should choose. She wants to write down all her thoughts about who did what in the competition but that just confuses her. She goes to talk to Francine, the residence advisor, to talk about her decision.

She says she picked Milana because of her dance skills but feels her leadership techniques did not work well.

She does not like the relationship between Alyssa and Max so that is making the decision tougher.

She has her decision and will tell everyone tomorrow, she hopes it won’t bite her in the ass tomorrow.

With that…more advertisements.

Melissa prepares to make her speech. Max thinks she will pick Milana.

She has decided on someone…, she chooses Max.

Davis is surprised.

She feels that Max’s idea of giving out the pennants put him ahead in the group. Max is happy to be rewarded. Melissa hopes that Milana is not upset at her but she feels Max is the best choice.

Rob Nelson says the committee will meet with the rest of the team

They show different people come in but no details..until…

Milana who is questioned about her outspokenness.

Liz is questioned on her leadership abilities as captain. Liz says she does not feel being bossy would have worked. Marquesas (isn’t that a season of Survivor) wants Liz to be heard more, a stronger force.

Gerald is attacked by Shawn for only getting 16 people to show up the volleyball game. Gerald talks about how their strategy was wrong.

Milana asks about what Melissa she said when she announced Max for the showdown. Melissa tells her that the way she handled Scot in the dance training was not how she would have handled it.

Milana is glad Melissa didn’t pick her because she would have felt she was only picked because she was her friend and she wants to be picked because she deserves it.

Milana will not sacrifice her integrity to be the winner. Yeah that is because you won’t win. You HAVE to be competitive!

The committee debate who they should pick for the other two spots for the showdown.

Peter wanted to pick Max regardless because of what he did with Scot, teaching him how to dance. So he is glad Melissa picked Max.

Marquesa likes Alyssa and how she handled suggestions and criticism.

Shawn feels Scot was at the most disadvantaged in this challenge. He feels Scot stepped up.

Peter likes how Scot is always positive.

They all agree Scot is their favourite.

Peter says Gerald impressed him, how he listened to his captain and how he organized things.

Shawn wants to vote for him, but he thinks it may be for the wrong reason, in that he feels it’s Gerald’s only shot.

Marquessa suggest giving Shawn happy pills.

Shawn is still unsure if he can go with the selection of Gerald.

On that note another commercial break

Wow, Shawn is really harsh towards Gerald, but then again I can’t disagree with him about how this may be Gerald’s only “chance”

So it looks like it will be Scot and one of Gerald or Alyssa. Either way I think Scot is smarter then the rest and he will win against any of those three.

And we are back

Marquesa and Peter like how Scot admitted his weaknesses and he did his best to overcome them.

Scot sees his name on the list and calls down Gerald.

Gerald comes down and sees his name and is super happy.

The topic is biology.

Shawn finally says something nice about Gerald, how he “nailed” that challenge.

Max loves biology but there is no bio at his school because the only bio teacher left.

Gerald calls his family and tells them he is in the showdown.

Gerald also loves bio and he had it in his sophomore year.

Max starts to study, hoping to learn a year of bio in three hours.

Scot is not feeling confident about biology. He is worried he will make a fool of himself.

Jeremy is helping Max study.

Scot is trying to find the AP bio book, he seems panicked.

Scot says he needs help to finance his education as his family does not have the money.

And…another commercial.

Now it is time for the…

Admissions Showdown

Rob welcomes them and tells them that the winner gets $50,000 scholarship and a spot in the final 5 for a chance to win the full ride scholarship.

Alyssa thinks Scot will panic. Liz thinks Gerald will win.

The order is Scot then Gerald then Max.

Scot gets his question right about the nervous system.

Gerald is correct about how many chambers are in the heart.

Max is correctly knows the femur is the longest bone in the human body.

Scot is 2 for 2 with his answer of the digestive system.

Gerald gets another one right as he knows what an atery does.

Max stalls on what is an easy question… The dermis and epi-dermis. He guesses the brain. Of course it’s the skin. Wow what an idiot!! Has he not watched a Simpsons episode, “Hey Bart your epidermis is showing, you see I am right because the epidermis is your hair.”

Scot gets his question right and this is the first one I didn’t know.

Gerald….messes up. He guess joints but the answer is tendons to the question, what attaches bones to bones.

Why does Scot have to answer again? He went first.

Scot’s question: The abbreviation RNA stands for? (man that’s easy)

Ribonucleic acid…. and of course he gets it correct.

Scot wins the showdown which means a $50,000 scholarship and a spot in the final 5.

Scot is really happy, saying the $50,000 was his main goal.

I never took a biology class and the only question I didn’t know was the third one Scot got about carbs digesting in the mouth.

Max feels he will have to step up.

Scot is feeling a lot better about being able to afford college.

In scenes from next week there are scenes at what seems to be a dance club with Max and Alyssa getting very close. Also next week there is a community service challenge. There is some talk about one of the contestants running away from the kids. I am putting my money on Davis.
