[ECW] Notes on Weekend’s Big Events, Styles, More

Archive

Sunday night was not Joey Styles’ only contracted date for WWE, according to PWInsider.com. The rumor is that he has signed a multi-year deal that will likely have him working on ECW DVDs and footage for WWE’s SVOD service 24/7. You can read his full commentary on the experience at his Web site, 1Wrestling.com.

Also according to PWInsider.com:

– John Laurinaitis, Arn Anderson, Tony Garea, Ricky Steamboat, Gerald Brisco and Dave “Fit” Finley worked the ECW show as road agents, helping out if wrestlers wanted it prior to their matches. WWE regulars used the advice, a lot of the non-WWE contracted wrestlers mapped out their own, as did Lance Storm and Jericho. Johnny Ace – rather than the traditional Paul Heyman – gave a pre-show speech telling them they didn’t have to take undo risks, and thanking them.

– Most wrestlers of course wanted more time for their matches, but were happy to have so much time to spend with friends they hadn’t seen in a while, and many stayed at the same hotel. In fact, WWE and the Hardcore Homecoming folks split travel expenses for many of the workers.

– The wrestlers shown in the tribute to those who passed away were only those that died since ECW went out of business.

– The Musketeer and Tony DeVito were backstage at One Night Stand, saying hello. DeVito had worked the RoH show and was in town, and Muskateer had his gear, hoping to get a last-minute spot on the card, as he did at Hardcore Homecoming.

– Hardcore Homecoming issued a press release announcing they would cover The Blue Meanie’s medical bills.

– Photos from Hardcore Homecoming are posted at HardcoreHomecoming.com and of the One Night Stand PPV at ECW.com. You can buy the Forever Hardcore DVD at ForeverHardcore.net, and Hardcore Homecoming and ECW One Night Stand DVDs should be released soon.
