Well you know your a sweet little heartbreaker
….FOXXY…

Enter Milligan’s new creature – Foxx. What is she? Why is she here? Where did she come from? Is she cooler than X-23? Is she hotter than goth’d out hooker X-23?

Do we really give a damn?

Story!

Look – I spend a lot of time with the X-Men. Between Whedon, Claremont, Milligan, Hine, Vaughn, Millar, titles with X probably take up a good 40% of my monthly comic booty. There are times when I think that I’m ready for the next big thing, like when Austen finally gets booted and they bring in Milligan (who up ‘til now had been making waves with X-Statix) … but he has just not brought it to the table yet.

Foxx comes from the woods. That’s all we know. She is literally chased into the House That Xavier Built and brought to a team. Gambit’s team. Within seconds she’s undressing him with her eyes, and by the end of it (in what was a somewhat steamy little scene (no pun intended)) Gambit is left in a cold shower.

Yes, I mean that literally.

Throughout the rest, we are given more into the problems between Iceman and Havok who are, like any good average guy – fighting over the craziest bitch in the litter. Oh, and Rogue and Gambit can’t touch each other. (A plot point that has been solved and retconned more times than I can count)

So what’s the problem here? I really think it has to do with the fact that Milligan’s X-Men reads like it’s missing something very important. I’m not even sure what it is entirely, but every time I read one of his books – there is something going on in the gutters that I have to read twice to realize what I missed.

His characterizations are fine, I’m just not finding anything remotely interesting about the plots he’s given so far. I’m starting to lose hope.

ART!

Larocca does fine except for one minor point. Foxxy is supposed to be a character who is pure and unadulterated sex appeal – yet her first real appearance, she looks kinda dumpy. It isn’t until the last scene of the book that she looks remotely attractive.

When one of the characters calls the new girl a ‘sex doll’ – I want to see the seduction of Emma. The innocence of Rogue. Even the blitzkrieg nutballz of Polaris. All I get is some blue hair (which can be quite hot), on a pale face (which can be quite hot) on a weird body frame and yellow eyes (not so hot).

Otherwise the art is fine.

OVERALL!

Starting on his second arc on the USS-X-Franchise, and Milligan still isn’t chewing names and kicking bubblegum. Why? I have no idea, but it’s starting to feel like he just doesn’t understand the X-Verse as well as we hoped he would.

That makes me sad. I really wanted to be happy about Milligan being here. I KNOW he can do it. I just don’t know why he ISN’T.
