Just to let you know, I’m focusing in on the new story here. I’m not going to pay much attention to the reprints in this issue. I’m doing that because new material is the reason we buy comics for the most part.
I must have misread something at some point about this issue. I thought most of it was new. But what we have here is 8 pages of new material. For 5 dollars. That’s something like 75 cents a page!

And those 8 pages are not even that great. What we have is a scene of new X-people in the danger room for the first time. But someone is hoodwinking them as to why they are really there.

It’s a quick scene, you’ll get through it within a minute or two. It’s well written, with some of the typical Joss Whedon dialogue flairs. But it’s the art that really is the selling point here. It’s by comics legend Neal Adams. His work in decades past is incredible, and is responsible for a lot of the art in comics you see today. But his art in this issue is somewhat lacking. It’s sketchy and looks a bit rushed. But hey, it’s nice to see a legend at work again.

The rest of the issue is filled with reprints of old (1960s) X-Men team ups. If you’re a fan of old comics, you’ve probably read them before. And if you’re not, these issues are not going to convert you. But I suppose it’s nice to have them. Interesting to see how the medium has changed.
This issue was a disappointment for me, it cost far too much, and had very little of worth in it. The best thing about it is the cover, by Dave Cockrum, another legend.
