The Scholar

Well so far two of the five spots in the final challenge are taken by Melissa and Scot. That leaves eight people to fight for three spots. This week those eight will be fighting to get one of the three spots in this week’s academic challenge.

I honestly believe that Davis and Jeremy both have a spot in the final five locked up. They have given both of them a lot of good editing. Jeremy being the “American Dream” and Davis being the spoiled cocky brat.

Previously on…

Things between Alyssa and Max are heating up. Melissa chooses Max over her friend Milana to go to the showdown. Scot wins the showdown.

The groups decide to have a slumber party and put question in a bowl for people to ask each other.

Melissa said she would hook up with Davis or Max if she were to hook up with a guy.

In response to the hottest body parts in the house, Max thinks that Alyssa has beautiful eyes and Melissa has a good bootie.

Melissa thinks Max is just plain sexy.

Captain’s Quiz

They have to solve a puzzle. There are four quadrants with different letters that form a word with one missing letter. So they have to find the one letter that each word is missing. They only have ten minutes.

Milana buzzed in first, Jeremy second. Milana had the correct letter and 3 of the 4 correct words. Jeremy did not get the correct letter.

Max got the correct letter and 3 of 4.

Correct letter was Y.

Milana and Max are team captains.

Amari feels bad that she is one of the only people not to win a captain’s challenge. Too bad her math sucks because only 6 people have won the captain’s challenge, there three others who have not won captain’s challenge.

We get a background about Milana and her family. She was not born in the US. She speaks Russian, I assume she is from Russia than. Milana came up with ideas to fight brain tumours from her stem cell research. Milana wants to go to med school but does not think it’s realistic for her to afford it.

Back at the house.
Amari says she feels likes the stupid one in the group. Other people have had all these great accomplishments. Including Davis who makes money throwing parties…uh I know a lot of people who do stuff like that, they aren’t Ivy League material. Davis will be a favourite of some frat, well until he realizes he is gay and hits on his frat mate. Than again, they might like that.

Amari starts to cry…aww…boo hoo…go home cry baby!

Commercial break… They show a teaser with Max’s team making some big mistakes and Shawn criticising them.

Amari calls home to lift her spirits. Ok so it looks like Amari gets her chance in the showdown this week.

Amari’s teacher talks about how smart and great Amari is. Amari is worried she will burden her single mother with university costs. Amari’s phone call home has given her the desire to be more aggressive.

Today’s Challenge…to give back.

They have to devise a positive and lasting plan,

Milana (Gold): Melissa

Max (Red): Davis

Gold: Scot

Red: Melissa

Liz

Gerald

Milana: Jeremy

Max: Amari

Max picks the Blazer safe haven for kids, Milana gets the remedial reading centre as their charities/non-profit groups to help out.

Gold Team. Jeremy feels he can connect to kids who need help reading. The teams goals are: improve the tutoring program, make a reading area, build a partition in the bathroom, renovate play area, get new books, build a food cabinet.

One of the kids mentions he doesn’t know what Emancipation Proclamation is but he heard it on South Park. It’s nice that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are better educating American youths about history than the school system is.

Red Team: They ask the kids what they like to do. The goals are: set up a reading program, get gardening supplies, musical instruments.

Davis takes the lead by talking to the administrators and get a tutoring program. Amari wants to make sure it’s a long-term commitment.

Ok prediction: Davis, Amari and Max in showdown. Davis wins.

The Gold Team to Wal-Mart to get supplies, only 6 hours left.

The Red team show at Wal-Mart but don’t seem to be in a rush. Max wants to get prizes for reading program.

Shawn is not too impressed with their shopping skills. Shawn is so the Simon Cowell of this show.

The Gold team is running around, whole the Red team is standing around.

Gold team starts to set up the reading area. They get the kids to help paint the area.

Davis and Amari start to plan the Red teams tutoring program by calling high schools.

Scot starts to do some construction work. He feels like everyone is asking him if he can get it done in time. The fact he is probably the only one who knows how to do manual labour should not be ignored, ok I know he is already in the finals but I want him to win the full scholarship.

Commercial time….teaser showing a mistake Scot made and shocked faces of Max and Davis to a question by the women grading them.

Gold team is worried they won’t finish. Milana says its Jeremy’s enthusiasm which got them through. Scot finishes the renovation of the play area.

Liz achieves getting the tutoring program going with USC volunteers. Melissa gets a school to donate old books to the program.

Amari and Davis get the reading program get up. Marquesa is impressed with what Amari did for the reading program.

Gold team finishes the reading room. They have finished the bathroom divider. Scot realizes there is a problem with the cabinet….but time is up. They failed to finish the food cabinet.

The Gold team gets some love from the kids they helped out and who helped them out.

The Red team gets a big thank you from the kids who enjoy the drums Max bought them.

Gold Team judgement.

They tell her how the kids helped them set everything up. She spots a hole in the play area. They gave $170 to help get someone to finish the cabinet they couldn’t finish.

Red Team judgement.

The kids seem really happy. Davis said he got bad vibes from the judge Lydia. Max said the kids did not help out directly, he wanted to keep it a surprise. The judge is not impressed that the youth were not involved in developing things.

Commercial break…teaser…the judge has a hard time choosing the winner. Max has two girls (obviously Alyssa and Melissa) vying for his attention at what looks like a dance club.

So I may be wrong as it looks like Gold team may have won. I think its crap they didn’t let them finish the cabinet. I mean it would probably take them all of 10 minutes to finish it. But I think they win regardless. Max got ripped for not involving the kids and they only got three goals accomplished versus five of the other group. The Red team spent too much time in Wal-Mart.

We are back to get the decision.

The host says everyone did a great job. Lydia says there were two approaches in ho she got to her judgement. Quality vs. Quantity. Max gets prop for quality over Milana’s quality. Milana gets the props for keeping the kids in involved. Milana gets reamed for back time management and leaving stuff undone.

Team Milana wins because of leadership.

So Milana gets a spot in the showdown.

I think the other two spots go to two of: Amari, Davis, Liz and Jeremy.

Scholarship Committee Debates:

Peter says his favourite is Alyssa because she works and he also thinks Jeremy is a workhouse. Shawn agrees on Jeremy. Shawn offers up Liz as a strong contender. Peter thinks she is a dark horse. Marquesa wants her to be more outgoing but feels she was the glue that held things together. Peter loves the long show and thinks Amari made a connection with the kids, Shawn agrees. Peter gives Davis credit for coming up with the idea but dock him for running away. Marquesa did not like Max’s leadership.

Peter says it is narrowed down to Amari, Alyssa, Liz and Jeremy.
Shawn wants to knock Alyssa off the list, partly for the Wal-Mart shopping debacle. Peter and Shawn put Amari first. So it’s down to Liz and Jeremy for the final spot.

Back at the house the group is going dancing and Milana is happy. Max says Melissa is flirting with him. Melissa says she would probably “play” Max anyway.

Max is worried he may do something stupid. He says he is attracted to both Alyssa and Melissa…can you say Elimi-date?

Davis and Liz are shown dancing in what is by far the WHITEST and worst dancing pair ever! Alyssa is all over him, grinding with him. Melissa starts dancing with Max. Melissa tells Max she saw him kissing Alyssa. Max is not sure what he should do, if he should go after Melissa or Alyssa. Hey how about trying to win the competition for the $250,000. Play both girls and use that to help you win the competition.

You may be have a high GPA Max but you have not paid attention to the Boston Rob lessons on how to compete on reality shows.

Commercial break…showdown finalists are revealed. Liz doesn’t look happy, but that may be due the topic for the showdown rather than her not being chosen.

The list for the showdown is put up…Milana, Amari and….. Liz.

African Geography is the subject.

Shawn says they chose Liz because they asked the people at the community centre who did the most work and everyone said Liz.

The girls are studying and soon become obsessed with the city/country Djibouti.

Melissa and Milana work together to help Milana study. Liz thinks she is good at memorising stuff.

Milana feels that she is not confident. From past shows that means she wins.

Amari calls her mom and tells her about the challenge. Amari feels confident about her chances.

Showdown

Each competitor talks about how this win would help their families and them.

Milana: Cairo is the capital of Egypt

Amari (laughing): Djibouti is the capital of…Djibouti.

Liz: Nairobi is the capital of Kenya.

M: Tripoli is the capital of Libya

A: Tunis…duh Tunisia!

L: Addis Abbaa (coolest name for a city ever), is the capital of Ethiopia

Another two rounds are shown super fast. The questions are super easy and through four rounds, no mistakes.

Commercial break.

So where are the tough questions? How about a trick one…what is the capital of Congo? So which one am I referring to? You will never know…hahaha.

And we are back.

M: Capital of Somalia…Mogadishu.
Yes a reference to Black Hawk Down…and it’s called “The Mog” not Mogadishu.

A: Luanda is the capital of Angola.

L: Lagos is in….oh man she doesn’t know it…haha…Algeria..WRONG! Nigeria..haha. Lagos is also another super cool city name. Yeah can you tell I am a geography geek?

Liz is out.

M: The city of Brazzaville is located on which river…the Congo River.

A: the Aswan Dam controls the flow of which river…duh…oh man she is gonna mess up…the Zambezi…Nope! It’s the Nile.

If Milana gets this she wins. I am still not sure why Milana needs to answer this right as she has answered more right questions then Amari. The person who goes first is at a disadvantage. They need to answer two more then the second person to win, whereas if Milana screwed up Amari would just have to get one question right.

M: Meru and Mombasa are cities in which E. African country…she guesses Malawi. Kenya is the right answer

Amari is still alive: The Gambia is border by the Atlantic Ocean and one country…name it. Guniea Biseau…Senegal is right.

M: The Kruger national park is located in the NE part of which country. South Africa….she is right.

Milana wins! She is in the final five and a $50,000 scholarship.

Amari thinks even though she didn’t win, she did well so she feels more confident.

Milana is pretty stoked about having $50k for her education. Do you think it’s a coincidence that a person not born in America won the geography test? Yeah just a little shot at Americans for not knowing the geography…lol.

Gerald thinks the next 7 days will be really tough on everyone.

Jeremy promises to play more strategic.

Next week…the students must make a movie. Alyssa loses her temper and gets call on it by the admissions committee. They show Davis potentially cheating on the captain’s challenge

Closing Credits: Milana calls her grandmother, she is talking to her in…Russian I guess. Her grandma starts to cry when she finds out Milana won the $50K.
