One of the most unlikely hits of the summer will return another day.

The WB has ordered a second season of its summer breakout “Beauty and the Geek,” which has been a big winner among the network’s core audience. The second season — which will have eight episodes, up from six — will air sometime during the 2005-06 season.

“‘Beauty and the Geek’ is a big win for The WB and our alternative programming team, and I couldn’t be prouder to order a second cycle of what has become our signature reality franchise,” says David Janollari, president of WB Entertainment. “[Creators Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg] have once again proven that they know exactly what the young adult audience is looking for in the reality arena.”

Goldberg, who also oversees MTV’s “Punk’d” with Kutcher, says their company, Katalyst, has already received “thousands” of requests to appear on the next installment of the show and promises “a huge leap creatively” for the next installment.

“Beauty and the Geek,” which pairs smart-but-socially-awkward guys and pretty-but-not-so-smart women for a series of contests, has scored decent ratings among The WB’s core audience of teenagers and young adults. It’s won its Wednesday time slot for the past two weeks in the persons 12-34 and adults 18-34 demographics and is increasing its total viewership.

Through its first three weeks, the show has averaged 3.8 million viewers, hitting a high of 4.5 million last week.
