Notorious: Minimum Wage! Yeah!

Well, I caught the debut episode of Morgan Spurlock’s new series, 30 Days, and was not surprised that I was throughly entertained throughout the duration. Unlike Super Size Me, it seemed Morgan was just more determined to fit in 30 days of action on minimum wage instead of overloading on facts and tidbits about the injustice of it all. It’s a compelling show, although the true test will come when the focus goes off Morgan and turns to real people trying outrageous things, like taking hormones to get buff and so on. Anyway, it’ll be a great way to get through the summer.

Speaking of summer shows, I’ve only been keeping up with Family Guy right now (One word: Firetrucks.), but I plan on catching up with American Dad, as well as The Dead Zone and the 4400. So you’ll have to excuse me if this column is a little bare this week.

But my general thinking is that The Dead Zone won’t be too exciting, simply because the writers seem to have quickly lapsed into the stage of the show where they kinda put the main storyline on the backburner as Johnny Smith continues to make himself a better person by solving crime after preventing horrible things from happening. I still don’t know what to think about the 4400 after that season premiere, but I’m thinking it’ll turn me around to it eventually.

Recent DVD purchases for myself include some Mystery Science Theater 3000, a Stephen Lynch DVD and Interstate 60, possibly the best straight-to-DVD movie I’ve ever seen. I got these all and more from DeepDiscountDVD, currently running a 20% off sale until the end of June or so. I won’t share any of the codes here, but they should be easy to find if you go to some of the DVD price search sites and so on.

Batman Begins is without a doubt my favorite Batman movie, and it was easy to guess that this would be so since Morgan Freeman, Christopher Nolan AND Christian Bale were involved. My friend that I went with couldn’t stop going nuts for Katie Holmes, but that’s just because she looked damn good throughout the film. There’s a lot of small bit parts that really go well, and I was almost positive I would have nightmares from some of the big scare parts of the movie (I lucked out). Definitely go see this, especially over Mr. and Mrs. Smith which seems to just be a movie featuring cocky smiles and ridiculous gun battles.

War of the Worlds seems to be the next movie for me, and I’m not feeling too great about that. The Day After Tomorrow kinda burned me, but as long as I see a matinee of it I don’t think it should be too hard on my wallet.

New White Stripes is pretty bare-bones in terms of production value, and is kinda hit-and-miss in parts. “Blue Orchid” and “My Doorbell” are my favorites. System of a Down remains the #1 album for me so far this year.

Wrestling-wise, SmackDown and Raw both seem to be going through stages of not good, although Smackdown should be pretty interesting with the addition of Hassan. By the way, Cena had no reason to go over Hassan. Period. They shouldn’t have even faced each other. Bad way for Hassan to go out.

Anyway, sorry that I went a little light on the television stuff this week, I promise to make up for it next week with some semi-detailed reviews on The Dead Zone, The 4400, American Dad, Family Guy, 30 Days and probably more.

Until then…
