WWE Smackdown for June 23rd, 2005. Taped from Tuscon, Arizona
Report by Brad Jennette, EXCLUSIVELY for www.insidepulse.com

Randy Orton is here. Cole and Tazz put Orton over as Legend Killer. Orton says he knew his reputation would proceed him even before he stepped foot in a Smackdown ring. Orton says many legends have bowed to his greatness like Mick Foley, Harley Race, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, and Chris Benoit. Orton says Taker took advantage of Orton’s injury and kept him from making history at Wrestlemania. They show the recap from last week of Randy Orton nailing Taker with the RKO and causing him to lose the No DQ match to JBL. Orton goads the fans into chanting for the Undertaker. Orton says he will have many more historic moments on Smackdown because of the RKO. Orton’s music hits…. and the light flicker! They show the clip from Wrestlemania 21 of Orton getting tombstoned over and over and over. Smoke fills the ring as the lights go completely out. When they come back on Taker is standing behind Orton menacingly. Taker goes after Orton but Orton bails. Orton goes up the ramp with the mic and says they are doing this on HIS terms. Taker says death waits for no one and he shoots a lighting bolt at Orton that nearly strikes Orton on the ramp.

Commercial break.

Joey Mercury v. Heidenreich
MNM’s entrance is quite possibly the best in the WWE right now. Heidenreich dominates early with a couple of hard whips and a backdrop. Heidenreich lariats Mercury down a few times. Nitro is able to get a cheap thumb to the eye behind the referee’s back. Mercury is able to capitalize with a neckbreaker for 2. Mercury punts Heidenreich in the ribs, then snapmares him into a knee drop for 2. Mercury slaps on a rear naked choke. Heidenreich powers out, but Mercury drops him with a clothesline. Mercury keeps up the assault, but Heidenreich hulks up and hits an atomic drop. Heidenreich clotheslines Mercury over the top rope as Melina gets on the apron. Melina slaps Heidenreich in the face, but Michelle McCool comes out and we have a CAAAAAAAAT FIIIIIIIGHT! The referee gets distracted with the cat fight (and rightfully so) and this allows Nitro to sneak in and superkick Heidenreich in the side of the head. The pin is academic as Heidenreich is nearly out cold.
Winner – Joey Mercury

Commercial break.

Earlier tonight, Rey Mysterio did an interview. He wants to hurt Eddy real bad.

Backstage, Melina is pissed! Melina challenges Michelle to a match next week! McCool will be known as McLoser next week.

Backstage, JBL meets up with Teddy Long as about the new Smackdown heavyweight championship. JBL tells Teddy to name him the champion of Smackdown because hs is Mr. Smackdown. Teddy says he is going to make an announcement about the Smackdown title and it will please JBL. JBL asks who the next draft pick is for Smackdown, but Teddy just rushes back into his office. JBL asks for the initials of the next draft pick but just gets the door slammed in his face for his troubles.

Commercial break.

Cruiserweight Championship Match: Chavo Guererro v. Paul London (c)
London and Chavo exchange leg kicks and we get a clean break in the corner. Chavo hits a deep arm drag and taunts London. They do some chain wrestling and Chavo gets a stiff uppercut. Chavo tries a backdrop, but London flips out and hits a standing rana. London hits his patented mule kick from the middle rope. Chavo bails to the outside and London starts to make a suicide dive to the outside…. but MARIACHI MUSIC HITS!!! SUPER CRAZY! JUVI! PSICOSIS! THEY RIDE OUT ON A LAWNMOWER!!! LMMFAO!!! They ride to the ring and Psicosis picks up Chavo and sends him into the steal steps! Psicosis with a tope hilo from the steel steps onto Chavo! London gets beatdown! Picture perfect moonsault onto London by Super Crazy! Guillotine legdrop by Psicosis onto London! Juvi is on the mic! They they are tired of working for us! Juvi tells the fans to “make fun of the Mexicans” and they do! Juvi says they have their Mexican limo and he points to the lawnmower. HAHA! Juvi says they are going to take over Mexico, take over America, and take over Smackdown’s cruiserweight division. They are MEXICOOLS!
Winner – No Contest

Commercial break.

JBL is in the ring. JBL says tonight he is downright giddy because he always wins. JBL says due to his victory over the Undertaker last week, he has given Teddy Long no choice by to name JBL the heavyweight champion of Smackdown! JBL says everyone in the arena now has a purpose, and that purpose is to bow at the feet of the WRESTLING…..GOD! Can you dig it, SUCKA?! Booker comes out and JBL says that he respects Booker and that Booker doesn’t need to bow at his feet. Booker snatches the mic from JBL. Booker says he doesn’t think anyone should be named champion, they should have to earn that right. Booker says JBL should get himself together and they can fight for the new Smackdown heavyweight champion. Now can you dig that sucka?!?!?!?! Here comes Chris Benoit! Benoit snatches the mic from JBL this time. Benoit says there is NOT going to be a one on one matchup for the title. Benoit proposes a JBL v. Booker T v. Benoit in a triple threat match for the Smackdown title. JBL goes and gets another mic and says he isn’t down with nothing and that he doesn’t even know what down means! No one can convince JBL that he doesn’t deserve to be named Smackdown champion. WELLLLLLLLL ITS THE BIG SHOW! Here comes the Big Show. Big Show grabs JBL’s third mic out of his hands. Big Show says JBL has two choices. Big Show says that JBL can either have a fatal four way with Show, Benoit, and Booker OR he can get the hell beat out of him right now. Here comes Smackdown GM Teddy Long. JBL sucks up to Long and Long grabs the mic out of JBL’s hands. Teddy says next week that JBL WILL be crowned the Smackdown champion….. IF he wins a special five way match for the title between Benoit, Show, Booker, JBL, and the UNDERTAKER. Teddy starts to walk off when all of a sudden…. AYAYLELEAYALELEALA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hassan AND Daivari come out. Hassan claims he the newest draft pick of Smackdown. Hassan says that he has been treated like a second class citizen, being forced to stay in Teddy dingy office while Teddy makes a title match WITHOUT his involvement. Hassan says he is different then all the men in the ring, he is BETTER. Hassan runs down Benoit, saying he never beat him on Raw. Hassan says Booker T is a five time LOSER. Hassan says he could beat Big Show ANY NIGHT OF THE WEEK. Hassan gets in JBL’s face and says he is a typical American, a big quitter. Teddy gets on the mic and says this isn’t Raw, its Smackdown and its the land of oppertunity. Teddy adds Hassan to next week’s title match, making it a six way elimination match. Teddy gets on the mic and says that Hassan wants his debut to be special, so Teddy makes Muhammed Hassan v. The Big Show…… NEXT!!

Commercial break.

Muhammed Hassan v. The Big Show
We are JIP with Show dominating Hassan. Big Show slaps Hassan on the chest as Cole informs us that Daivari was a part of the draft pick as a package deal. Show slaps Hassan on the chest again and Hassan bails from the ring. Big Show tosses Hassan back into the ring and chokes him with his boot. Matt Morgan casually strolls out to the ring and joins us for color commentary. Hassan comes back with hard right hands in the corner, but Show just shrugs him off. Big Show picks Hassan up in and holds him up there in a delayed vertical for a good 20 seconds. Show just slaps the ever living shit out of Hassan’s chest, sending him to the mat. Matt Morgan calls himself a verbal assassin! Big Show quiets the crowd and slaps Hassan AGAIN! Show avalanches Hassan in the corner and sends him down. Morgan gets involved with a chair, but Show punches it into his face as Daivari takes out the referee! Hassan gets the chair and just smashes into Show’s skull. Show no sells it and pushes Hassan into the corner. Hassan gets on the middle rope just as Show is picking up the chair. Hassan drops Show onto the chair throat first. Hassan covers and Nick Patrick makes the slow count for the 1-2-3!
Winner – Muhammed Hassan

Personally, this is how I would book Smackdown. Batista wins Hell in the Cell against HHH and then immediately gets drafted over to Smackdown. Teddy Long enters him into the match with his world title being the title up for grabs. Teddy will come out next week and inform the 6 people in the title match that their match isn’t for the Smackdown title, its for the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. Plus, then the titles make more sense with the World, US and Cruiserweight on Smackdown and the WWE, IC, and Women’s on RAW. Batista would outlast everyone and it would totally solidify him as your monster babyface champion. Batista would then pair off in a feud with JBL. Orton and Taker would feud. Hassan and Big Show would feud. Benoit would feud with the newly drafted Chris Jericho. Either way, Smackdown isn’t looking nearly as bad as it did a week or two ago.

Commercial break.

They recap the entire Eddy-Rey fued. Psycho Eddy is really really awesome by the way.

Backstage, the token minority interviewer walks up to Eddy, but Eddy stops him. No one thinks Eddy can beat Rey. Eddy says he doesn’t think Rey knows what Eddy is capable of.

Commercial break.

Eddy Guerrero v. Rey Mysterio
Eddy is nice a bruised from last week’s assault with the steel chair at the hands of Rey. A big “Eddy sucks” chant starts up right before the action starts. Lockup, Eddy powers Rey into the corner and the referee breaks them up. They chain wrestle and it ends in a standoff. They do another chain wrestling sequence and Rey finishes it with a quick snap armdrag. Eddy gets a quick drop toehold, but Rey regains his vertical base and Eddy breaks clean in the corner. They lockup and Eddy breaks clean AGAIN in the corner. Another “Eddy sucks” chant starts up. Eddy out wrestles Rey again, but Rey gets a reverse monkey flip throw off a leapfrog. Eddy bails to the outside, so Rey suicide plancha onto him as we take a commercial break.

Commercial break.

We come back with Rey hitting a snap legdrop for a quick 2. Rey grabs an abdominal stretch, injury the bruised area of Eddy’s abdominal. Eddy escapes with a hiptoss, but Rey quickly reapplied the move. Rey switches it to a reverse half-nelson, but Eddy powers out of it and sets Rey on the top rope. Eddy pretends to clean break, but then EDDY SNAPS! Eddy quickly dumps Rey to the outside and slams Rey’s head off the table 4 or 5 times, then throws him into the STEEEEEL steps. Eddy rolls back into the ring with a maniacal look in his eyes as we take another commercial break.

Commercial break.

Eddy is in total control. Eddy lands a vicious tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on Rey. Eddy STANDS ON REY’S FACE. Eddy hits the MURDERKILLDEATH powerbomb on Rey and Rey has the audacity to kick out at 2. Eddy covers again, but only gets 2. Eddy goes to a deep camel clutch putting some nasty torque on Rey’s back. Eddy drops an elbow on Rey’s back and then whips him into the corner hard (Rey does the Bret bump). Eddy chokes Rey while he grabs his trunks for leverage. Eddy slaps on a full nelson WITH a chokehold added in with the referee’s attention diverted. Eddy puts Rey in the corner beats the crap out of him. Eddy whips Rey into the corner, but Rey comes back with a desperation headscissors. Rey tries the 619, but Eddy just takes Rey’s head off with a lariat. Eddy hits another brutal backbreaker and covers for a long 2. Eddy is getting frusterated here. Eddy whips Rey into the ropes, and Rey pulls a bulldog out of his ass and both men are now down. Both men get up at 7 and we have a slugfest. Eddy thumbs Rey in the eyes, but Rey no sells it and comes back with a springboard crossbody for 2. Eddy hits the seated senton for 2. Rey climbs to the top for a moonsault, but Eddy crotches him on the top rope. Eddy hits the SUPLEX, SUPLEX, Rey flips out! Rey dropkicks Eddy into the ropes….. 619…. no! Eddy dodges it and finishes off the rolling vertials. Eddy climbs to the top rope. Frog Splash! Missed! Rey tries a cover…1…2…kickout! Eddy gets up first and he goes for a second MURDERKILLDEATH powerbomb, but Rey fights out of it and sends Eddy into the ropes. Rey hits the 619! Rey quickly follows it up with the springboard legdrop for the 1-2-3!
Winner – Rey Mysterio
