News Release – Third Group Of 8 Set For 'Canadian Idol'

Toronto, ON (June 27, 2005) – Canadian Idol is halfway through the Top 32 performance episodes, with 16 singers left to compete when Canadian Idol continues this Tuesday, June 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV. The third “Group of Eight,” – representing Calgary, Winnipeg, Mississauga, Toronto, Thornhill, Montreal and Burlington, Newfoundland – take to the stage in
an hour-long, eight-song, musical face-off.

Following the show, Canadians will vote for the competitor they wish to advance to the Top 10, with the results to be announced live (tape
delayed in the West) the next night, Wednesday, June 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV. Voting details can be found on the Canadian Idol website at
www.idol.ctv.ca.

Last week, Canadians cast 1.4 million votes following Canadian Idol’s second Top 32 performance episode, sending Nackawic’s Casey LeBlanc and Ottawa’s Emily Vinette to into the Canadian Idol Top 10. The stakes continue to be high in this Wednesday’s episode as the next eight competitors vie for two more spots up for grabs in the Top 10.

Meet Canadian Idol’s third Group of Eight:

*Diego Alvarez, 21, Montreal QC, Music Student
Currently a music student at Vanier College in Saint Laurent, Alvarez immigrated to Canada from Columbia at the age of 17. He loves his adopted
hometown of Montreal. “For every community and every individual there’s a place to fit in, to feel comfortable and at home,” he says.

*Giselle Correia, 26, Mississauga, ON, Makeup Artist
Giselle Correia has traveled around the world and dreams of taking her travels into outer space. She has been singing since the age of six. A make-up artist who likes to dance, camp and read, she loves all kinds of food, CSI and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

*Amber Fleury, 26, Calgary, AB, Paralegal
Amber Fleury’s first national television appearance was on The Tommy Hunter Show when she was 10. After winning a singing competition at 13, Amber recorded a CD and sang professionally before stopping to become a paralegal at a prestigious Calgary law firm.

*Rex Goudie, 19, Burlington, NL, Student / Part-time Mechanic
Rex Goudie began singing for his grandmother at the age of three. He now has a diverse taste in music ranging from Frank Sinatra to AC/DC. He
considers Canadian Idol a great opportunity. “I’m from a tiny port
community – not the best place for a guy to want to start a music career.”

*Michelle Madeira, 18, Mississauga, ON, University Student
Michelle Madeira began vocal training at 11 and has been singing in the local Portuguese community since she was 14. A first-year student at York University, Michelle “hates” shopping but loves soccer, yoga and chicken wings.

*Devika Mathur, 27, Toronto, ON, Radio DJ
Devika Mathur was born in Mumbai and immigrated to Canada in 2004. She’s been singing ever since she started to talk. A clinical psychologist,
Devika works as a DJ for a Toronto radio station and also teaches a course in Bollywood music at York University.

*Barrett Peitsch, 23, Winnipeg, MB, Manager/Bartender
Barrett Peitsch comes from a musical family; he plays the piano and also sings in church and at weddings. A commerce graduate from the University
of Manitoba, Barrett currently works as a bartender and manager at a Winnipeg restaurant.

*Barbra Preisman, 17, Thornhill, ON, Student
Barbra Preisman has transformed her idolization of Ella Fitzgerald into a never-seen-before jazz presence on Canadian Idol. Barbra is “dedicated
to Jazz” and also plays trumpet, loves to read, and is a trained figure skater. She likes to write music and poetry.
