News Release – "Canadian Hits" Theme Announced For First 'Idol' Top 10

Toronto, Ontario (July 18, 2005) – In what has become a yearly tradition, the first Canadian Idol Top 10 show tomorrow night will be dedicated to Canadian hits, CTV announced today. Broadcast live from Toronto’s John Bassett Theatre in front of a sold-out audience of over one thousand, the expanded, the 90-minute special episode airs on CTV Tuesday, July 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. CTV also announced today that American Idol winner Carrie Underwood will perform live on the Canadian Idol results show this Wednesday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. in all markets on CTV.

It’s a whole new ball game as the Canadian Idol Top 10 take to the stage together for the first time tomorrow night. Tuesday’s live “Canadian Hits” episode features an eclectic songbook of Canadian artists ranging from Shania Twain and Sarah McLachlan to BTO and Steppenwolf. The song list for tomorrow night’s show is as follows:

* Every Time I See Your Picture (Luba)

* With These Eyes (Roch Voisine)

* Born To Be Wild (Steppenwolf)

* Possession (Sarah McLachlan)

* Let It Rain (Amanda Marshall)

* Crying (k.d. lang)

* Believe in You (Amanda Marshall)

Tuesday’s episode will also prominently feature the hometowns of the Top 10 competitors in short biography segments shot on location. The ten competitors are: Daryl Brunt, 16, Sudbury, ON; Amber Fleury, 26, Calgary, AB; Rex Goudie, 19, Burlington, NL; Casey LeBlanc, 17, Nackawic, NB; Ashley Leitao, 18, Burnaby, BC; Melissa O’Neil, 17, Calgary, AB; Josh Palmer, 22, Saskatoon, SK; Suzi Rawn, 22, Kamloops, BC; Emily Vinette, 17, Ottawa, ON; and Aaron Walpole, 26, St. Thomas, ON.

On Wednesday night’s Canadian Idol results show, American Idol winner Carrie Underwood will perform her hit single Inside Your Heaven. The track entered Billboard’s Hot 100 and Pop 100 charts at Number One last month. The 21-year-old Oklahoma resident, who won the fourth American Idol crown on May 25, is currently touring North America with the American Idols Live tour.
