[WWE] Earl Hebner Fired

Archive

Referee Earl Hebner was fired by WWE on Monday for allegedly selling merchandise without permission. His brother Dave Hebner was also apparently involved but has not been fired.

Hebner had been with WWE since 1988 and became one of, if not the most famous referee ever after working the 1997 “Montreal Screwjob” match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, signaling for the bell in the “screwover” on Hart. WWE had since then made him the highest paid ref in the history of wrestling.
