[ROH] Who’s Going From ROH to WWE and Vice Versa?, ROH in Mainstream Press & More

PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson and WrestlingObserver.com’s Dave Meltzer are both reporting that Jamie Knoble (James Gibson) and Spanky (Brian Kendrick) have agreed to terms to return to WWE.

Jamie has said in the past that WWE released him for steroid-related reasons and told him to clean up and not go to TNA, and they would hopefully bring him back. Spanky asked for his release, and left WWE in January of 2004.

They are expected to finish up their indie committments, including dates for Ring of Honor. As reported on ROHWrestling.com:

– August 12th in Dayton will see the World Title on the line for the first time in a Four Way Elimination Match. The bout will put Punk vs. ROH Pure Champion Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels vs. James Gibson!!!

– The Tag Title matches are set for the Midwest. August 12th in Dayton will have new champions BJ Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs defending against Nigel McGuinness & Chad Collyer. The winners of this match will defend against James Gibson & Spanky the next night, August 13th, in Chicago.

– A grudge match has been signed for August 20th in Morristown, NJ. It will be a rematch of 6/12 “The Future Is Now” as James Gibson takes on Homicide. There has been a lot of bad blood brewing between these two. It started on 6/12 when Homicide defeated Gibson after a low blow and continued last weekend in Philadelphia when Homicide used a lariat with a chain wrapped around his arm to pin Gibson in a six man tag. Can Gibson get his revenge?

We’ll have more on this when it’s available, but as it stands now, there’s a chance that WWE could have the ROH Champ and Tag Team Champs under contract simultaneously.

In other ROH news, also from the promotion’s Web site:

– Prince Nana is ecstatic with the addition of Alex Shelley to The Embassy. Nana says The Embassy isn’t done adding new members and he will have a huge announcement in next week’s ROHwrestling.com Newswire. We will have more on Shelley joining The Embassy later this week.

– AJ Styles said he would like to team with members of Generation Next against The Embassy, however he is not a member of Gen Next.

– Jimmy Yang, formerly known as Akio in WWE, has signed on for some upcoming ROH dates in the fall and winter. We will have more details soon. Yang looks forward to competing with no limitations in ROH.

– ROH officials are very nervous at the fact that ROH World Champion CM Punk wrestled at Monday’s Raw tapings. It looks like Punk’s last ROH days are really coming up and ROH officials are afraid that he will leave with the World Title.

– The 10/2 event in Philadelphia featuring Kenta Kobashi will now have a 6pm belltime.

– Make sure to check ROH out in this week’s Entertainment Weekly with Harry Potter on the cover. It is on page 67. The story describes indy rock legend Bob Mould of Husker Du being very impressed with the 7/9 Ring Of Honor Manhattan event. ROH is gaining more and more acclaim from underground, well respected artists like Mould and Scott Kelly from Neurosis.
