[Beats] Hip-Hop on the Billboard Charts

Reigning over the Hip-Hop charts for another week is Def Jam’s newest emcee, Young Jeezy, at #4. His solo debut, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, is making a name for itself. According to Soundscan, Def Jam’s Snowman moved 85,288 more copies. His total numbers stand at 257,671 units.

Down one notch from last week at #8 is The Black Eyed Peas. Since releasing Monkey Business, Will.I.Am and the rest of the Peas have gotten the party started. One more week has passed and the Peas are still handling their biz. Monkey Business sold an additional 61,115 LPs taking its total to 967,280 units.

Further down at #12 is Wanted. Bow Wow’s buzzing in the news right now as he headlines the BET & Scream Heartthrob Tour. Bow’s latest single, “Like You,” with his girl Ciara, is also making some noise. His sales were up 5% this week selling 49,781 additional copies. To date, Wanted has sold 277,526 CDs.

Next up claiming the 17th slot is Mike Jones reppin’ hard for H-Town. Jones’ debut album, Who Is Mike Jones?, continues to gross in sales, week after week, as it nears platinum status. The Swishahouse rapper adds another 41,084 records to his total of 927,181 albums.

A few places down at #21 are the Ying Yang Twins. U.S.A.(United States of Atlanta) has another good week at the polls for the Twins. With the recent release of the new chopped-and-screwed version in stores, the Twins’ sales strike gold. Ying Tang has sold another 39,808 copies this week. U.S.A. totals at 500,380 units.

Moving on down to #28 is Missy Elliot. Misdemeanor’s The Cookbook is still a hot commodity on many shopping lists. Missy sold 31,793 additional LPs, taking her total to 360,505 copies sold.

In closing, 50 Cent adds to his piggy bank, Hustle & Flow keeps flowing and Slim Thug keeps on stacking. Holding down #30 is 50 Cent. The Massacre has consistently landed within the top 50 since dropping back in March. A new version is set to be released in September that will include a video for each track and an additional song. This week, The Massacre moved 31,006 more copies. 50’s total is at 4,200,608 LPs. Coming in at #35 is the Hustle & Flow soundtrack. The soundtrack remains on the charts because it definitely got some joints on it. Of course “DJay” (Terrence Howard) did his thing on “Whoop That Trick” and “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp.” The Hustle & Flow soundtrack pushed 28,264 more albums this week. Its numbers round off at 119,015 units to date. Lastly, in at #36 is Slim Thug. Here’s another Southern rapper doing it up big for Houston. Slim’s latest Already Platinum continues to stack this week; selling 27,725 units. To date he moved 243,450 copies.
