Wednesday 13 – Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead Review

Link: Wednesday 13

The Inside Pulse:
Member of both the Frankenstein Drag Queens to the Murderdolls, vocalist Wednesday 13 apparently feels the need to strike out on his own and make music completely different from his other two bands. You know, morbid hard rock. Because the other two… never mind. Regardless of the reasons why Mr. 13 decided to create an entirely new project, the album itself fills the niche left in a world where Rob Zombie is busy making movies instead of albums and Marilyn Manson has turned into a parody of himself. It’s far from original in every sense of the word, but there’s definitely a market out there. Just walk into any Hot Topic and see for yourself.

Positives:
It’s cheesy, campy fun, kind of like dressing in black and having a picnic in a cemetary. “Bad Things” is hilarious and catchy angst of the highest high-school order.

Negatives:
The schtick is thick atop some of the most bland hard rock ever. It’s not even spooky-ish music, just generic rock with “evil” lyrics.

Cross-breed:
Sum 41 with Rob Zombie’s rejected lyrics.

Reason to buy:
Your parents are super-Christian and you want them to send you away to Jesus Camp.
