InsidePulse’s WWE Velocity Report

Archive

– Well, I told everyone I would be back if the rumors were true and Velocity did indeed move over to WWE.com, and so the rumors were true, as HEAT and Velocity are both moved over.

– My apologies for getting this up late, I was experiencing technical problems concerning my computer and WWE.com’s broadcast. But at all rates, i’m here.

But wait, before we begin, i’ll go ahead and bring back Velocity TRIVIA since this is a special event and all, and this week’s question will be related to the topic, so here we go…

Q. WWE.com split this week’s Velocity into how many viewing parts?

A reminder that you should be sending answers as well as feedback to my NEW e-mail address, Mark.A.Neeley@gmail.com

I’ve also done away with SmackDown recaps in the reports. Life’s too short, right?

– Texas

– Josh “well, I guess commentating an online show is better than looking stupid doing backstage interviews” Matthews and Steve “phew, if they hadn’t of kept Velocity I would be working at McDonalds right now” Romero.

The start things off with Stacy Keibler being the ring announcer for the opening contest, which is nice. I still liked Torrie doing her Velocity ring announcing over the years though.

Nunzio & Vito v. Paul London & Brian Kendrick
I guess it’s safe to say London’s little heel run is over? Nunzio wins over the tieup with London and grabs a headlock. London gets him off but gets knocked down with a shoulder. London slows things down with a hammerlock and tags in Spanky. Kendrick hiptosses London on top of Nunzio resulting in a 2 count. Nunzio off the ropes and gets flipped by a back drop. Kendrick hits a drop kick setting up a cross body that gets 2. Nunzio goes protective and holds Kendrick down in the corner allowing Vito get sneak in cheap shots. Vito in now, who brawls Kendrick out of the corner and nails a lariot. He tags in Nunzio and the heels hit a double team hip toss on Kendrick. London comes in attempting to attack Nunzio which gets the refs attention and allows Vito and Nunzio to gang up on poor Spanky. Nunzio gets a dropkick for a near fall. Kendrick is able to make the lukewarm tag, and cleans Nunzio’s clock resulting in nailing the Dropsault but Nunzio got out at 2. Nunzio tries a whip reversal, but London scouts it out and takes Nunzio down, then hits the staning Shooting Star Press for 2. Vito interferes, so Kendrick interferes and attempts to take Vito out with the Sliced Bread #2, but Vito counters and pushed Kendrick out onto the apron. Kendrick preveals by skinning the cat on Vito. Vito however clothselines Kendrick out, but London from behinds shoves Vito out after him. London then turns around and gives London a spinning slam for 2. Nunzio sweeps London out by the legs and pins, while Vito from the apron gives Nunzio leverage for the 3 count pinfall.
Winners: Nunzio & Vito
**1/2, a solid opener but I am really starting to miss Nunzio’s solo career on Velocity besides teaming up with Vito every week. Good stuff out of Kendrick and London as always too.

Simon Dean v. Robbie Dober
Dean gets a SmackDown angle and still a Velocity match? Boo. Oh well, I guess i’m contradicting myself since i’m super-happy we’ve got Benoit in the main event.
Winner: Simon Dean
1/4*, but I have to admit that Dean looked perticulalrly good in this match. Be it a squash or not, Dean opened up the move variety and got a nice mix of technical as well as regular moves.

Chris Benoit v. William Regal
Matches like these make me proud to be watching WWE Velocity. Series of lockups results in Regal winning over a side headlock. Benoit gets an arm wringer, turns it into an arm bar and takes Regal down to the mat. They go to a test of strength, but Regal plays heel and kicks Benoit’s arms then flips him over with an arm wrench for a 2 count. Modified knee drop driven into Benoit’s face. They go with the test of strenght again, and this time Benoit retaliates and takes Regal over by the arm and adds mounted punches. Regal in the corner, and Benoit with headbuts and mudhole stomping. Benoit guides him to another corner for knife edge chops. Benoit keeps up the corner offense and then gets a release german suplex on Regal, so he bails and rolls outside. Benoit tries to follow it up with a baseball slide, but Regal scouts it and dodges it, then pulls him outside as well. Regal gets a suplex outside. Regal follows with a kick, then rolls him back inside. Regal goes to working over Benoit’s leg with a submission and then dropping the knee into it. Regal locks Benoit’s leg and keeps an elbow planted in Benoit’s face. Benoit fights to his feet and attempts an enzigiri, but can’t hit it, so Regal goes back to the leg lock. Regal cleanly breaks it but then does a similar hold, except this time driving the knee into his face. Benoit is able to build up some stamina to get out, so Regal switches and tries to lock in the Regal Stretch, but Benoit grabs a rope. Regal simply pulls him off and locks it in again, but with Benoit’s free leg he gets the rope with. Benoit gets up but gets kicked, but Benoit holds onto the ropes so no submission moves can be applied. Regal pulls him off and hits a backbreaker. Regal pounding Benoit’s back with knees, setting up Regal applying a Bow & Arrow. Benoit quickly counters to the Crossface, but Regal grabs the rope. Regal gets more knees and follows with a Fisherman’s suplex that gets 2, second pin attempt gets 2, and the third also gets 2. I thought Regal would have learned by now that the 3 pins don’t work. Regal lifts the leg but Benoit couters with an enzigiri. Benoit hits a dragon suplex with no pin, but instead locks in the crippler Crossface in which Regal TAPS immediately.
Winner: Chris Benoit
***1/4, all around good stuff if not a little dominated by Regal, but you really couldn’t ask for a better main event.

End of show.

Good show by Velocity this week and a good start for the online broadcast era. Lets just hope it holds up.

Thanks for joing me for another installment of Saturday Night Fever, and please be kind and go ahead and forward your feedback to (new address) Mark.A.Neeley@gmail.com
