You know, I was hoping that they’d leave the U.S., but with a Civil War reenactment coming up, I’m kinda thinking that it’s not happening this week. I am curious as to how the Roadblocks will play out though. Not worried about the Aiello and Linz teams trailing behind, as there’s lots of Race to go, and even good teams can have poor first legs – the key is surviving that first leg.

Before I give out my Philimination pick of the week, I should point out that the ‘word’ came about during one of the early races, and that CBS even markets a T-Shirt with the phrase. Twenty bucks… Cheap!!

Anyways, my Philimination pick is:

The Amazing Race 8, Episode 2 – How Do We Know We’re Not Going To Get Shot?

Previously on The Amazing Race, teams raced from New York to Pennsylvania, the Godlewski Family finished first, and the Black Family were sent packing. 9 families remain – who will be eliminated… next?

Opening Credits

We are in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the first Pit Stop in a race around the world (maybe). Teams here must stay for a mandatory rest period.

The Godlewski family, who were the first team to arrive, are the first to leave at 7:57am. They must travel 15 miles to Shoe House Road in York, PA. They think they need gas.

Gaghan family, 8:07. They think other teams see them as a threat now.

Weaver family, 8:08. They feel that they need to give 100%

Rogers family, 8:09. The dad is the leader.

Schroeder, 8:18. They don’t feel as prepared as they thought they were, but they’re learning.

The leading teams are gassing up and headed towards York. The Weavers are again asking God for help, which bugs the crap out of me.

Paolo, 8:21. Noone listens to Marion. Maybe because she nags ALL THE TIME, but that’s just my opinion.

Bransen, 8:24. Wally’s pleased at how his daughters have performed.

Aiello, 8:37. Tony’s willing to sacrifice for his family.

Linz, 8:45. They’re not gonna beat themselves up over their placing. And they’re wearing Bengals orange. Scary.

Gaghans are first to reach the Shoe. The clue tells them to find the reflecting pool in Washington, D.C. – over 100 miles away.

Schroeder and Godlewski families are next to the Shoe. Weavers are there shortly after.

Rogers arrive in fifth, and they head on I-30 East to I-83 South, where everyone else is heading to I-30 West.

Paolo, Bransen, Aiello and Linz reach the clue in short order.

Teams are all headed to D.C., except the Rogers family, who have headed the wrong way. The Linz family have learned from their mistakes, and have gotten a map of D.C. The Rogers family, meanwhile, have figured out that they’re going the wrong way. Whoops.

Back, and finally, the dad admits that he screwed up the directions. Meanwhile, Gaghan has reached D.C., as has Schroeder. They have trouble finding the clue box – because they’re at the wrong pool. Weaver and Godlewski find the right pool, and the cluebox. They’re told to find a nearby limousine and receive a briefcase to deliver to the Tidal Basin Jefferson Memorial.

Gaghan and Schroeder discover they’re at the wrong pool. Paolo reach the clue box third. Bransen, Aiello and Linz are now in D.C.

Schroeder and Linz get their clues and briefcases. Aiello get theirs shortly after.

Godlewski deliver their briefcase, and get the next clue – it’s a Roadblock. Who’s ready for a Covert Mission? Teams must find a Spy, and must exchange briefcases with a spy saying the correct response to a code phrase.

Paolo arrive at the Roadblock, and D.J. takes it. Godlewski get their clue. They’re told to drive to Middleburg, VA. Weaver arrive, Rebecca (I think) takes it, and finishes faster than D.J.

Paolo finally finish, as Schroeder arrive. Mark takes it.

Gaghan are still looking for the cluebox, as are Bransen. Aiello and Linz arrive, David and Nick take it – and are having way too much fun. Mark Schroeder completes the task. Paolo are looking for a gas station, and the mom uses the “I told you so” nag. David Aiello finishes the task.

Rogers finally reach D.C. as Gaghan are still looking for the cluebox by the pool.

Gaghan are at the Lincoln Memorial, and can’t find the cluebox. Rogers meet up with Gaghan, and Bransen discover they’re at the wrong pool. Eventually, Rogers and Gaghan do, too.

Gaghan reach the clue box first, followed by Bransen and Rogers. They get their briefcases.

Marion Paolo still hasn’t shut up. I’m sure D.J. wants to strangle her with his LiveStrong wristband.

Tammy Gaghan takes the Roadblock, and completes it just ahead of Nick.

Bransen arrive at the Roadblock, and Wally takes it. Rogers are still looking for it. Paolo are lost.

Godlewski and Weaver are well on their way, while Schroeder, Aiello, Gaghan and Linz are all stuck in traffic, so the Linz take a side road to try and gain some time. Wally finishes the Roadblock. Paolo and Bransen hit the traffic jam, and Wally suggests taking side roads. Rogers quickly finish the Roadblock.

Weaver arrive at Middleburg first and find a Detour:
Heat of the Battle – transport 5 wounded soldiers to a med station
Heat of the Night – roll a barrel of oil and fill twenty lights

Once teams are finished the Detour, they’ll get a flag and head to the Pit Stop. The last team to arrive may be eliminated.

Godlewski take Battle, as do Weaver, who switch to Night after seeing the difficulty carrying people brings.

Linz arrive, and take Battle.

Schroeder, Aiello and Bransen all arrive. Only Schroeder take Night. Weaver and Linz finish their tasks, but the Weavers are the first team to arrive. They’ve won a trip to Southampton, Bermuda.

Linz arrive second, and Godlewski third. Aiello are doing well, but surprisingly, Wally Bransen is having trouble carrying people.

Ad Break

Gaghans arrive, and decide to do Battle. Not smart. Schroeder have lit one candle so far. Bransen and Aiello are at 4 soldiers, and Schroeder finish the Detour. They arrive fourth.

Aiello and Bransen finish the Detours, and finish fifth and sixth, respectively. Gaghan are impressive, finishing the task and arriving seventh.

Paolo arrive and do Battle. This basically assures that Rogers is done. Rogers arrive, and decide on Battle, but they’re down two. After one, they decide to switch, which is smart. So we’ve got a Detour scramble, as Paolo is carrying, and Rogers is filling. Paolo finishes the task ahead of Rogers and finish in eighth.

The Rogers family is the last team to arrive, and they’ve been Philiminated from the Race. Denny steps up and takes the blame for his teams loss, as he should.

Next week, teams take a wild ride at NASA, and the Aiellos spin their wheels.
