In any book that Bendis writes, the first chapter of any arc is usually a lot of set up. And that’s exactly what happens here. As soon as things seem like they are picking up speed, it’s already the end of the issue.

That said, this is still an entertaining read. There has been this mystery for a few months as to just who Ronin is, and while it’s not quite revealed here, we are lead to believe that it is Elektra. If so, then I have to be a little disappointed. I don’t know who I was hoping for, but someone a little more obscure would have been better.

The issue cuts between the present and the past few days. The present story is where “Ronin” is involved in some mission in Japan. That story is full of so much action, and it’s where David Finch’s art really shines.

The story from the past few days is Captain America asking Daredevil for help. He declines to help the Avengers, but suggests someone who could help. Because of his close relationship with Elektra (and the fact that she shows up over in his own book this month) it seems clear that that is who Ronin is. This particular story is a little slow, and while I enjoy Bendis’ dialogue, I have to think it could have been done quicker.

None the less, I am excited for the next issue. I’m just hoping for something with a little more substance. I continue to enjoy this book, and I am delighted that it’s back on a regular schedule, but I just want more each month from it.
