Desperate Housewives – Recap – 2-2

Archive

Gonna try something a little different this week for Desperate Housewives, mostly in order to cut down on my workload since I do have an exam to study for.

Previously, on Desperate Housewives: Tom Scavo is the mommy of the family now, Susan’s ex-husband wants her back, Rex understands and forgives Bree before kicking the bucket, and Manslaughter Mike reveals to Susan that Zach is his son, which Susan can’t handle. Oh, and the Applewhites are holding the man of the house in shackles.

The paperboy drops Susan’s paper off in the middle of the street–not that he cares–but when Susan goes to get it, she notices her ex-husband Karl in front of Edie’s house, picking up the morning paper. Susan can’t believe that Karl is parading his sexcapades around in front of her, but Karl isn’t listening. Susan returns to her house, but not before being pestered by the paperboy. But when the paperboy goes off, Susan perfectly throws a newspaper into the spokes, sending the paperboy flying. Susan makes a friend out of Ida Greenberg in the process.

Tom has a system where he lets the mess accumulate for two days and then cleans it up, but Lynette suggests that Tom clean up the house TODAY since it is a complete mess. Lynette also points out that when Tom came home from work, it was clutter in the house. But Lynette is finding forks practically glued with sticky substances to plates.

Rex’s mother has low blood sugar as Bree and her pick up Rex’s final dry cleaning. Rex’s mother complains about having to wait for two minutes, but she manages to make a scene when she’s the one making other people wait.

Gabrielle has to bring checks to Carlos to sign, since he’s cut Gabrielle off from their bank account. Gabrielle has already gotten Carlos’ forgiveness, but she’s going to have to earn his trust. Gabrielle notes that being lonely for so long makes her want to be not so lonely anymore, and Carlos counters by saying that it’s comments like that that keep Gabrielle from Carlos’ money. Why are all rich men jerks? The same reason all beautiful women are bitches. They agree to meet at the same time tomorrow. How sweet.

Julie has known for a few months that Edie has been dating Karl, and Susan is upset about this, and even gets more upset when Julie tells her that Karl was the one who asked Edie out. Susan remembers Karl’s visit to tell Susan that he wants to get back together, but doesn’t share that with Julie.

The Applewhites have to listen to the man in the basement struggling against his shackles, and it’s making Matthew angry, so he decides to yell at the man down there about it, but the mother calls him back and tells him that part of the prisoner’s punishment is that he does not get talked to. Matthew doesn’t understand how she can tolerate it, but Mrs. Applewhite explains that it’s just a part of her life.

Carlos has a big emergency, and he’s freaked out about it. Richie has been saying some stuff to Carlos, but it’s not those kinds of words. Richie is threatening Carlos for $7,000 or Richie’s going to beat Carlos up. So Gabrielle has to give the money over to Richie’s girlfriend by tomorrow or Carlos is screwed. Gabrielle suggests that Carlos fight back–after all, he went to school on an athletic scholarship…but it was for golf. Right.

Susan has all of Mike’s pants, so he goes to fetch them from the garage. Mike asks Susan where they are in terms of the relationship, but Susan doesn’t know that answer since the guy who held her hostage is his son. Susan’s crazy about Mike though, so maybe they should keep it casual, instead of having Susan move on. Mike wants to know what that means. That means a movie. Maybe jogging. But Mike is thinking about something else. Susan cuts him off, though, so Mike just packs up his pants and goes home.

Rex’s mother is acting all sobby on the phone again, and it turns out she was talking to Bree’s electrician, who wanted to offer his condolences. But she just decided to hog the spotlight, which Bree notices. She does point out to Bree as well that she surpresses her emotions. And some even wonder if Bree is truly mourning Rex’s passing.

Gabrielle goes to hand over the money to Richie’s girlfriend, who throws a fit as soon as she sees the money. Gabrielle gathers the money from the ground and the Richie’s girlfriend reveals that the money was to be used for a boob job. She was going to do it if he came up with the money, but she obviously thought that Richie wasn’t going to be able to do it. Gabrielle asks if she’s going to do it, and then eyes the money that she’s rifling through. Gabrielle finally lies to Richie’s girlfriend, telling her that it’s her body and that she can do whatever she wants with it. That convinces Richie’s girl long enough for Gabrielle to snatch the money away before it can go to waste.

Lynette returns from work to see that the house is still a mess, and that Tom has done nothing to change this. Tom is falling behind on his housework, but he’ll make up for it tomorrow, as his system is flexible. Lynette is sleeping in baby spit-up, though, so she wants to change the sheets, but Tom fights this to the bitter end, as they fight over the sheets. Lynette finally storms out to sleep in the living room, and tries to think of a way to bend Tom to her will. Lynette returns home the next day to an empty house, and setting a rat free in the house for some dumb reason.

Susan catches up with Mrs. Applewhite outside her home, and asks Betty about some noises that Susan has been hearing lately. Susan assumes that it’s remodeling, but it’s not that. Mrs. Applewhite hasn’t noticed anything, and then Susan hears the clanging. Betty mentions that Matthew is very handy, and that he’s something of an insomniac. Too bad he’s not in the house as the noises are happening. Betty cuts the conversation off there.

Bree’s insurance company isn’t really getting along with the payout on Rex’s policy. His unexpected death raises a lot of questions, though, and Lynette arrives to break up this conversation. Rex’s mother turns on the waterworks again, and Lynette’s attention, sure enough, turns to Phyllis. Bree decides to slap some sense into Phyllis and keep her from taking the spotlight, putting Rex’s mother into shock. Lynette forgot what she was going to say, and then awkwardly walks away. Bree is ready to order, but his mother-in-law is still shocked.

Rex’s doctor isn’t so sure about Rex’s death, because of Rex’s note about understanding what Bree did and forgiving her. Bree is doing some lawn work…when George the Pharmacist arrives. George is hear to kidnap Bree, and take her bowling. Or to the movies or for a frozen yogurt, whatever Bree wants. George thinks it’ll help if Bree gets out and does something, but Bree just isn’t ready for that. She appreciates that George is trying though, and George hugs Bree, finally getting some emotion out of her. Rex’s mother notices this, though.

Carlos got beat up by Richie, because she didn’t take the money for the boob job. But Carlos wants Gabrielle to force the money into Rita’s hands so that she can get jugs the size of Texas. Gabrielle points out that she and Rita shouldn’t be controlled by their husbands in prison. Carlos offers to write out a check for some cash, but Gabrielle wants to be the one to write the checks. And Carlos isn’t in the position to argue this.

Edie is rollerskating in a slutty outfit as she apologizes to Susan for banging her ex. She never thought anything would happen with Karl, but Susan really doesn’t want to hear Edie’s apology. Susan is given an opportunity to rip into Edie, but Susan doesn’t want to. Edie probably shouldn’t tell Susan this, but Karl had the best sex ever in Edie’s jacuzzi. So Susan decides to share with Edie that Karl’s still in love with her. Susan drives off, but Edie catches up and wants Susan to apologize, and mentions that word has gotten out about Susan and Mike, but Edie tries to get away, so Susan backs up her car…and runs over Edie. Why?

Karl goes over to Susan’s and wonders about Susan’s conversation with Karl earlier last season, so Karl is wondering if Susan is jealous. Karl then says that Edie and Karl have agreed to live together. Susan wants to know if Karl is in love with Edie, but she wants to be happy before Karl and Edie are happy. Karl has heard that they were having problems and wonders if it’s over between Susan and Mike, but Susan doesn’t know because it’s really complicated. Is Karl in love with Edie? Karl doesn’t know, but he’s never loved another woman the way he loved Susan. Karl may have walked out on Susan, but look how far he got. He lives right up the street.

Lynette arrives home and one of her kids announces that Tom found a rat. Lynette walks in to find a very clean house, as Tom was disgusted by the rat and decided to kill it, but not with the first blow. Lynette walks out and apologizes to the dead rat in the trash can for having it being dead, and tips her hat to the rat for improving their marriage. Weird scene.

Mrs. Applewhite is in therapy, explaining that her son was murdered by Virgil, her husband, after spilling soda on the new carpet. She is getting tired of trying to escape the past, so the therapist provides some more drugs for Betty. There was retribution for the murder, though. Betty made sure of that.

Bree is off to see Rex’s lawyer to see some details in his will, but first Bree apologizes for slapping Phyllis. Phyllis forgives her since they’re family and it’s been a big burden on everyone. Phyllis then reveals to the insurance agent that Bree has a boyfriend. Whoops.

And the only important thing from the closing montage is that Betty is splitting the pills from her prescription to put in her husband’s food before delivering it to the basement. And the insurance agent taking pictures of Bree and George.
