Deftones – B-Sides & Rarities Review

Link: Deftones

The Inside Pulse:
The Deftones are one of the biggest metal bands in the world to date. Pumping out critically acclaimed album one after another, they’ve decided to give an album to the fans of b-sides, rarities, and covers as well as DVD with every single one of their videos on it. On the outside, this is a tremendous compilation and is being used a bridge before their next release.

Positives:
The Deftones have a knack for taking what would be oddball covers and turning them into amazing versions that they could truly call their own. With covers ranging from the Cure to Duran Duran to Helmet to even Sade, the Cocteau Twins, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, this collection has their finest covers. As well, they have put on some songs that were only available overseas on singles, such as “Crenshaw Punch/I’ll Throw Rocks At You” and “Please Please Let Me Get What I Want”. Furthermore, they’ve added a few acoustic tracks of existing songs and b-sides from both Around The Fur and White Pony

Negatives:
While the track listing is amazing, it would have been cool to add a few songs from their unsigned days, such as “Venison”, “Hump”, “Like Linus” and so on. I get why they didn’t, but it could have added another dimension to what is a tremendous track listing.

Cross-breed:
The Deftones sit in a world by themselves. Generally being credited with bring in the nu-metal movement along with Korn, they’ve been able to transcend that genre and last, unlike many nu-metal bands.

Reason to buy:
If you’re a Deftones fan, this is a must to purchase. If you’re kinda into the Deftones, this is a great album to pick up to be able to get a grander scale of what they are able to do.
