The National Wrestling Alliance held its annual meeting in Nashville,
TN on October 7-8. Members refereed to the meeting as “historic” for
the 57 year old organization that sanctions wrestling promotions and
brands merchandise and other items. As the late Gordon Solie said,
“The NWA is the oldest and largest sanctioning body in professional
wrestling.”

At the meeting a new operating agreement was voted by the
organization. In one key and major change, NWA legal council BOB
TROBICH became the organization’s EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, reporting to the
Membership through a newly elected Board of Directors. Elected to the
new Board were Ed Chuman (NWA Midwest), Mike Porter (NWA Main Event),
Danny McClain (NWA Battle Zone), David Marquez (NWA New Japan), Alvin
Minnick (NWA Mid-South), and Rick O’Brien (NWA Virginia). The titles
of President and Vice-President were eliminated. Trobich, who is based
in Charlotte, NC, will be the primary contact and decision maker for
all NWA business. The organization also retained Kevin Thomas to serve
as the organizations accountant.

The organization also decided to eliminate the shows that had been
promoted by the hosting Member for the last few years and will instead
meet annually for three days in October at location decided by the
Members with all arrangements coordinated by the Membership rather
than an individual member hosting. Both Las Vegas and Atlantic City
have been suggested for the 2006 meetings.

After co-pomoting several shows NWA New Japan Wrestling added Italy to
its NWA territory.

NWA Main Event’s Mike Porter and NWA Top Rope’s Mike Sircy promoted
shows throughout the weekend in Lebanon, Springfield, and Nashville.
Appearing over the three days were TNA stars Abyss, BG James, NWA
World Tag Team Champions, The Naturals, Team Canada’s Eric Young,
Cassidy Reilly, plus Tracy Smothers, James E Cornette, and wrestlers
representing nearly all of the NWA Member and Associate promotions.
TNA’s Terry Taylor was in attendance at the Saturday show.

On Saturday, 10/8 at the Nashville Fairgrounds show the NWA HALL OF
FAME was established and the first six inductees were named. Honored
were promoters, Sam Muchnick and Jim Barnett, former champions, Lou
Thesz and Harley Race, legendary wrestling announcer, Gordon Solie,
and manager James E Cornette.

The NWA World Tag Team Champions the Naturals defended their title
against Eric Young and Cassidy Reilly with the belt held up on Friday
night. The Natural defeated Young and Reilly on Saturday to retain
their titles. JT Wolfen’s 2 year reign as NWA North American Champion
ended when he was defeated Saturday night by NWA CWFL’s Tommy Marr.
NWA Mid-South’s Ricky Murdock regained the NWA National Title
defeating both Conscious and The Juggulator. The title had been
declared vacant when Spyder was unable to make it to the Saturday
event. Christie Ricci of NWA Main Event became the new NWA World
Women’s Champion defeating Lexie Fyfe (Champion) and Tasha Simone.
Chris Escobar & Shane Falco of NWA Virginia defeated Daron Smyth and
Tim Warcloud to become new NWA North American Tag Champions.

All in all it was an event filled weekend.
