The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

It seems that everybody this week had a cool story about how they braved the weather or alcohol or bad computers or something that would affect their writing. But yet..they still got their stuff in on time. So what about me? Do I have a story to tell? Kinda.

I had to brave two dogs rolling around in the living room and thus..one dog knocking over a drink (alcoholic) that was sitting next to my laptop! Did sparks fly? No..lucky it barely got spilled onto the laptop..so no sparks. It would have been a better story, but I wouldn’t be able to write this now. Actually..that could be a lie. I am sure I could borrow a laptop from someone I know or use a public computer. But who wants to do that? Not me. The only side effects of that was that a few of the keys are now sticky underneath. (Spare me the jokes)

So there you go. There is my story. But have no fear..I am here! Here to once again..bring you the best and all the rest of Pulse TV this past week! Dig in deep in your seats and open your eyes. Clean your contacts or glasses if you have to..whatever you need to do..but get ready to go on the ride of your week! Until the weekend..of course.

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“My father was a quitter, my grandfather was a quitter, I was raised to give up. It’s one of the few things I do well.”George Costanza

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. Everyone Has a Story (Part 1)

Mathan Erhardt’s remote is still working, so he watched a bunch of shows this week again. He also talks about the On Demand feature on HBO. Also, the battle of the Oscars is settled and a battle of the Phils begins!

Romo’s World is back and he says that Thursday Night TV sucks! Ah..I disagree. Although, the only show I watch on Thursdays now is ‘The O.C.’, which Romo blasts as well. Yes..I admit that the first season was the best season. But the show still has potential. I just need to see how it goes this season. Then..we can go from there. But everyone should check out ‘Everybody Hates Chris’. That’s a funny show if you are bored with everything else on Thursdays.

Sarah Quigley talks about ‘The Apprentice’. It is the best reality show on TV according to her. So she talks and talks about it. Sorry..you will get no ‘Survivor’ or ‘Amazing Race’ talk here. And no Martha either! It’s just the Donald! Sign Sarah up..Donny!

Matt Basilo braves the weather as he talks about ‘Lost’ as rain pours into his basement. He does mention that there is an error in ‘Prison Break’ already. But the rest is all about ‘Lost’. That is why I don’t even begin to discuss this show. I watch it, but others will break down every episode and every detail for me..therefore I don’t have to. So check that out..NOW!

Dora Malone is up late and bored. So she talks about ‘Survivor’ this week again. And that is all she talks about. Hey Dora..that REALLY pisses me off. Not like you care, but I do! So there. Wait..I don’t care, so whatever. But you should care, because you know what boredom can do to a brain. See what it did to Dora’s!

Dan Wentzel has some ‘Survivor’ talk for you this week. He talks about episodes 3 and 4. So after reading that..you shouldn’t be complaining that you have not heard anyone say anything about ‘Survivor’. Because he covers all the bases and then some.

Farah Syed wants more chicks that kick ass on ‘Supernatural’. Men can’t have all the fun saving women. How about some women saving themselves? Interesting thought, but I don’t know. I kid..I kid. Please don’t hurt me Farah!

Murtz is back with a conversation with the second person eliminated from ‘The Apprentice: Martha Stewart’. He was too nice for the show or something like that. You don’t want to miss this chat!

Patrick Gilchriest makes sure you have nothing to complain about..seriously. As far as ‘Survivor’ goes..we got you covered. Patrick gives his eyes a good look as he gives his thoughts on the show.

Kevin Wong talks about a little bit of everything this week. That includes ‘Survivor’..of course and some ‘Amazing Race’ too. And a DVD recommendation and everything else is a secret. I can’t tell you. It’s top secret. You just have to read for yourself!

Recaps a.k.a. Everyone Has a Story (Part 2)!!

John Duran’s recaps of ‘Lost’ won’t get lost in the shuffle. They are right here and here. Check those out!

Shaun Stidham has an alias. That is being the guy who recaps ‘Alias’. See how it all comes together? Yeah..so the newest episode is here for your reading eyes!

Matt Basilo is no small man, but he does live in ‘Smallville’..but only when he recaps that show. Although, I have never seen him nor know where he lives..so I could be wrong on both accounts. But not the recap. The recap is correct! Go now!

Patrick Puhl has the newest episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. Finally..did watch this show and this episode and it’s not too bad. Probably..be watching more of it over the coming weeks since it’s MUST see Sunday night TV to someone I know. He also has the next episode of ‘America’s Next Top Model. Check those out!

John Duran comes back and has the third episode of ‘Desperate Housewives’. Seen it as well as mentioned above. It grows on you.

Paul Meekin subs for Kevin this week on the latest episode of ‘The Amazing Race’. He had to do it from an old laptop with a modem too..so you need to check that old. You can smell the oldness! He got things back in order for ‘The Apprentice’ as he did that LIVE for you!

Joey Hart has the fifth episode of ‘The Biggest Loser’. Seen it..now you read about it!

Kevin Wong has some more Numb3rs for you. A little late, but it’s okay. He has issues. Which is why he also has the recap of ‘The Apprentice: Martha’ this week. Paul and Kevin did an exchange. See how Kevin did with the show!

Tim Stevens has got your ‘Nip/Tuck’ fix for you here. You see..they fix people up and Tim has your fix. Get it? Anyways..it takes time to heal. True, but it doesn’t take FOREVER!

Sarah Jane Correia has your next episode of ‘Survivor’. Yeah..we all saw it..but read what she has to say as it happens!

Craig Russell and the girls are back in town. It’s the fifth episode of ‘Gilmore Girls’.

Trevor MacKay invades your computer screen with the fourth episode of ‘Invasion’!

This week we only had two DVD reviews and one was by me. Yay!

Robert Sutton goes cartoon crazy. He goes back in time to review Transformers Cybertron: A New Beginning. That’s no lie. I don’t know if anyone wants to watch that. Robert did, though, and he might agree with me.

I, myself, have the review of Seasons 1 and 2 of Seinfeld on DVD. I will be doing Seasons #3 and #4 over the next few weeks probably. Well #3 for sure. Anyways..this is MUST SEE TV! It’s about nothing, but nothing is something! Check it out!

Celebrities, SPOILERS, and News a.k.a. Can We Get Some More..Please!!

Former ‘Apprentice’, John, has his comments on episode three of ‘The Apprentice’.

Murtz and former ‘Survivor’, Eliza, are back again for their thoughts on episode of four of ‘Survivor: Guatemala’.

Former ‘Apprentice’, Michael, is back as well to give his thoughts on ‘The Apprentice’.

Erin is back with her fashion review of ‘The Apprentice’.

Another former ‘Apprentice’, Nick has his thoughts as well. Check them out!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week I asked the question…”what do you think about baseball and FOX and the shows being put off for it?” Maybe I should have worded the question a little different as it asked a lot of things, but here are the results:

I LOVE FOX and baseball! Give me more baseball! – 2
I HATE FOX and baseball! Give me back my shows – 7
I LOVE FOX and HATE baseball! I will watch other shows! – 1
I HATE FOX and LOVE baseball! I’ll watch baseball over FOX shows! – 3
I don’t watch baseball or FOX! So I don’t care! – 0

The majority of the people agree with me. They hate baseball and hate FOX for putting off their shows for the baseball playoffs! So if you like the shows on FOX, you would rather see them than baseball. However, if didn’t like the shows to begin with, then you would rather watch baseball on FOX than the shows. So it’s pretty much what I thought.

Now to this week’s question, which has to do with what I will be talking about in a minute again. The question is…”what do you think about reality TV shows?” Do you like them or do you hate them? Do you like traditional sitcom and drama shows more than the reality shows? What do you think of them? It’s simple enough and you probably have been asked the question before. But I ask it again! You can vote here.

Time to Talk a.k.a. Is Reality Better Than Fiction?

Is real life better than fiction? Yes..I think so. Does that make reality TV shows better than traditional sitcom and drama shows? Yes..I think so. Well that is not always true. Some reality shows are just plain stupid! But the good ones can be a lot of fun and better than half the traditional TV shows. And the proof is in the pudding as they say. Reality shows have exploded onto the scene over the past 5 years or so. Everyone has one. Not everyone likes them. Some people HATE them. They would rather have regular shows back on TV. Some people even blame reality shows for cancelling some traditional shows. I don’t know about that, but it could be true. I mean with so many reality shows on TV..they could interfer with the ratings for competing shows. That could have an impact on whether new shows last or not.

Right now..the “king” of all reality shows is ‘Survivor’. That is what many people would say. That is true if you talk about reality game shows. But what about the one that started the new wave back in the 90’s. What about ‘The Real World’ on MTV? Yeah..it’s still around. Some would say that it has gone from reality to more scripted. I don’t think so. Not that much. That IS real life. That is what happens. Of course, more drama can come from the cameras being on you all the time. And especially in public places, since people want to be jerks and try to be on TV and stuff. So they stir things up and cause a lot of problems for the roommates.

It proves my point, though. Real life can be just as fun, funny, and dramatic as any TV show can. But don’t get me wrong. I used to like regular TV shows. Back in the 1990’s, I was all about the sitcoms. Most of them are on Nick-at-Nite now or on other channels. They were good entertainment. But now it’s all about the reality shows. I don’t watch ‘Survivor’, because of scheduling conflicts. I do watch ‘The Amazing Race’ and ‘The Biggest Loser’ and ‘The Real World’ and ‘Big Brother’ and ‘The Mole’, if they ever bring back that show. They always seem to get you addicted. I will be recapping ‘The Real World/Road Rules Challenge’ when it starts up again later this month as well.

I do watch my fair share of regular TV shows. More so now that I write for Inside Pulse. But I am more willing to give reality shows a try over regular shows. Why? Because with regular shows..you know what you are getting. You know the basic plot and the characters and you pretty much know where the show is going. Reality shows can be a bit different. You may know what the “goal” of the show is, but you may not know how they get there. It is like shopping at a major mall and shopping downtown. When you shop at a mall..you know what you are getting. You get the sense that you are “safe” there. The outside world can affect you. There are certain rules that need to be followed inside the mall. That is like watching traditional TV shows. You know what you are getting. It could change every now and then, but you see the same stores over and over again. Shopping downtown, on the other hand, is more exciting. You don’t know what can happen. There could be a surprise around every corner. Whether it be a drunk lying on the sidewalk or a drug dealer selling drugs down an alley..you never know. A clown could come running ouf of store with a bag full of money. That is like watching reality shows. They are a little crazy. You still get the same stuff at both places. You can still watch TV in any way you want. It just depends on how you want to live your life.

That may be why some people HATE reality shows. They don’t feel as “safe” watching them. Or maybe they see the same stuff in the “real world” every day, so why watch it on TV at night? Some think reality shows are what is wrong with the country. I could think of some other things before TV shows. My point is that it is all entertainment. I think there is room for both. Some reality shows are plain stupid and most people can see right through it. But the good ones like ‘Survivor’, ‘The Amazing Race’, ‘The Apprentice’, ‘Big Brother’, etc. have stuck around because they are entertaining and not too over the top.

The bottom line is making quality TV shows. That can be reality shows or it can be traditional shows. If the shows are good, then they are good. They will stick around. Yes..you will have some shows lose out before it got a fair chance. But just look at two new shows that have been praised by everyone. ‘My Name is Earl’ and ‘Everybody Hates Chris’. They both have gotten the go-ahead for a full season. Everyone thinks these two shows are funny and could last awhile. ‘My Name is Earl’ is on Tuesday nights at 8 pm (Central time). Guess what else comes on at the same time? ‘The Amazing Race’. And ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ is on Thursday at 7 pm (Central time)? You should know what is up against that show. If you don’t..it’s ‘Survivor’. Those are two powerhouse reality shows, but yet these two traditional shows are still good enough to bring in the viewers. So there you go. If the shows are good, then that is all they need. Great TV shows will win out in the end, whether it be reality or fiction. All I know is MY reality is better than fiction, but I can deal with both.

Okay..well that does it for me this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions is always welcome. Make sure to vote on the poll and read up on the week that was. You know what to do.

“When you are at the VERY bottom, it can only get better..you can ONLY go up!”

“I’m going to be hot before it gets hot!”

Finally..“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
