In a few weeks House of M will end…

And I will have to change my logo…

And ‘DeceHation’ doesn’t sound good…

Any suggestions on the column that breaks the internet into
two hundred and fifty-sixths.

Heya ladies and gentleman. Before we be gein, let me just throw out a quick scream to Inside Pulse’s newest writer. She’s so talented, and so wonderful, she realized that the only man in her life should be me. My fiancee’ Danielle O’Brien, who is now the star of Fangirl Ramblings. Go check it out and send her feedback.. god knows you don’t send it to me.

HA! ZING! WHIFF!

News.

CHO on CHO!
(Couresy of Newsarama)

Frank Cho is now a Marvel Boy until somewhere in the midst of 2008. That means that boobies at Marvel are going to look hot hot hot until then.

Already signed for a two parter in New Avengers, and some vague claims about working on other female superhero books – looks like Cho is here to stay at the House of Ideas, and given that his art is nice, easy to read, clean, and fun… I have no gripe.

Good luck Frank.

DOOOOOOOM… Hey.. one more time… DOOOOOOOOM!

“… Brubaker is looking to fill in large swaths of Doom’s history – things like explaining why a Eastern European was enrolled in an American university during the Cold War, among other things.

Week after week little tidbits of news come out about this story. It’s getting to the point where I feel as if I’m repeating myself on some of the Doom riffs I can do. Now though, we are getting sample pages and synapsis of story.

Each time they give me a new tidbit, I drool a little. Brubaker is going to be Marvel’s new go to guy, and this is going to be the start of what I think is going to be a Bendis-like legacy at the M.

Also in this interview, take note that there is some art from the book. I have no idea what is going on, but it looks great!

ANY JOKE I MAKE HERE WILL BE OFFENSIVE

The multi-year agreement will see the comics translated into a variety of languages throughout the region, with Teshkeel reporting availability of the Marvel editions will run from the Arabian Gulf to North Africa. Neither Teshkeel nor Marvel commented on any adjustment to content specific to the new marketplace.

As time needles on, comics are finally getting back to a place that we, the unwashed masses, have wanted them for years. Not to speak against the Distinguished Competition, but Marvel has had the right business model for years on this kind of thing. They are fighting to get comics back in the hands of kids. Their TPB release schedule is insanely rigid. Now they are hitting the world?

The only bad side to this is, two years from now, when searching through quarter bins – I can look forward to finding Wolverine in Yiddish…

HEY LOOK! A MAZDA CIVIC!
(Courtesy of Newsarama)

Over in one of my recent reviews, I commented that one of the funniest bits in the issue was that on page two, there is a Honda Civic Ad. If you read Marvel you’ve seen this eyesore at least once this month.

This week over at Newsarama’s Joe Friday column, where Quesada answers questions – he answered a question about the increase in adverts by stating:

We’ve heard the fans and we will make sure that their reading experience is the number one priority and not the ads. They will be seeing short and long-term resolutions in the next couple of weeks.

So expect your comics to be $4.99 by next week.

BIG EYES, SMALL MOUTH, MARVEL MANGAVERSE

“When we originally set out to build Marvel’s Mangaverse five years ago, the plan was to have Japanese creators do their takes on the classic Marvel characters. Now, with this Rings of Fate mini-series, I feel like things have come full circle!”

Do you remember that year or two where Spidey and X-Men had their own manga title? Well they are trying it again, but this time with a mini-series entitled Rings of Fire to test out the waters.

I enjoyed the first run through, although it wasn’t anything particularly amazing. With these new character designs.. all I can do is giggle like a little fan girl and go ‘SQUEEEE! OMFG! DEAD BY CUUUUUTE!’ and hope that my testicles are still there. I like that cute anime look.. what can I say.

OOOOooo COLUMN EXTENDING SOLICITATIONS!
(Courtesy of Newsarama)

The solicitations for January are out.. let’s look at some of my picks for the best of the best.. or at least the ones I can be snarky about.

ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR / X-MEN – Ultimate Mad Thinker is on the way, and = SHE = sounds fun as fun can be..

ULTIMATE X-MEN #66 – Sounds like Ultimate Rogue is coming back.. yet the cover screams Phoenix. I don’t know. Either way, this is where Bryan Singer should have been writing this issue, but Kirkman got the gig. Let’s see if he can hold his own.

SPIDER-MAN/BLACK CAT: EVIL THAT MEN DO #6 (of 6) – A moments pause for quiet reflection as the pale horse rides tonight.

X-STATIX PRESENTS: DEAD GIRL #1 (of 5) – Now that we got over that whole Kevin Smith joke.. let’s smile inwardly as Dead Girl and the X-Statix team makes their triumphant return!

MARVEL ZOMBIES #2 (of 5) – Continuing in the vein of awesome covers, Zombie #2 riffs on Avengers, and this book is guaranteed to at least make me chuckle. I know it will. What’s funnier than a dead Bucky… a dead Bucky with Cap eating his brains..

NEW AVENGERS #15 – The Avengers go public? You know I feel so silly not even realizing the potential of that story. Well since I’ve enjoyed New Avengers so far, I have no problem assuming I’ll enjoy this.

ASTONISHING X-MEN SAGA – They say this is their entire first 12 issues in one 48 page book. Now I am completely confused… unless of course the whole theory about decompressed storytelling is being proven before our very eyes.

CABLE/DEADPOOL #24 – First off.. Spidey shows up. Nice. Second off, you should read this book. I have nothing else to say.

SON OF M #2 (of 6) – Did I mention how much I love David Hine? I know I did over in my Colossus review… I love David Hine, and with his eye for continuity, Quicksilver meets his ex-wife! Wow, who remembered that?!

UNCANNY X-MEN #468 – I’m looking forward to this story, and the covers have been amazing too. I know it’s Claremont, and I regularly verbally berate him, but… well… I feel so dirty.

X-MEN #181 – Apparently Lorna went batshit crazy for a reason. Finally we find out why.. which hopefully will make me understand the last two years of comics. I doubt it.. but I put large hopes in small things.

X-MEN: THE 198 FILES – Hopefully this won’t ruin my gimmick of collecting the 198 names… bastards.

X-FACTOR #3 – A note on the description:
the only person who stands between a crippled Rictor and a would-be assassin is…Layla Miller? I predicted that LAST week! WHO IS THE MAN THE MAN WANTS TO BE!

POWERS #17 – Between the Clockwork Orange cover, and the description it seems that Deena is going towards the end of becoming a supervillain. It’s a great story potential, and it seems Powers is going to get even better.. how? I don’t know.

God I love solicitation week.

LET’S ALL GO TO THE MOVIES.. AND HAVE OURSELVES A SNKT!

/// X-3

James Marsden is back on the list. Expect at least one joke about Wolverine wanting to screw Jean now.

And if you didn’t know, the trailer will be appearing right before Kong. That does not in fact mean that you have to see Kong. Just wait til the next day when it’s all over the internet. I’ll put a link up…. probably.

FEEDBACK MEEE SEYMORE.. FEEDBACK ME ALL NIGHT LONG

Last week I mentioned that I got a letter in reference to my House of M review. Andy DiNunzio gave me permission to post his full letter with my full response. This is just two views on the entire House of M, and i would love to hear what other people think. I promise any letter sent with ANY sort of intelligence (or lack of it) will be posted. Just let me know that you don’t mind me posting it up… So – onto me cutting and pasting:

(Note some has been snipped due to size)

Jim, (Note: Call me Jamie.. grr)

The series has been good in that everyone thinks it was Magneto, and instead it was Quicksilver. Nobody suspected Pietro and it isn’t until they are confronted that the realization sets in. The series is well worth the price, because it is a great mystery and it resists the temptation to let “Internet Community” in on the secret, and see if they can generate the same sort of “buzz” around the series if everyone knows the outcome. I’ve found it equally as entertaining as the “Infinite Crisis” lead up. I only wish you and some of your fellow critics would give the writers the benefit of the doubt once in a while. It is easy to “Monday morning QB’ all of these series and comment on them. It is another to sit there and write them.

Thank you for your time, and I will continue to read your columns. The great thing about the Internet is that I can disagree, but will continue to read, just to see what you have to say.

Out here.

Now my response. Again, snipped for content…

My problem ISN’T with the plot of House of M. I LOVE the plot of House of M. As someone who sat and drooled over Age of Apoc, and then the hopeful return to AoA – alternate earth’s are my bread and butter. My problem is the pacing of House. I’m actually planning on doing a full retrospect on this, as I think I’ve more recently become the Inside Pulse Official Marvel Goon… but House of M 1 started very strong, with a very nice set-up to get you injected into the world. House of M #2 was no more than a glance towards the world as a whole. It was no plotting, no story. It was just glance after glance of the Tie-In books. It left me very upset with what could have easily been a suplemental to issue #1, or even a fine ending to #1 if they had made it a doublesize.

We then get into the meat and potatos of the story itself. Layla Miller and the team going forth to go and A) Find Charles & B) Stop Magneto. Again, these things, weren’t a problem. The problem I felt was that it took a very long time to get from point A to point B. Much lesser so than I found in a book like Identity Crisis. I felt as if I was being led down a path in ‘Crisis’ but with HoM I felt I knew exactly where they were going, but felt the need to take the scenic route. It’s a problem that many have with Bendis, and I seldom do. In the case of issue #5 (or was it 6?), where we lost a multitude of pages while they introduced the royal families – I felt gypped to some degree.

The Quicksilver reveal to me – you are correct – is prime, perfect, and exploits a semi-forgotten character in Pietro’s hugest character flaw. The line where he says, “You know.. I really liked being with the Avengers more than I ever said” is heart-wrenching! As is the scene with him and Magneto from #1.

WHO DO YOU AGREE WITH!?? Write me and we’ll talk.

Also, my co-columnist, referred to because he loves to ask me questions. soak1313 is back with a question about X-Factor:

Since i have not read squat of house of M do you think i would be lost when i pick up the new x-factor? because like you i was amazed by the madrox mini, and i really want to pick this up. no
need to print this one. i don’t want people to think we have some sort of deal or nothing. i just love the column.

Baah! You don’t have a deal.. plus this is a great question. My answer is.. I HAVE NO FLIPPIN IDEA! First off, Peter David is an excellent writer, and knows these characters from soup to nuts. So there is that, but it does seem to inherently involve Layla Miller who was a weird character invented in House of M.

I have a feeling the first arc is going to settle you back into things after the Madrox Mini, but there very well might be a few questions you’ll have that you will no doubt, ask me. Go ahead, I don’t mind. After which, it will get into the stories that Peter wants to tell. I would suggest grabbing it and suffering through the little in referencees so you can enjoy the story as a whole – I have no doubt that David will be laying out groundwork for subplots even at the ground floor.

LIKE RIC FLAIR SAYS… WOOOO!

Another column in the can, and I really have to say that the feedback and commentary that comes in has been motivating me to want to write an ASK A MARVEL column. Since I don’t have the worldly knowledge of someone like John Babos does with DC, I can only really just be a commentator… but I will enjoy doing that.

What do you think? Let us know.

Til next week – Hatton saying Make Yours Me.
