You know, for a silly novelty series based on a toyline and aimed at younger readers, Sean McKeever has managed to fit in quite a number of innovative crazy ideas into a four issue mini-series. We’ve seen gigantic Doombots, mind controlling mechanical mosquitoes, and best of all the Red Ronin. Now the ever resourceful Dr. Doom has one final ace up his sleeve, rather than send giant Doombots to fight the Mega Morphs, he’s converted the regular ones into intercontinental missiles that explode on contact. However Doom has to contend with a seriously angry Doctor Octopus who’s much more dangerous behind the controls of giant robot.

There’s explosions galore and lots of brightly colored inks, but the real highlight here is the bickering interplay between the two feuding Doctors. McKeever’s dialog is still plenty clever, and Lou Kang’s art is still pleasingly over-the-top. That said the novelty of seeing familiar heroes running about in giant robot versions of themselves is fleeting, so perhaps it’s for the best this series is ending after four issues before it wears out its welcome.

Younger fans of the toyline, and collectors of the series should both find something to enjoy in this series.
