[RAW] Jim Ross’ Replacement to Debut Tonight?

WWE.com has reported that Joey Styles was flown into San Diego to meet with WWE officials and that they’ll have an interview up with him after the meeting is over.

WrestlingObserver.com’s Dave Meltzer says that Styles — known as the voice of ECW, and co-owner of 1Wrestling.com — was flown “out of nowhere” to meet with Vince McMahon and Executive Producer Kevin Dunn today “about taking over as the lead announcer on Raw, and he may debut on tonight’s PPV.”

As of a few days ago, according to Meltzer, WWE didn’t want anything to do with Styles, but now that they have to drop the JR storyline due to Austin’s refusal to put over Coachman tonight — and JR’s job NOT being on the line in the Coach vs. Batista match — WWE feels Coach isn’t a viable long-term play-by-play option and Styles “is now believed by the company to be the only person that fans may accept in the Ross chair without a significant backlash.”

We’ll have more on this when it is available.
