The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

Well it is official! The ratings are in! And I don’t like to say “I told you so”, but FOX..I told you so! This year’s World Series was the lowest rated World Series EVER! Like EVER! That proves my point..baseball sucks! As far as watching it on TV..it does. Now I am pretty sure that the ratings for the World Series were probably a little better than the primetime shows that FOX would have aired. In fact, they were for the most part. But that didn’t mean that they always beat other networks in ratings. Sometimes they did, but about half of the time..they didn’t. We won’t know for sure until next week, but I do know that 7 other primetime shows on other networks beat game two of the World Series. Those included ‘C.S.I.’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘Lost’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, and ‘NCIS’. And another 7 shows beat game one of the World Series. Those included ‘Survivor’, ‘E.R.’, ‘Cold Case’, Law and Order: SVU’, and some others. So it will be interesting to see the ratings that FOX gets with its regularly scheduled programming as they return this week.

There are lots of reasons for why the World Series sucked in the ratings this year. But I think it’s because the freakin’ games happen late at night. People never get to watch the endings of the games and what is the point of that?! Nothing. I want to see the endings more than anything else! But oh well..that is FOX’s mistake. Maybe they will learn, but probably not. I would love it if ‘Prison Break’, ‘House’, and ‘The O.C.’ all came back and beat out the World Series games. Oh..that would be sweet! We shall see.

Have I mentioned yet..that it’s back! California..here I come! ‘The O.C.’ is back! And all the other FOX shows are back too, but California! Oh yeah! Okay..I am done now.

Alright..now that is out of the way. Lets talk more TV. And that means you start right here at Inside Pulse! We do TV right! Original or Extra Crispy..we got it all for your right here! Dig in and enjoy!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week I asked the question…”does family television still exist today?”. So here are the results:

YES! – 1
NO! – 2
YES, but NOT on the big networks (NBC/ABC/CBS/FOX/UPN/WB)! – 1
Family television never existed! – 0

Only four votes this week! What does that mean? Well it means that no one cares about family television more than likely. Which pretty much bumps up those “No” votes to about everyone. So that proves my point from last week. Family television doesn’t exist. If it does, no one cares enough about it to watch it! So there you go. I told you so!

Now to this week’s question. It’s about the Food Network. The question is..”do you watch it?” Simple enough. Go vote here and do it NOW!

Time to Talk a.k.a. Cable is King and Food Rocks!

I got to thinking the other day. And yes that may be a mistake, but I still was thinking. And I was thinking about how I like cable channels better than the BIG channels. You know..NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX. With all the talk about primetime and network television..I got to thinking that cable shows are so much better! About a month ago..I told everyone what my “go-to” channels are and they were mostly cable channels. You have MTV, Food Network, Comedy Central, VH1, ESPN, etc. I like most any show on those networks. Why? I don’t know..I just do. I actually watch more network television now since I got this job here at Inside Pulse. It is kinda my job..so I must do it. But I still go back to cable channels more times than not. They are just more fun..I suppose. They are not as serious..I guess. Probably because most cable channels are owned by the larger networks in a way. ESPN is connected to ABC. MTV is connected to CBS and so on. Since it’s cable..you can do more things because people pay for it. That is probably why I like them more.

But one channel has risen above the ashes and people are coming out of the closet for it now. That is the Food Network. It has made a star out of chefs and non-chefs. Rachel Ray, the crown jewel of the network, is not a chef. She just learned to cook from her mom, but yet..she is the star of the network. The most famous cook on that network behind Emeril. But why? Yes..she is cute, but she has a great personality too. Big networks are even taking notice. The news is that the great Oprah has helped Rachel get a show on a major network for next year. WOW! There you go. If that doesn’t tell you that people watch the Food Network now more than ever..I don’t know what does.

But why the Food Network? It’s a network about food. But it has become much more. Every show is still about food, but there are not just cooking shows anymore. It started out that way, but they are making new shows that bring the show “out of the kitchen” as they say. Rachel Ray goes to various cities around the world on her show..’$40-A-Day’. It combines two things I like to do, which are travel and eat! And eat while traveling! Fantastic! Then..you have shows like ‘Unwrapped’ and ‘Good Eats’ and ‘The Secret Life Of…’ that educate you about the foods you love!

I still think there may be some doubters out there, but trust me. If nothing else is on..flip it on over to the Food Network! You will probably get hooked and the next thing you know..you will be cooking up a storm! Well..you could be like me and think you can cook, but really can’t. It’s still fun to try. But you may be better off leaving it to the TV professionals.

Cable is king! Food is king! Network television has it’s moments, but it’s more fun on cable! I should be working for a cable network! Yeah..so if any executives out there are reading this..hook me up! Get me a job! I have my resume! Bring me to cable land! Food Network, MTV, ESPN..it doesn’t matter..I love cable! Okay..I will stop now.

Well that does it for me this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome. Make sure to vote on the poll and read up on the week that was. You know what to do.

“When you are at the VERY bottom, it can only get better..you can ONLY go up!”

“I’m going to be hot before it gets hot!”

Finally..“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
