Craploads of DC news, including the cancelled DCU titles and more 52 details [Details: Here]

KEVIN “TAXPAYER EXTRAORDINAIRE” MAHONEY: Egads. Way too much news there. FLASH is getting the axe and NIGHTWING’s art team is going away to Marvel? Kooky. Hopefully, FLASH will be rebooted and Wally West won’t die. (Can’t we just have Barry die again?). Anything that puts Nightwing out of his misery is 100% welcome. That title has been crap to read for what, two years? For the record regarding 52: $2.99 is way too much for a weekly story. I don’t care who is involved, I don’t care how many pages it is. If we’re buying it 4 times as often we readers/spenders ought to get a break. Really.

PAUL “WILLINGLY RETCONNED” SEBERT: GOTHAM CENTRAL is ending?…

*Extreme Slow Motion*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

DARON “BYRNE BONKER” KAPPAUFF: Wow…and to think I was trying to find reasons to actually get caught up on my reading, but with the cancellation of GOTHAM CENTRAL and FLASH… I just don’t know anymore.

TIM “KICKED OUT OF THE PERFECT PLEX” BYRNE: GOTHAM KNIGHTS, a.k.a. ‘The Hush Tales’ won’t be missed (apart from some scattered one-shots). But GOTHAM CENTRAL??? What??? How could TPTB have missed the opportunity for some quality selling trades…. GRRRR

And $2.99 per issue for 52? Every week? Ouch!

IAIN “ANGRY AND TIRED AND ANGRY AND TIRED AND ANGRY AND TIRED AND ANGRY AND TIRED AND AND AND AND SOMETHING OR OTHER, I FORGET, I REALLY SHOULD HAVE MADE A NOTE OF IT BEFORE IT ESCAPED MY MIND” BURNSIDE: Rumour has it that GOTHAM CENTRAL will be repackaged as STREETS OF GOTHAM, written by Rucka with most of the same cast…

So don’t leave yet Daron!

AQUAMAN TV show in the works for WB [Fish: Smell]

KEVIN MAHONEY: Not to be a total twit, but I’ll believe this when it’s on the air and not before. Let’s remember how long BoP was on the air people. Even given it actually makes it into the airwaves, how long before they do a crossover with the OC or another of those teen beach shows? Y’know… Crystal was mackin’ with Tyrell behind Abe’s back… when suddenly Black Manta attacks… and eats Abe’s left hand. Oh yeah, that’d get ratings. Sob.

PAUL SEBERT: Thankfully my inside sources have managed to get a hold of one of the classic iconic Aquaman comic stories to be adapted for Television.

You can check it out right here.

Rumours on new MS. MARVEL and ANT-MAN series [Fire: Burns]

KEVIN MAHONEY: Well, if it happens, fans of the characters will be impressed. If it doesn’t … well remember when Penn and Teller transported Dave Letterman’s Breitling into a lake trout? No one cared about the dead fish there either. I do wonder how the possible upcoming Ant Man series effects Hank Pym’s role in NEW THUNDERBOLTS though…

PAUL SEBERT: Hmmm a New Ant-Man? Well I guess maybe the third time is a charm on the only non-iconic Lee creation.

DC February solicitations released [List: Here]

IAIN BURNSIDE: Doesn’t look very promising for Wonder Woman…

“SHINY” COREN: I know Wonder Woman’s going to have something. DC has some sort of weird publishing deal, (or had, maybe it’s over now) where they have to put out a book featuring her every month or they lose the character.

And putting Bart as the lead of FLASH? The only reason I can see them doing that is because Wally’s in 52.

TIM “LIKE, BALD” STEVENS: Actually, the Wonder Woman thing, while once true, is no longer. So, technically, DC could not publish a Wonder Woman book. However, that would be crazy. It’ll be back lickety split, no doubt about it.

PAUL SEBERT: Ok on the downside GOTHAM CENTRAL is ending, NOOOOOOOOOOO!) they’re teasing the deaths of Cassandra Caine (NOOOOOOOOOO!), the sixth strait cover of Supergirl punching another superhero (NOOOOOOOOOO!), Bill Willingham remarkably still writing ROBIN (NOOOOOOOOOO!) and the end of WONDER WOMAN? (NOOOOOOOOOOO?!).

On the bright side there’s Jeff Matsuda’s BATGIRL, Space Cabbie in JLU, animated Doom Patrol, SUPERMAN ADVENTURES digests and best of all Frank Rock cuddling a puppy.

Uh, is it wrong that we’re going into one of the pivotal months of Inifinite Crisis and I’m looking more forward to the Johnny DC Books?

I’ll giver this month’s DC Previews a raiting of 2 digest trades out of a possible 5.

IAIN BURNSIDE: Supergirl continually making a point of punching other superheroes? A teenage girl continually making a point of being an obnoxious, irritating little know-it-all? Well.

PAUL SEBERT: Hey… I’d actually be happier if she was an obnoxious irritating little know-it-all because it would mean she actually had a personality, rather than the lifeless character who just seems to exist to get in pointless slugfests.

I really miss the PAD Supergirl.

MATT “DIRTY SHIRT” MORRISON: And I really miss Barbara Gordon walking. How is this relevant? DC isn’t rushing to make either one of us happy.

PAUL SEBERT: I see someone hasn’t been reading BIRDS OF PREY for the past few months…

MATT MORRISON: Uh… wiggling your toes does not equal walking. I’ve read Simone’s comments on this and she said that she is not trying to get Babs back into Batgirl territory (that’s not to say somebody else won’t do it elsewhere… we’ve all seen how well DC editorial plans together lately) and how her whole inspiration for Babs’ progress was due to her being inspired by reading about Christopher Reeves therapy and the fact that in the nearly two decades since THE KILLING JOKE nobody had done anything to suggest Babs is trying to heal herself in the traditional way.

Stan Lee swears in X3! A little piece of me dies inside! [More: Here]

MATT MORRISON: Right. All you Kevin Smith haters who complained about how Stan debased his image by appearing in Mallrats talking about how many chicks he banged? I expect just as much, if not more, anger and ranting about this.

New X-Men project in the works by Mike Meyhew… [More: Here]

MATT MORRISON: Yes. Because gods know we need another X-Men project now.

Famous Italian authors are working on graphic novels for Marvel… [More: Here]

MATT MORRISON: What? We don’t have enough famous American authors in need of a paycheck who are willing to crank out an X-Men project?

IAIN BURNSIDE: I don’t understand why Marvel don’t want to sign up an unknown, unpublished Scottish author for a comic book gig. Come get me, Joe!

Remember Buffy? Well, she’s back. In comic book form! [More: Here]

MATT MORRISON: I’d be more excited if it he were bringing Serenity back as a monthly comic. I needs more Firefly, dammit!

IAIN BURNSIDE: Buffy’s on her way… Angel and Spike are out already… Only a matter of time before Serenity flies again. At least, I hope so. Poor Wash!

– Marvel solicits for Feb ’06
http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/Feb_06/Feb06solicits.html

(Good to see the X-Men are getting Astonishing once again!)

PAUL SEBERT: Hmmm so this month we’ve got a bunch of Valentines themed I (heart) Marvel one-shots. Considering how consistantly entertaining the Halloween themed Marvel Monster books were I’ll give this a fair chance.

Oh and yay! Another Franklin Richards one-shot!

Also of note we also have a sex-ay looking DAUGHTERS OF THE DRAGON cover, a hillarious NEXT WAVE cover, the return of MUTANT 2099 in MTU, Ed Brubaker on DAREDEVIL, and Eric Jerome Dickey’s STORM mini.

On the down side, lots of the usual X-junk, and the addition of what’s shaping up to be 2006’s most inexplicable mini-series… APOCALYPSE/DRACULA by Frank “Weapon X” Tieri.

I’ll give this month’s Marvel Preivews a 3 out of 5.

KEVIN MAHONEY: More FRANKLIN RICHARDS: SON OF A GENIUS?! I am so there!
