Episode 2.11: Owner of a Lonely Heart (fka “Denny”)

The quints present a number of challenges, and so does their mother (Margaret Welsh), who’s depressed. The sickest infant is assigned to Izzie, who’s taught a painful lesson in doctoring from Addison. Izzie is also seething at Alex, who’s depressed because of a medical mistake he made. Meanwhile, George uses leeches to treat an avid outdoorsman with skin cancer; and a prisoner (Rosanna Arquette) swallows four razor blades to get a “vacation” from prison.
Cristina Yang has little sympathy for Constance Ferguson (special guest star Rosanna Arquette), a prison inmate who jeopardizes her health just to get out of solitary confinement.
A patient names Denny needs a machine to beats his heart for him. He talks with a female intern about pulling him (Denny) pulling the plug and wonders if the intern would be charged with murder by staying in the room if/when he would pull it. They make a few jokes and talk about the intern’s love life. The intern becomes friends with Denny, but the latter’s health is not improving. [Note: This could have been moved to another episode.]
