The Mother HipsRed Tandy EP

The Inside Pulse:
After taking 4 years off since their last outing, the Mother Hips are back with a teaser EP of what their self proclaimed rebirth has to offer. These California based psychedelic stoner rockers with over a decade and 5 full length albums to back them up show promise for a smooth, rich blend of good-times rock and roll. EPs are meant to tease and leave you wanting more. This one accomplishes that goal.

Positives:
They definitely show off a mellow edge to the genre. The music is strong but not too abrasive. The vocals are filled with warm ethereal harmonies that just feel right.

Negatives:
The title track isn’t even two and a half minutes. Did they forget to finish the song? I don’t think there is real need for the alternate version of “Red Tandy” on the EP.

Cross Breed:
Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Young, Tom Petty.

Reason to Buy:
If you’re already a fan, this EP doesn’t satisfy the need for a full length but it will definitely give you 15 minutes of good clean rock untouched by fads of commercialism.
