Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II – (Episode 2)

Cue the music..cue the entrances..cue the cool water scenes where everyone comes up through the water to the surface and they are dry as a bone! Those were the veterans and now the rookies are already on the beach and they fight it out…

We pick up right where we left off with Jo acting all crazy. Jo calls the police and says she is being attacked and manhandled. Julie calls her crazy, which everyone agrees with. Derrick says he didn’t do anything. He was sleeping, which means he passed out from drinking. He asks her what is wrong with her? No one knows. Ruthie calls her crazy now. The police come and escort her out of the place. Everyone jumps for joy! Alton says it sucks because they lost a team captain of the “Rookie” Team!

Time to move on. Time for a challenge. TJ informs us that Jo has quit and thus we need a new team captain for the “rookie girls”. The new captain is Kina as she was the last one with Jo. Kina is excited and nervous about being the captain. If they lose a mission, she will be in the gauntlet!

Now the challenge. The object of the game is to transfer a bunch of coconuts to a spot on the beach using two bamboo sticks to carry them. If they drop any coconuts, then they have to bring them back to where they start. The captain of the winning team gets a $1,000 Best Buy Gift Card! HOLY CRAP! What a prize! Sign me up for the next challenge! Best Buy is my favorite store! However, the losing team captain has to go to the gauntlet. It is a “male captain” day, which means that if the “rookies” lose, then Alton must go to the gauntlet. The same for Adam if the “veterans” lose.

Time to discuss strategy as we hear the teams talk. Brad says the “veterans” will let the boys go first to see how this challenge works. They can then tell the girls. Jodi says the “rookies” will mix the guys and girls together.

Blow the horn..it’s time to do this thing! Brad and David go first for the “veterans”, while Ibis and Alton go for the “rookies”. They drop a coconut. “Veterans” make it without any trouble and have 15. “Rookies” only have 5 after the first round. MJ and Jodi go next for the “rookies”. Mark and Syrus go for the “veterans”. MJ drops some coconuts. Not good at all. After the second round, it’s 28 to 9 in favor of the “veterans”. Adam and Timmy go for the “veterans”, while Landon and Jillian go for the “rookies. Jeremy and Jamie next for the “rookies”, while Ace and Derrick go for the “veterans”. The score is now 38 to 29 for the “veterans”. Kina and Adam next for the “rookies”, while Aneesa and Jisela go for the “veterans”. 85 to 80 now.

Adam says the mission looks good for them now, but the girls are walking so slow! Katie and Ruthie are going for the “veterans”, while Susie and Danny go for the “rookies”. “Rookies” take the lead now with a 111 to 92 score. They all yell at poor Katie now as there is confusion on who brings back the sticks. Cara and Randy are up for the “rookies”. Beth and Julie go for the “veterans”. The score is 134 to 120 for the “rookies”. Jeremy and Jamie go for the “rookies”, while Montana and Robin are up for the “veterans”. Brad and David go for “veterans”. Adam and Timmy are next for the “veterans”. Cara is worried that the “veterans” are putting more coconuts on their sticks. The score is still 171 to 152 for the “rookies”, however. Not anymore..171 to 170 for the “rookies” after Adam and Timmy drop theirs! Score changes again and it’s still a 1 point lead for the “rookies”. One trip left for both teams. Adam, from the “rookie” team, is thinking “don’t drop a coconut”. Thanks Adam for the insight! Beth and Julie go for the “veterans”. Jodi and MJ go for the “rookies”. That could be trouble, since they dropped some earlier. Cliffhanger!

Commercial time!

We are back and who will get across the line first? “Rookies” drops their first and they have 200. “veterans” are a second behind and they have 200. Whoever crosses the line first..wins this thing! Slow-motion run time. It’s the ‘Baywatch’ flashback! MJ and Julie carry the sticks! MJ crosses first! The “rookies” win the first challenge. Julie is pissed! Jodi is excited! Adam is disappointed!

TJ comes in to give Alton the gift card! Fantastic! He then tells the “veterans” to decide which teammate goes against Adam in the Gauntlet.

Mark says go with the vote thing where they put a name on a piece of paper and draw it from a hate to see who has the most votes. Derrick says that is B.S.! He wants everyone to say what they have to say to their faces! Aneesa says this challenge was a team effort and not individual. So she thinks it would be better the other way. Derrick says “that is bulls**t and says f**k that and f**k you too.” Well then. Brad says Derrick’s aggressiveness will cause tension within the team. They decide to go with the secret ballot. And what a shock, Derrick is voted into the gauntlet.

YES! It’s “spin the wheel, make the deal”! TJ spins the wheel and it lands on ‘Name That Coconut’! That will be this gauntlet. TJ will explain later. Adam says he is not afraid of Derrick. He says Derrick starts too much crap in the team for no reason. Exactly! Derrick says he will give it his all. It’s time for a war!

Gauntlet time! Adam and Derrick get ready. The game is 32 trivia questions about the 32 castmates. When a question is asked, they have to try and find the answer on a coconut and bring that coconut back. Oh..a twist. There is a “battle zone” where the coconuts are. Meaning..you can knock the crap out of the other person if they find the right coconut before you do. You can take it and run like you stole something, which you did! Whoever gets 5 questions right..wins! Loser goes home! Adam says trivia is not his thing, but when it comes to violence..he will win every time!

Question #1: On his first challenge, he was the first cast member to be sent home. On his second challenge, he was the second cast member to be sent home.

Answer #1: Ace (Easy!)

Adam and Derrick would rather wrestle than find the correct coconut! Cameran says it is hard to watch as they are tearing each other apart. Now we get various shots of castmates as they look horrified! Well..I didn’t see any blood yet!

Commercial time!

We are back and the wrestling continues! Derrick grabs the first coconut and runs for the hills! He gets the first one. Cara says that it would benefit the “rookies” more if Adam is sent home, since he is the brains!

Question #2: This cast member was the final replacement in Tahiti.

Derrick has a coconut and Adam rips his shirt to try and stop him, but it doesn’t help. Too bad Derrick had the wrong coconut! HA! He said it was Jillian, but it’s not. I have no idea, by the way. Adam searches for the right coconut and finds it.

Answer #2: Jeremy

Adam wins that won, so it’s 1-to-1! If you get a wrong answer, it’s a free shot for the other player.

Timmy says he wants Adam to win, since that’s his friend and all.

Question #3: Who won the “Smell This” Inferno in the first season of the Inferno.

Adam says Derrick is going nuts as Derricks yanks out the coconut from Adam’s hands. Derrick races back. But he is wrong again! He said Aneesa, but no! Adam finds the right one!

Answer #3: Our friend, Katie

Adam leads 2 to 1!

Question #4: During their season, which cast member had a relationship with a member of the casting department.

Answer #4: David (Yay for Me!)

Derrick has the coconut first again and this time he is right! All tied up!

Question #5: Which original male cast member never made it to Argentina on Road Rules 13.

Adam has the first coconut. But he is wrong. It’s not Ibis. Derrick thinks he has the right one and he should since he was on that show.

Answer #5: Danny

3 to 2! Derrick leads!

Question #6: Who was sent home for being afraid to repel down a mountain.

Adam has the first coconut and it’s the correct one!

Answer #6: Jisela

3 to 3!

Question #7: Which cast member was accused of trying to kill another cast member during a challenge.

Answer #7: Julie (Booyah!)

Adam has a coconut and it’s wrong! Dummy! Derrick has the right one! Derrick is up! One more and he becomes the new captain.

Question #8: Whose butt sent them home on Road Rules 13.

They fight for a coconut and Derrick has it as he flips out of the “battle zone”. It’s the correct one!

Answer #8: Ibis

That means Adam is gone! Derrick is the new captain of the “veteran boys”!

Derrick says he is on top and he can be a jerk now. He’s all by himself! Adam declares that he wasn’t the first one gone. Jo was first! Timmy says Adam going home is bad for the team. He says Derrick has a lot to prove now as a captain. Adam doesn’t regret being captain at first without knowing the rules. He would do it again! Right on. They say their goodbyes.

Derrick moves into his suite. He says he is the best and he is AWESOME! David doesn’t seem happy. He says Derrick’s ego will hurt the team for the rest of the game!

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
