THE 199 GIVES YOU OTHER STUFF….

LIKE SCREEN SHOTS FROM THE X-3 TRAILER…

THEY DO IN FACT BREAK THE INTERNET INTO SOME LOST FRACTION…

WELCOME ALL TO:

Welcome to another edition of Marvel News & Views – this week I give you some screenshots of X-3 along with some hot news about Warren Ellis and Marvel as a company. In my most graphically amazing column yet, I apologize for the seemingly shorter nature of the column, but there wasn’t a hella-lotta news. Thusly, you get pretty pictures to enjoy.

What’s goin on!

Okay, so you didn’t know?

YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLLLED SOMEBODDYYYYYYY….

The X-3 Trailer is live on Apple.Com and here are some notes from Marvel News & Views that you should just ignore:

* – Angel looks awesome
* – Anna Paquin, holding up nicely.
* – Beast looks pretty good too!
* – Famke Jansen blowing up doors… kinda hot.
* – Halle Berry, way to whine and bitch… this is your movie.
* – Ian McKellen, not holding up as nicely as Paquin.
* – This movie.. is still.. worrying me.

…AND THE GUNSLINGER WAITS FOR AWHILE

“King is directly involved in the creative aspects of this project, supervising all editorial and visual content,” reports Diamond. “Robin Furth, author of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower: A Concordance, is outlining the Dark Tower comic book series, providing scene-by-scene plotting, and maintaining the continuity and consistency of each story arc.”

So yeah – everybody that worried about whether Marvel was going to take King’s book and run with it can now sit back and rest easy. This honestly sounds like they are letting King be as hands on as he wants to be. If you’ve ever read any of SK’s story intros, he has a love of comics and seemingly of Marvel.

So yes, the story is going to come out next year, but it keeps showing up in my news column, so the hype machine runs strong within it.

…Without the weekly set of interviews?

Yeah, that’s right.. more interviews for you to read. This first one comes from Peter Milligan about his upcoming Dead Girl project, bringing him back to the weird world of the X-Statix characters.

Is this book in real Marvel continuity? Is Dead Girl one of the 198? Does it really matter? Read the interview! You will learn that no.. it really doesn’t.. this story takes place within the realms of limbo and such – dead people are dead. Although there is a picture in there with Deadgirl hanging around with Gwen Stacy and.. err… umm… Carol Danvers?

Go look, tell me who it is.. I have no idea.
(EDIT: Thanks to Jon Carey informing me what everyone else probably already knew… it’s Mockingbird.)

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD VARIANT!

In the continued running of variant spidey-outfits to lead up to the end of ‘THE OTHER’ – here’s the next one….. CAPTAIN UNIVERSE SPIDEY! (EDIT: Thank you Colin Pigeau for taking note that this is not, in fact Spidey-Armor.)

Yay! I love these variants…

A HATTON EDITORIAL

First – let me quote Newsarama’s Joe Friday column to set us up here.

JQ- Illuminati, Planet Hulk, House of M, all these things are parts of the same story.

I have an ear to the comic grindstone. You can’t exist as a columnist and con-goer without getting one. You meet artists, you hang at the bar with writers, you buy drinks for people you respect. In time you get to have relationships with some of these people. I’m not naming names.

From everything I’ve heard about the way the Marvel world works is that they, for the longest time, seemed to schedule up fairly quickly. This, of course, means that the idea that House of M, Planet Hulk, and the Illuminati were all seemingly concieved in fairly quick succession. That doesn’t mean that these stories aren’t connected, nor does it mean that these stories aren’t going to lead to something huge within five years, as has been predicted.

What I think this means is Marvel is getting their shit together.

Identity Crisis was incredible. Infinite Crisis is also showing that there is a continuity to the DCU can put together a huge event, and pull it off. The age of the yearly crossover doesn’t have to be dead, but it does have to be more formulated. We are in a world where some of the best comic book writing is forming in front of us. Argue with me or not, the world is no longer about flashy artistry that all looks like Jim Lee. We are in an era where people are trying to pay attention to the creation of stories and new legacies in characters.

Marvel has finally realized this, and let’s hope that all of these stories, whether they are awesome or the suckier part of a bigger suck puzzle – that the end result is comics trying new things.

Thank you.

Now.. onto comic reviews:

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDEY – Okay umm… wow.. errr.. I know that I have a lot to say about this.. so I went and reviewed it. Go read that.

MARVEL ZOMBIES #1 – I’d like to believe that the name of this book is completely ironic given all of those street-cred indy readers refer to us as such.. but was this book fun? Yes! Was this book creepy.. Kinda! It was a great idea if you like kitsch zombie stuff.

NEW EXCALIBUR #2 – Issue #2 of Claremont’s new baby, and I walked away feeling dirty. Not dirty in the ‘this sucks’ kind of way, but in the actual way one feels dirty as you sit there and take your children and dress them in sexy clothes. It’s not a bad book… although Claremont’s convolution is starting to show, but it will, in fact, make you feel dirty.

POWERS #15 – I realized something while reading this week’s issue of Powers. There is an undercurrent running through this book that makes me seemingly believe that there is a lot going on behind the scenes. It is starting to make me think that somehow, when this book has ended, you will be able to go read Who Killed Retrogirl? and read it with new eyes due to the revelations brought at the end. The scope of Powers is starting to amaze me.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #87 – Bendis is two for two this week, as he once again explores the relationship with Peter and MJ, all the while Kitty Pryde is here and the triangle begins. ..oh.. and Silver Sable is around..

ULTIMATES 2 #9 – Traitor Revealed. Bedroom antics with Black Widow. Loki has arrived. Thor is… a God? SO MUCH FUN! GHAMEGMAGRRRRRRFLAGGBBBtt *thunk* … yeah.. i’m a marvel zombie.. deal with it.

TO BE READ STILL:
Colossus: Bloodline
X-Men: Unlimited

I’ll get around to it.

Okay – that’s it for this week… hope you all are getting ready for Christmas. I like comics. Oh, and cash.

So.. Magneto.. what do you think?
